A lovely, large, Art Deco style villa in the midst of Vichy, on the edge of Allier Lake.
Near to the town centre and the town’s thermal spa centres, in a quiet setting with a view over the lake and its nautical activities, facing both the horseracing and the golf courses. This original villa stands in Vichy, a rapidly developing town, renowned the world over for its spas and a candidate for classification as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
This Art Deco style villa, spanning approx. 460 m², was meticulously and elegantly constructed in the late 1930’s on a plot of land extending over approx. 1,120 m². In a residential sector near to the town centre, it has a panoramic view over Allier Lake, a small garden in front of the facade and a large courtyard at the back. Large picture windows in the facade open on to two ground floor terraces and on to an upstairs balcony.
The villaThis house spans two levels under attic space. Wide windows and French windows provide views over Allier Lake from terraces and a balcony, whilst letting in copious amounts of daylight. Tree-lined alleyways and flower-filled parterres surround the house.
Ground floor
A porch in the middle of the facade leads to an entrance lobby set between two successive glazed doors, with decorative Art Deco style ironwork. A vast vestibule, forming a patio, features a high coffered ceiling. The floor is covered with marble and the walls are adorned with bas-reliefs. A wide, exceptionally elegant stairway, with wrought iron railings and a copper handrail, goes upstairs. Decorative, Art Deco style wrought iron double doors, on one side of the vestibule, open into a large lounge-dining room, spanning approx. 55 m², decorated with moulding and bas-reliefs, a fireplace and sealed, herringbone pattern parquet flooring. Double French windows open on to a west-facing terrace, spanning approx. 16 m², which dominates the garden and looks out over the lake. Another large window increases the luminosity of the large lounge which is air-conditioned. This reception room still has all of its late 1930’s decorative features. The vestibule also provides access to a lounge-library, spanning approx. 23 m² and featuring a Louis XV style marble fireplace. This room opens on to another large terrace, spanning approx. 23 m² and looking out over the parterres at the entrance.
Next to it is a study, the window of which opens on to the back garden courtyard. The decor painted on the walls represents a map of the Far East, illustrated using the arts, fauna, flora as well as the miscellaneous Asian countries and created by painter, Max-Moreau.
The elegant marble stairway, going upstairs, provides access to a long gallery, looking down on to the vestibule and illuminated by bronze wall-lights. This level is taken up by three large, air-conditioned bedrooms, illuminated via large windows, one of which opens on to a balcony. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and wardrobe. A fourth bedroom is partially laid out under the rafters. A spacious games room (table tennis and billiard tables), with exposed beams, spans a floor surface area of approx. 32 m². It is illuminated via large roof dormers. A space under the rafters, spanning approx. 80 m², provides further conversion potential.
The basement, spanning approx. 265 m², comprises a large hall, two staff bedrooms, a shower, a toilet, a laundry room, a boiler room housing a mains gas-fired Weismann boiler, a vaulted wine cellar, a shower, a toilet, a 5-car garage and a conservatory.
In addition to the flower beds in front of the main facade, a vast, wooded, flower-filled courtyard forms the rear of the property. The unoccupied land around the house spans close to 900 m². The plot can be accessed via car and pedestrian entrances, off each of the three roads flanking the …
