Castle Redon (35)

EXCLUSIVE - 19TH CENTURY MASTERPIECE - EXTRAORDINARY 19TH CENTURY CASTLE WITH FANTASTIC NEO-RENAISSANCE GRANITE ARCHITECTURE - 23 HECTARES - OFFERED FOR SALE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ITS HISTORY - BETWEEN RENNE AND VANNES, MORBIHAN, BRITTANY - OPTION ON A PRIVATE HARAS RENTED In a sumptuous romantic park offering an unobstructed view facing south over the beautiful countryside of Morbihan, this spectacular castle completed in 1898, one of the masterpieces of the end of the 19th century in Brittany, stands on a medieval site of which remains dry moats and three original 16th century pavilions. Offered for sale for the first time in its long history, it is in a remarkable state of authenticity. The particularly rich architecture inspired by the Renaissance, is exceptional by the quality of the implementation all in large granite equipment of different colors and textures, it is clearly one of the most beautiful castles of this period in Brittany , among the best built. It has a rectangular plan with a central body flanked by two projecting corner pavilions, one of which houses the superb palatial chapel on two levels. A difference in levels between the facades produces an even more monumental effect, the North-East facade on the park side has direct access to the ground floor via a large cast iron canopy; the south-east façade stands on a monumental basement which houses a large hall in the basement and the service areas. The facades present a very rich architectural repertoire of bosses and shear walls, petrifications, powerful chainings, cartridges, cut leathers, shells, moldings, projecting keystones, skylights, pediments, very powerful chimney stacks. All in a symphony of granites with sumptuous play of colors, gray, ocher, and black, and play of texture, rustic bosses, more or less smooth, more or less bush-hammered surfaces. Scholarly citations punctuate the facades by breaking the symmetry, on one side two large stained glass windows, one rose window, the other semicircular bordered with statues in the round of Saint Louis and his wife Marguerite de Provence; on the other side, a very clever watchtower. The entrance hall in a neo-Renaissance style is particularly spectacular, adorned with columns, the grand oak staircase with balusters adorned with protomes of lions, decorated with stenciled painted murals, low paneling, cement tile floors, ceilings of stuccoes. On the right, a smoking room decorated with wall display cases, low paneling, wall decorations of printed fabrics. A large central corridor crosses the whole house, cement tile floor, low panelling, wall stencils, ceilings with beams and joists. Superb suite of south-facing lounges, open view. Central living room decorated with beautiful woodwork, three beautiful double doors, pair of oils on canvas around 1700 representing bacchus and Venus embedded in the woodwork, herringbone floor, south-facing balcony. Large living room, richly sculpted woodwork in the Louis XIV style, stucco ceiling in the style of the 18th century, marble fireplace in the Louis XV style. Small Louis XVI style lounge decorated with woodwork, Louis XVI style marble fireplace, facing south-east, herringbone floor. To the North-East, with independent access, a sumptuous palatial chapel on two levels with a gallery. Adorned with two splendid Art Nouveau stained glass windows, one depicting the Virgin, populated by angels and natural lilies, the other in a rose window depicting Jesus and the four evangelists in a sky also populated by angels. A 17th century wooden altarpiece, richly carved with four twisted columns under a large pediment, three oils on canvas embedded in the altarpiece, an Annunciation, a saint in prayer, and possibly the vows of Louis XIII. To the north, an office, a hunting room decorated with cupboards, in its own juice, marble fireplace. A linen room, adorned with large cupboards. A kitchen to the West, cupboards, cement tiles. Small south-facing dining room, wooden floor, Louis XIV style red marble fireplace, low panelling. Hoist for wood. Rise flat.
