CastleSable-sur-sarthe (72)

A mansion with outbuildings and equestrian facilities on 19 hectares of land in the southern part of the Mayenne area, near to Sablé-sur-Sarthe. The curving drive leads off a country road past parking spaces and up to the mansion, to the south of which there are two large outbuildings, the first of which has been fully converted. The second boasts a vast space with a cathedral ceiling. Hidden from the mansion behind these buildings is an old barn that can be converted as well as equestrian buildings and facilities made up of a round pen next to a stable, saddlery, manege and second stable, all of which can be reached from a second entrance.
The mansion probably dates from the 16th century. The main building is L-shaped and boasts two towers. A renovation in the 19th century focused on the windows and an extension on the southern gable. It is made of rubble stone covered in traditional limewash rendering. The window frames, cornices and dormer windows are made of tuffeau stone. The mansion has three storeys, one of which is an attic level, topped by a hipped slate roof. The two towers are topped with pepper-pot turrets.
The building is surrounded by tree-filled grounds and notably an imposing and archetypal horse chestnut tree. Beyond the grounds, there are vast meadows for the horses. To the east, a lawned drive runs past mirabelle plum trees and leads to a small lake surrounded by a wood.
