An 1870, Mansard-style house in the Brie-Française region.
The town comes into view around a loop in the river Yerres on the edge of Sénart forest. Erosion and hydrography have fashioned the limestone and clay subsoils into a plateau relief, hollowed by two valleys sloping towards the river Seine. Nowadays, the town, 21 km to the south-east of Paris, has 25,000 inhabitants. A holiday resort since the 19th century and still predominantly residential, its urban scenery has kept its heritage of rich houses. A theatre and museums give the town a busy cultural life. Bordered to the south by the N6 and crossed by the D33, D54 and D94 roads, the town is also on the RER train line D.
This house, dating from 1870 is set in a quiet street. It stands out by virtue of the nobility and majesty of its Mansard style. The hipped-end, slate roof, with its break, features pediment roof dormers. The facades, partially featuring millstone grit, are enhanced with white stone quoins as well as door and window surrounds. The precision of the lines that characterise the Mansard style is achieved through the alignment of the double windows and their slatted, wooden shutters. The entrance gates open, on the north side, on to a paved courtyard leading to a porch. The south facade is enhanced with two terraces and a slate canopy. The house looks down on to an enclosed, rectangular garden which, spanning approx. 2,300 m², slopes slightly. This landscape garden is dominated by a majestic ash tree. A small outhouse, included on the land registry, stands at the end of the garden.
The houseConstructed in 1870, it stands out courtesy of the classical harmony of its Mansard-style architecture. The nobility of the materials used, stone, slate, millstone grit and wood, ensures the lasting quality of the house. Built over a full basement, it spans a ground floor and two upper levels.
