A 19th century, large, luxurious home in a 5,000 m² garden with the sea on the horizon on Morlaix Bay.
This property stands but 5 minutes from Morlaix, with its sixth form colleges and large infrastructures. This old pirate town was established in the 12th century in the midst of land belonging to the old province of Léon and the bay of the same name. The river Morlaix is a coastal river, at the end of which is the bridge-town of Morlaix, separating the Léon and Trégor regions. Carantec, the port of Roscoff, with its ferries to England and Ireland, and Locquirec can all be reached in less than 30 minutes. TGV train links to Paris take 3 hours. Brest airport, with its many flight, is 35 minutes away.
The coastal roads runs alongside the river from Morlaix to the mouth of the bay and leads to this property’s entrance, flanked by stone pillars. A driveway winds upwards, bordering the stone outbuilding and leading to the front of the house, built in a dominant position. The latter is surrounded by a garden, partially delimited by a wall, adjoined by a greenhouse. The house dominates the river, neighbouring properties are at a distance.
The houseThis house, standing in the midst of its garden, is composed of a central, rectangular building, flanked by a wing. It spans three levels, with a gable slate roof covering the main building and a 3-sloped roof covering the wing. These roofs feature roof dormers and skylights. Constructed from quarry stone blocks, the walls are covered with a light-coloured rendering. Large windows let in copious amounts of light.
Ground floor
A door in the courtyard opens into a vestibule which provides access to a lounge, a shower room, with a toilet, and a wooden stairway, going to the various levels of the house. The lounge, facing the entrance door, is a vast room, widely illuminated via three French windows that open on to a terrace, paved with shale tiles. The floor is laid with contemporary stone tiles. The lintels of an engaged fireplace, made of granite, are supported on sculpted, dressed stone jambs. An opening at the other end gives access to a good-sized kitchen. The latter, featuring windows and French windows facing one another, opens on to the terrace and the courtyard.
First floor
The wooden stairway goes up to a landing providing access, on one side, to two bedrooms and a bathroom. On the other side are a study and an anteroom communicating with a large room, currently in use as an artist’s studio. This level is illuminated by large windows overlooking the river.
Second floor
The landing provides access to two bedrooms, a toilet, and a room used for attic purposes.
Basement
The house’s main stairway also goes down to the cellar, one section of which has a packed mud floor. The other, tiled section is used as a boiler room and has a door leading outside. The outbuildingStanding on the heights in the courtyard, this outbuilding is constructed from quarry stone blocks and topped with a gable, slate roof. It spans a surface area of approx. 45 m². It is used as storage space and a garage. The greenhouseThe greenhouse, adjoining a stone wall, stands facing the main house. It is used for growing exotic plants that need heat, for storing frost-sensitive plants and for growing seedlings. The gardenSurrounding the house, the garden is largely made up of vast grassy areas, coloured with numerous shrubs and hydrangea bushes. It is partially delimited by stone walls and partially by shrub hedges and tall trees. A large terrace, running alongside the facade, looks out over the bay.
