A middle-class, family home, dating from the 1930’s, in Bagneux’s historic town centre, steeped in its village atmosphere.
Set back off the street, this impressive 340 m² house stands in the midst of its 1,650 m² garden. A large gateway opens on to a flower-lined driveway, leading straight to the house’s entrance, topped with a magnificent wooden awning. This building, constructed in the 1930’s, is accessed via a harmonious central flight of steps. The millstone grit facade features numerous double openings. The latter are protected by ironwork which was recently redone, just like the completely new roof. With its half-timbering and its steeply-sloping roof, the building evokes the Anglo-Norman style.
Inside, the ground floor comprises a double lounge, a dining room, a vast kitchen and a laundry room. The upper floors include five bedrooms, several bathrooms and a games room. The basement is taken up by several storage areas, a study and a boiler room.
Three large terraces look out over the garden, planted with flowers and various species of trees, including a majestic conifer. The various outside areas form a sort of cocoon around the house. Several cars could be parked out of sight, notably by the rear courtyard.
The houseThis house was built in the 1930’s on a farm estate and originally belonged to a market gardener. The facade is constructed from millstone grit, which provides a light, natural insulation, much sought-after at the time. The building has since been completely renovated and has no need of any works.
Ground floor
The house is entered via a flight of Burgundy stone steps, topped with an elegant wooden awning. This external entrance provides access to a wide door, with intricately wrought ironwork. Once over the threshold, visitors are enthralled by the detail in the original mosaic flooring, with its floral and coloured enamel motifs, reminiscent of the Art Deco style, very much in fashion at the time this house was constructed. On the right-hand side is a reading room with its wide bookshelf unit. This bright room faces west with a view over the garden. Its floor is laid with aged oak wood parquet flooring. At the end of the hall, on the left-hand side, a corridor leads to a vast kitchen, a dining room and a double lounge.
Behind its double, sliding doors, the kitchen is laid out around a central unit. It is fully fitted and enhanced with numerous cupboards. This room features a tall window opening on to the rear courtyard. Cement floor tiles are harmoniously mixed with parquet flooring. The ceiling features several floral mouldings. The dining room, facing the kitchen, has a view of the garden and is a peaceful area given over to relaxation. The 50 m², double lounge is steeped in light courtesy of several French windows, providing direct access out on to the various terraces. The period decor includes ceiling moulding and wainscoting with cap moulding. A wood-burning stove forms an original feature. Opposite the lounge, a door leads to a large functional laundry room, with a shower. A utility door provides access from the laundry room to the house.
First floor
A solid oak wood stairway goes up to the first floor which is characterised by spacious rooms. An impressive study is laid out on the left-hand side of the landing. This room is illuminated via two wide windows overlooking the garden. Further on, the main bedroom (with a wardrobe) is immense; it spans a floor surface area of more than 25 m². It stands out courtesy of its strip pattern parquet flooring and its Majorelle blue decor. It opens on to a private terrace with a panoramic view of Eiffel Tower. The adjoining, brilliant white bathroom also includes an exercise room at one end. The immaculate bathroom floor tiles match the double round wash-hand basins in their vanity unit.
