Farm house Gournay-en-Bray (76)

  • Surface 175 m2
  • Rooms 13
  • Bedrooms 8
  • Land 2 ha

An old farm, comprising three houses, vast outbuildings and 2 ha of land, 130 km from Paris.
Although Paris is 130 km away, Beauvais and its airport, with flights to international destinations, are but 40 km away.
Three towns are nearby: Forges-les-Eaux, 10 km away, much-appreciated by tourists for its thalassotherapy centre and its casino. Gournay, 15 km away, with its SNCF train station which has two return journeys to the French capital per day and, then, Buchy, 25 km away, with its famous markets and their local produce.
This attractive region in the French department of Seine-Maritime and the Bray Country is composed of undulating verdant landscapes. Meadows and forests constitute the area surrounding the property, set in the midst of a little village, with 200 inhabitants. Coincidence perhaps, but the origin of the property’s name evokes fallow and farmland.
This farm, entirely delimited by its outbuildings, comes into view around a bend on the outskirts of the village. A no-through road leads into a large, square courtyard, surrounded on all four sides by the farm buildings and the houses; one side also features an opening, providing access to the meadow.
Separated by the courtyard, the houses are quite a way from one another.
The main houseThis long, traditional farmhouse spans three levels. Its rear facade features flint walls, whilst the front has a white-painted brick facade. Its hip roof is covered with local tiles. Skylights let in light. The front facade, with hip roof dormers, also features wooden-framed windows, glazed with medium-sized panes, on the first two levels. Curved with brick relieving arches, each window surround is adorned with a central coat-of-arms, made of local stone.
Traditional, curved, wooden shutters, painted blue with diagonal ties, protect all the windows.
On one side and at the back of the house, two lean-tos have been redesigned for use as a machine room and a kitchen.
The main facade is extended by a “charretterie” where carts were once kept, now used as a conservatory or carport.
Ground floor
A large living room is enhanced with a brick fireplace, featuring a wooden mantel, and exposed ceiling joists. A shower room and a separate toilet are near to the open-plan kitchen-bar. A lounge and a room, with a mezzanine as well as direct access to the conservatory, constitute this section of the house. The floors are covered with square sandstone tiles.
First floor
The landing provides access to three bedrooms and two shower rooms, the latter requiring attention, as well as the stairway that goes up to the attic space.
Attic
A landing opens into a vast room, awaiting completion, as well as a bedroom. The roofing framework is exposed and daylight floods in through the skylights and dormers. The second houseThis former stable differs little from the main house apart its main facade, rendered with ochre-coloured cement, and its roof, covered with slate instead of local tiles. All the windows have similar wooden frames and double-glazing
The building adjoins a vast farm shed, one of the farm’s outbuildings.
A small garden facing the fields is much appreciated for taking advantage of the sun during clement weather.
Ground floor
A door opening directly into the kitchen, enhanced with a brick fireplace, also leads to two rooms, one of which is large, a shower room and a toilet. The floors are either covered with parquet flooring or tiles.
First floor
Three small bedrooms, a shower room and a toilet take up the section intended for accommodation. The studio flatAt the end of the outbuilding is a room converted into a bedroom, without a bathroom. This shortcoming could easily …
