An 18th century mansion house, with outbuildings and a garden, in one of the Anjou region’s historic towns.
This residence stands in the midst of a historic town, with a wealth of heritage. The town has all shops and amenities which are within walking distance. A renowned golf course is nearby. Angers and Saumur are about half an hour away and the banks of the river Loire are less than 25 km away. The A11 and A85 motorways are within easy reach.
This mansion house was constructed at right angles to the street where, in olden days, the town’s most outstanding large residences were built. The large gateway of the entrance porch opens into a paved courtyard with, on one side, the mansion house, its gable bordering the street, and, at the end, an outbuilding that was once the stable and home to the groom. The garden, almost entirely enclosed by walls, is laid out beyond the mansion house’s west gable and behind the outbuilding.
The mansion houseThis mansion house, constructed from stone and lime-rendered quarry stone blocks, spans three levels, one of which is attic space. It comprises a main building extended, behind its west gable, by a second and a third building. All have slate roofs featuring roof dormers. Freestone has been used for framing around the openings, the quoins and the cornices. All the windows are fitted with wooden shutters which are slatted on the first floor. A porch way in the paved courtyard leads to two French windows belonging to the main building and a few steps go up to the entrance door set in the second building. Three cellars under the residence, one of which houses a boiler room, can also be reached from the courtyard.

The entrance door opens into a vestibule which provides access to a one-flight, quarter-turning, wooden stairway as well as to a small and a large dining room. The small dining room precedes a kitchen, whilst the large dining room is followed by a lounge. The latter has strip pattern parquet flooring, whilst the other rooms have terracotta floor tiles. Both the lounge and dining room feature attractive wrought panelling with pilasters. The lounge also includes a grey marble fireplace, with white marble inlaid decoration and fine moulding. The dining room features an imitation marble alcove housing an outstanding, white ceramic wood-burning stove, topped with a column, crowned in turn with a large fruit basket. The small dining room has a freestone fireplace with an old oven. The latter room and the kitchen have exposed ceiling beams. The vestibule also leads to a toilet.
