An 18th century mansion house, with a terrace and a wooded courtyard, amidst a royal town on the banks of the river Loire, in the Touraine region.
In the Loire Valley, classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO, and 15 minutes from Chenonceau Chateau, this mansion house stands in the midst of a lively and dynamic, tourist town, notably renowned for its market. All shops and amenities are within walking distance, including an SNCF train station, with 90-minute links to Paris. The A10 motorway puts the French capital just 2½ hours away by car.
Near to Amboise Chateau, this mansion house is set in a privileged location. The main entrance, in a quiet street, is reached via tall wrought iron gates that open on to a wide, wooded courtyard. A flight of stone steps leads up to the building entrance. Two openings on the Loire embankments provide access to a garage and a back entrance.
The mansion houseThis mansion house, spanning four levels, is constructed from freestone. Comprising a central building and two wings set at right angles on either side, its roofs are covered with slate. The main building has a gable roof, the wings have hip roofs. A few steps go up from the courtyard to a wide porch, enclosed with stone balustrades. The central entrance door is topped with an awning in the form of a triangular pediment. The facade has numerous windows. Two doors, set in one of the wings, are protected by a glass and wrought iron canopy. One of these doors provides access to the basement, the other is the service door to the kitchen.
Ground floor
A vestibule provides access to all the rooms on this level. The entrance door faces a vast reception lounge, where the floor is laid with strip pattern parquet flooring and a sculpted marble fireplace is topped with a gilded mirror. Light floods in through its large windows which look out over the river Loire. Its many mouldings and decorative features as well as its high ceiling make this room extremely elegant. The vestibule also provides access to a kitchen and a dining room, with oak wood parquet flooring and a painted, wooden fireplace, topped with a trumeau. This room is enhanced with decorative moulding on the walls and ceiling.
A large, quarter-turning, wooden stairway, with wrought iron railings and a wooden handrail, goes upstairs from the vestibule. Furthermore, a few steps go up to a mezzanine landing. A laundry room, with a toilet, and a small lounge-library, with a brick fireplace, are on either side of this landing. All the reception rooms intercommunicate with one another.
First floor
The landing provides access to two bedrooms, one with strip pattern parquet flooring as well as a shower room and toilet, the other with a bathroom and toilet. Straight on, a wide corridor leads to two large bedrooms, both with parquet flooring, a fireplace as well as a bathroom and toilet. One of them also has a dressing room. A fifth bedroom, with a shower room and toilet is on a mezzanine with a view over the courtyard.
A second stairway goes up to the attic space.
Attic
On the mezzanine, a sixth bedroom, with terracotta floor tiles, then a landing marks the entrance to a self-contained flat. This comprises, on one side, a lounge and a bedroom, with old terracotta floor tiles and a shower room with a toilet, and, on the other side, a large room, with a kitchen area, and a bedroom, with a shower room and toilet. The old roofing framework has been left exposed and enhances all of these spacious rooms.
Basement
The basement, spanning a surface area of approx. 180 m², comprises a single-car garage, a boiler room, a leisure area, two vaulted wine cellars and other rooms that could be used for workshop or storage purposes.
