House Paris 5th (75)
- Surface 700 m2
- Rooms 15
- Bedrooms 9
On Paris’ left bank, between Boulevard-Saint-Germain and the river Seine, a 17th century house with three upper floors under attic space and above a ground floor.
The elegant, dressed stone, street facade comprises four sets of openings on the three upper levels, the ground floor as well as the attic floor. Its wrought iron window sills reflect a pure 17th century style and its small-paned casement windows have wooden frames. Its carriage door with a semi-circular arched lintel, the illustration of which by Jules-Adolphe-Chauvet is preserved in the Carnavalet Museum, is reassuring. This property is laid out in a U-shape with a patio in its centre. Set against an interior facade wall, the “puits de la Brinvilliers” (Brinvilliers’ well), illustrated by Georges-Henri-Manesse and also preserved in the Carnavalet Museum, confirms the documented historic past. The entrance hall is paved with stone. Walls and passageways are enhanced with columns, also made of stone, and sculpted capitals. Exposed beams bestow the vestibule with a medieval character. A double, quarter-turning stairway still has its original balusters and features windows looking out over the patio. A lift going to all six floors makes the house easy to move around between the different levels. A few semi-circular and basket-handle arched windows illuminate the passageways on the ground floor. Three sets of windows on each level look out over the patio and illuminate the rear section of the house. On the ground floor are the entrance, a guest toilet and a large vestibule opening on to the patio. The building overlooking the rear comprises a kitchen, a linen room and an area with two mezzanines. On the first, second and third floors are bedrooms with shower rooms, dressing rooms and separate toilets. The fourth floor comprises a lounge, with a west-facing terrace and a view of Notre-Dame, as well as a kitchen able to include a pleasant eating area (more than 40 m²). The basement is fitted out with a sauna, an exercise room and a swimming pool.
