A 390 m² house set in a Mediterranean garden overlooking Tamaris Bay with a view of the nearby sea.
This property is just a stone’s throw from the seafront on the Bay of Lazaret, in the midst of the Tamaris-sur-mer district, to the south of Toulon’s large harbour. 15 minutes, via the cornice, from the A50 motorway which runs along the coast between Marseille and Nice and from the TGV train station, with direct links to Paris, in the centre of Toulon. 5-minutes’ walk from the shuttle boats, crossing the harbour to the TGV train station, the port of Toulon and the old town with its large, daily, Provencal market. 40 minutes from Toulon-Hyères airport and 70 minutes from that of Marseille-Marignane. Further south, on the isthmus of Saint-Mandrier, just a 5-minute car drive away, is the old seaside resort created in the early 19th century, with its shops, a large white sandy beach known as Les-Sablettes, restaurants overlooking the water and a large, 5-star hotel. Opposite the house, on the peninsula, the little town of Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer and its marina have little changed over the years.
Once through the remote-controlled gates, a gravel driveway that goes around the building leads to several parking areas in front of and behind the house. A few steps on the south side go to an alleyway, covered with a plant arbour, leading to the main entrance. The garden around the house gives an impression of space especially as there is a clear view of the sea. Dry stone walls have been built in the grounds around a well. Tall palm trees provide the property with a very exotic air. In front of the house, terraces surrounding the 4.50x10.35 m swimming pool act as extensions of the large interior areas. This 2-storey house features basket-handle arched, small-paned windows. The hip roof is bordered by a double overhanging cornice. A wing on the west side protects the pool and barbecue area from the mistral wind. It would be possible to create a studio flat in addition to the independent bedroom and small storage room that it already contains.
The houseThis house, constructed in the 1980’s, was transformed during restoration works into a large, very bright, spacious home, with a contemporary air.
Ground floor
The house is entered on the south side via a superb, large, old wooden door. It opens into a vast vestibule protected via a lobby, glazed with small panes. Behind the first flight of the stairway are a separate toilet and a small storage room. A large study, on the east side, adjoins a bedroom that opens on to the garden, with its own shower room comprising a sauna. A dining room, on the west side, adjoins an old kitchen, in use as a back kitchen, with a door providing access out on the north side under the carport or down to the basement. A west-facing lounge, with a fireplace, is extended by a large, convivial kitchen, opening on the south side via large, arched picture windows on to the terraces around the swimming pool. A corridor leads to a door on the west side and provides access to a separate toilet as well as to a bedroom and its shower room, overlooking a terrace that receives the evening sun.
First floor
The central stairway leads to a vast landing providing access to four bedrooms and a separate toilet. The two biggest bedrooms have their own bathroom and a superb view of the sea. One of the two bathrooms could easily be reached from the landing by all residents. The two west-facing rooms (a private bathroom and a third bedroom) open on to a large 50 m² terrace, bordered by balusters, dominating the sea and the garden. A fourth bedroom, on the east side, receives the morning sun.
The garden
The garden is composed of several terraced areas, supported by dry stone walls, with separate areas, a large level lawn and palm trees over a hundred years old, providing an …
