House Auxerre (89)

Nestled between Vézelay and Chablis, in the heart of the Saussois cliffs, on the edge of the Yonne valley, this property offers an exceptional setting. Two independent buildings, elegantly renovated, stand harmoniously on one hectare of enclosed land, decorated with fruit trees and a truffle field, while a heated infinity pool completes this exceptional place. The first building, a former winegrower's house dating from 1647, with an area of 190 m2, subtly combines old-world charm and contemporary aesthetics. Upon entering, a comfortable reception room announces the warm atmosphere that reigns throughout the residence. The open kitchen, equipped with stoves, embodies conviviality, while the dining room is distinguished by its cherry cathedral ceiling. Upstairs, an autumn lounge, ideal for reading, is decorated with an oak fireplace, providing an intimate and comforting space. The sleeping area consists of three bedrooms and a large attic ready to be fitted out according to the occupants' preferences. By taking the local stone staircase, decorated with an iron railing typical of the region, you access the second building. This renovated barn of 150 m2, spread over two levels, offers four bright bedrooms, thanks to workshop-style bay windows. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, two upstairs, one of which has a cathedral ceiling. Each room has a bathroom in Burgundy stone, with a loft bathtub or walk-in shower, as well as dressing rooms and consoles designed in Morvan wood. The property offers parking accessible from the rear, a vaulted cellar and an outbuilding overlooking the street. House Sens (89)

A renovated 18th-century house with a walled garden, nestled in the historical town of Sens, Burgundy. The dwelling was built at the end of the 18th century. The bailiff of Sens ordered construction of the edifice to house his family. Later, in around 1850, the building became the head administrative office for the local area. The current owners, members of a local family, have renovated the house entirely. The property turns its back on the small street on which it stands. One of its tall elevations with a cornice faces the road. This elevation is punctuated with brickwork, which forms the window surrounds and a stringcourse. This brickwork adds colour to the plain rendered wall. An elegant stone doorway with a segmental arch surrounds the entrance gate. The facade faces the garden. Its stringcourses and the surrounds around its evenly spaced windows are also made of brick. A tall wooden double gate leads into a covered entrance area. A huge glass wall forms the far end of this covered space and offers a delightful view of the garden and the majestic trees that dot it. A few steps lead up to French windows that form an entrance. This flight of steps is aligned with the edifice’s sandstone base course. The dwelling offers a floor area of around 300m². It has a basement, a ground floor, a first floor and a second floor in the roof space. Two dormers with brickwork window surrounds and triangular pediments stand out on the tiled roof and bring natural light into the second floor. The house is in excellent condition. A tasteful modern touch has been added to its 18th-century decor.

House Noyers (89)

In a village in Yonne, in Burgundy, an authentic 18th and 19th-century farmhouse restored into a bed and breakfast. The property is accessed through a gate that opens on to the main road that crosses through the village. Several buildings with stone facades are arranged around the courtyard: a farmhouse, a pigsty, stables, and a barn dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Following significant renovation work, these structures have been transformed to house the hotel and private areas of the guesthouse. From the courtyard, the bell tower of the centuries-old church - whose flamboyant ogival portal is worth a visit - is so close, it appears to be a part of the property.

House with pool Auxerre (89)

A Napoleonic mansion in tree-dotted grounds nestled in a medieval winegrowing town in Burgundy, two hours from Paris. In 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte returned from his exile on the island of Elba, travelling up to Paris. He stopped off in Burgundy from 17 to 19 March. There he met up with Marshal Ney. His troops bivouacked on the outskirts of this town and on the site of this property. Almost half a century later, in 1854, during the Second French Empire, a family of Parisian magistrates built a town mansion here in a Napoleon III style. This mansion was transformed in 1980 and became a 25-room hotel. Today, each of the 25 hotel rooms here bears the name of a marshal who served under Napoleon I. The old dwelling is made of dressed stone and stands on a large avenue. Its slate mansard roof is punctuated with arched dormers and bull’s-eye windows. The property’s original metal railings still enclose it. Pillars of dressed stone are evenly spaced out along these railings, which stand on a low stone wall. The pedestrian entrance is a metal gate framed between two pillars of dressed stone, each crowned with a cast-iron vase. Beyond this gate, a footpath in the middle of a gravel court leads up to a small flight of stone steps adorned with a pair of Medici vases. Vehicles can enter the property via two other original entrances, which are broader. They are located on both sides of the pedestrian entrance and are framed between brick and stone pillars. A large two-floor caretaker’s house stands beside the outdoor entrance area. Nearby, around 30 cars can be parked in a car park on the property. The mansion’s rear elevation faces the property’s vast enclosed grounds dotted with majestic age-old trees and clusters of flowering plants. There are a few terraces on the grounds and an authentic stone table with old stone benches. This beautiful outdoor space includes a heated swimming pool too. This pool is 10 metres long and 5 metres wide. It is heated with mains gas. Lastly, there is an old greenhouse on the grounds. It is made of wrought iron and needs to be restored.

Mill 19

Mill Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne (89)

A 16th and 17th century former mill, surrounded by 6 hectares of meadows, in the Puisaye region, 2 hours from Paris. A double entrance gate opens onto a large lawned area dotted with some ten tall trees, and a gravel parking area. The complex comprises several adjoining buildings facing the main structure, the mill. The mill faces north-south, while the outbuildings face south and west. A pedestrian entrance provides access to the premises, protected by a canopy of local tiles. The mill stands in the middle of the reach. The wheel with a diameter of around 4m abuts the building. A small wooden bridge crosses the river. There is a spring close to the mill, from which blue water gushes into the headrace. The residence overlooks a number of authentic features, including a well built of local Puisaye brick, which can still be used and is between 3 and 6 metres deep. The presence of alluvial groundwater, which is always cool, means that a water-to-water heat pump could be installed. A number of outbuildings, each topped with an old country-style roof, complete the complex: a barn, a traditional oven, an old sheepfold and a large workshop for drying wood. Finally, at the back of the house, there is a vast hangar hidden behind a hedge. A dedicated gate provides access to this hangar for the estate's farm vehicles and also links via the ford over the millstream to the meadows.
