The revival of an Art Deco style villa overlooking Cannes Bay.
In the midst of the very highly sought-after district of Californie, with its wealth of cultural heritage, overlooking Cannes Bay, bordered to the west by the Estérel hills, this elegant house was built like a belvedere in 1927 at the height of the Art Deco era. Said house stands in a quiet, wooded setting, whilst being near to the town and Boulevard-de-la-Croisette, just a 10-minute walk away.
This villa, with Cannes Bay and the Estérel mountains as a backdrop, was built on the heights, not far from the town centre. Facing south-west, it has a view over the sea and is bathed in sunshine all day long. Two entrances give access to this property from the street. One opens into the garden on a level higher than the house, the other leads to a paved driveway leading to the property, the east facade of which is the first to be seen. The house is bordered by a garden, planted with Mediterranean species, laid out on the higher ground behind the house. A flight of steps leads to said garden as well as to a swimming pool. A small garden is laid out on its east side, with a mosaic stone terrace used as an outdoor eating area. The garden continues in tiers below the house, with a first area laid to lawn. This is followed by a sloping ornamental garden. An original flight of stone steps, with balusters, leads directly down to the street.
The villaRedesigned and restored, the building has undergone renovation works carried out in accordance with good trade practices, with the preservation of the original facade features and special attention given to the layout as well as the materials used. It comprises a garden level, a ground floor and two upper floors. The facade is of a height that is ideal for enhancing all of its features such as openings framed with prominent moulding and curved balconies, with wrought iron railings or stone balustrades, supported by impressive corbels. A graphic-pattern frieze on the facade consolidates its modernist identity and reinforces the authenticity exuding from it. The front facade, facing the sea, comprises four openings with cut-off corners, three large openings with basket-handle arches and four straight openings. The rear facade features a large, wrought iron atrium window.
A curved entrance porch on the east facade houses the wrought iron and glass entrance door.
Ground floor
Designed to communicate with the outside, the ground floor opens into an entrance hall, filled with light courtesy of a large, original leaded-glass window which, overlooking the courtyard and garden side, forms a central feature with the wrought iron stairway in the entrance hall. Paved with mosaic flooring, it gives access to the main rooms laid out on the villa’s facade. A large, open-plan kitchen opens into a large lounge and a dining room. All three are laid with old, herringbone pattern, oak wood parquet flooring. On the far west side of the entrance hall is a lift as well as a second stairway going to all the floors. All the rooms open on to a balcony-terrace, its curves favouring the view over the bay.
First floor
The central stairway, just like the lateral stairway and the lift, goes up to a landing, giving access to three bedrooms. Each one has its own marble bathroom and toilet. They open on to a balcony overlooking the sea. An additional room on the landing is ideal as a small pantry or utility room. Floors are laid throughout with mosaic marble tiles or herringbone pattern, oak wood parquet flooring. Ceilings are decoratively moulded with geometric patterns.
Second floor
This level has another two bedrooms, including the main bedroom, with an adjoining dressing room and its large marble bathroom, comprising a walk-in shower, a bath and access to a sun terrace. An additional room on the landing is …
