In the south of the Cotentin, a 19th century castle and its outbuildings surrounded by a 6 hectare park.
The property is located near a village of 200 inhabitants and 4 km from a market town with all services and amenities. Paris can be reached in 3 hours 20 minutes by car and in 3 hours by train from Vire station, 35 km away. The Mont-Saint-Michel with its bay and beaches is 40 km away.
From the main road, through a gate, a driveway bordered by two low walls leads to the castle. On one side, it is lined with trees of different species, oaks, beeches, chestnut trees, on the other by a hedge of white roses. In the grassed park, the view opens onto the caretaker's house, the castle and its outbuildings. The main building is impressive, and two smaller buildings are nearby. An orangery completes the picture. The castle is a perfect example of 19th century architecture, typified by symmetry and balance: its four-sided slate roof is punctuated by four chimneys.
The castleIt is built on three levels of rendered coursed granite masonry. The foundations are made of exposed stone. The entrance door is topped by a window on the first floor and a pediment on the second floor with an oeuil de boeuf window, reminiscent of 18th century architecture. Two dormer windows on either side of the pediment add to the symmetry. The main entrance facade faces south. On the first floor, the east and west facades feature each two small arched windows.
Ground floor
The entrance hall is paved with white octagonal stones and black square cabochons; the walls are dressed stone. On one side, a double door leads to the living room. Opposite, an identical double door opens into the study. The following door leads into the second part of the hallway. Double doors give access on one side to the dining room and on the other to the kitchen. At the back of the latter, a spiral staircase with a wrought iron banister and oak steps leads up to the first floor. At the end of the hallway, a double door opens northwards onto the park and on the side a door provides access to the cellar. On the ground floor, large windows let the natural light pour into each room. The ceiling of the living room is decorated with stucco reliefs and patina woodwork in shades of yellow and white. The fireplace mantel is white marble topped with an ornamental mirror. Two double doors lead into the dining room. The fireplace is black marble, topped with a carved wooden overmantel, and the parquet floor features a herringbone pattern like that of the living room. The walls are covered with stretched fabric with low wood panelling underneath. A double door in the hall leads to the kitchen with an adjoining pantry. Access to the kitchen from the outside is provided by a double stone staircase. The kitchen is fully equipped, the furniture is framed by two pillars supporting a granite lintel. The walls are clad in wood and the worktop is light-coloured marble. The floor is paved with large beige flagstones. In the study, the walls are covered with wood panelling emphasising the straight, sober mouldings. The floor is oak parquet. The black marble mantelpiece of the fireplace is topped with a full height mirror.
First floor
On the first floor, a large landing leads to four bedrooms with bathrooms and toilets and a fifth smaller bedroom. Each room has a black marble fireplace. The floors are straight or herringbone oak parquet. The attic on the second floor is currently used as such.
Basement
The cellar is partly clay and partly paved. Its ceiling is lined with insulating material. It houses a new oil-fired boiler. The caretaker's houseThis is built of coursed rubble masonry. The slate gable roof features a central dormer window. The facade has a white entrance door on …
