Looking out over the sea in Saint-Malo, a 1930’s villa set on 4,000 m² of land.
Facing the Channel Islands, the Corsaire City of Saint-Malo, with its 47,000 inhabitants, has TGV train links taking 2¼-hours to reach Paris and less than an hour to get to Rennes. Portsmouth can be reached via regular ferry crossings. Very near to hiking trails and just a few minutes from the town centre, schools and all shops.
Half of this property, standing in a peaceful district, is enclosed by walls, the other half by vegetation. It is accessed via gates opening off of a little country lane. The rear of the residence comes into view on a slightly lower level. The land is marked by miscellaneous areas: on one side, a car parking area, extended by a garden and wooded areas, sloping gently downwards.
A pedestrian gate at the front of the house makes it easy to reach the sea, once the little accessed road has been crossed.
The houseThis house, constructed from local quarry stone blocks, features dressed stone quoins and window surrounds as well as a slate roof and terraces. It spans a floor surface area of approx. 315 m² over three levels under a converted attic floor and above a basement. The overall architecture reflects traditional Breton construction methods as well as an era heavily marked by the Art Deco style. The inside is extremely bright courtesy of its south-west/north-east aspect and the size of its openings. The main entrance is reached via a flight of steps that go up to a covered porch. There is another entrance on the north side whilst a turret with a hexagonal roof flanks the south-west facade.
Ground floor
The entrance hall on a semi-basement level is an area which, on a level with the garden, provides access to a toilet and, via a few steps, to a landing. The latter leads to three areas: a kitchen (extended by a bow window) which opens via a sliding picture window into a lounge-dining room, spanning approx. 55 m² and looking out over the sea, with an area in the turret, like a little interior belvedere. A door opens on to a terrace, spanning approx. 20 m². Sliding pocket doors separate the landing from the living room. A third room, a small lounge with a second entrance, is extended by a bow window. The landing also houses a magnificent Art Deco style stairway which, together with light switches and door handles, forms one of the most outstanding features of the interior architecture. With underfloor heating, floors feature tiles and parquet flooring; the kitchen floor is covered with Brazilian granite. Doors and windows are composed of wood and aluminium.
First floor
An impressive chandelier is suspended above the stairway which, on this level, leads to two bedrooms with bath or shower rooms. The master bedroom, with a terrace and a sea view, communicates with a bathroom via an ingenious set of sliding doors and picture windows. The second bedroom also provides access to an area in the turret with a sea view. The landing and bedroom floors are covered with parquet flooring.
Attic
This level comprises a bedroom, with cupboards and hall areas, extended by a shower room with a toilet. There is also an attic on this level.
Garden level
This level, reached via a stairway by the front door, consists of two bedrooms with a bathroom and toilet, a room with a sauna/Jacuzzi, a storage room, a laundry room and a wine cellar.
Basement
The basement is accessed from the Jacuzzi room via a stairway in the turret. It includes miscellaneous storage areas, a workshop and a boiler room.
