An 18th century residence and its outbuildings, facing the river Loire, on the outskirts of Tours.
In the midst of the Loire Valley, classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. 12 minutes from the historic centre of Tours. 15 minutes from its TGV train station with links to Paris taking less than an hour. Also nearby are the A10 motorway, linking the French capital to the south-west of France, and an airport with direct flights to London. This property, in a sought-after commune with shops, schools and public transport, stands facing the river Loire.
This property can be accessed on the river side, with cars using wrought iron gates, flanked by freestone pillars, and pedestrians passing through a wrought iron wicket gate. Its square parklands are completely enclosed by walls. Set back, this house looks out over the parklands and the river Loire. Between it and the hillside are outbuildings and troglodyte caves.
The residenceFacing south, the house’s freestone facade features ten tall openings aligned around the porch leading to the main entrance. Each opening is flanked with sober freestone decor. The porch is enhanced with wrought iron railings that match the balustrade of the central window on the first floor. The roof, covered with slate, features a central roof dormer with scroll decor. An atrium window, opening on to a terrace, is set slightly back on the west side. The outbuildings can be accessed on the east side and from behind the house. The inside spans approx. 300 m² of living space, rationally spread out such that it is easy to move around. Most of the features dating from the construction period, such as the freestone, fireplaces, inlaid floor decoration, parquet flooring and ceilings, have been preserved.
Ground floor
A vast entrance vestibule, its floor tiles featuring inlaid decoration, houses an oak wood stairway, illuminated via an atrium window. On either side are the adjoining reception rooms, with a double lounge separated from a dining room by double doors. Both of these rooms have parquet flooring. The period marble fireplaces are flanked by panelling. The tall, south-facing windows let in copious amounts of light. The dining room is followed by a contemporary kitchen, with a veranda opening on to a terrace and the garden. A back kitchen and a toilet. At the end of the vestibule, a door provides direct access to the outbuilding behind the house.
First floor
This level has parquet flooring throughout and the ceilings are still quite high. The layout is similar to that of the ground floor with a wide landing, illuminated via a south-facing French window, giving a view over the river Loire. Three large bedrooms, with marble fireplaces. A bathroom. A shower room. A dressing room and a toilet.
Second floor
This level is partially converted into a study and a bedroom. A large room currently in use as an artist’s studio and another with a fireplace could easily be transformed into additional bedrooms. A toilet with a wash-hand basin. The outbuildingsBetween the residence and the hillside is a very large outbuilding, spanning a ground surface area of 250 m², on two levels. The opening on the east side of the house makes it possible to shelter vehicles. On the first level, a pedestrian door via the hillside constitutes an access independent of the rest of the property.
There is also a large troglodyte cave.
The gardenThis garden, spanning a surface area of approx. 1,200 m², is fully enclosed by walls and out of sight of onlookers. A very tall plane tree stands in front of the house. The terrace, on the south-west side of the house, is ideal for taking meals outside.
