They were peasant builders who created a number of hamlets in the region and the the spirit and knowledge of this spontaneous architecture has been preserved. This property has an unusual history, starting with the epoch when houses were built directly on stone, in order to survey the valley and thus prevent invasion. History has certainly left its mark in this place … When one mounts the deep, straight valley, one glimpses in the south, an uniquely formed peak with an ancient Gallic fortress, called an Oppidum by the Latin writers. The hill has the look of a truncated cone where the vertical escarpments create fortified walls. This hamlet rises on the western flank of the peak, with its fifteen or so rural dwellings. If the summit of the plateau and the interior of the Gallic fortifications contain only a few Gallic-Roman remains, in contrast the hillside with the hamlet is littered with traces of this era. The ground is covered with fragments of bricks, amphora jars and pottery.~~It is in this place that we discover this property of more than 6 hectares, which dominates the other dwellings.
