An 18th century presbytery and an interesting outbuilding in a lively, unspoilt village in the Poitou region.
In a village with all shops and amenities, less than 15 minutes from Châtellerault (TGV train station) with 90-minute links to Paris. Stronghold of cutting-edge industries in the aeronautical sector, Châtellerault is also home to creativity with its 3T National theatre, its National Circus School and Jazzelleraut, its annual Jazz festival. The area around Châtellerault is also known for hot air balloon flights as well as Vienne's wide range of landscapes and heritage just waiting to be explored.
Poitiers, the second biggest town in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, is 40 minutes away (TGV train station) with 2œ hour links to Charles-de-Gaulle airport and 65-minute links to Bordeaux. Its airport has flights to Lyon, London and even Manchester.
This presbytery, constructed on a sort of islet in the midst of the village, neighbours houses built between the 15th and 19th centuries. Wooden gates open into a little garden, crossed by a gravel alleyway. Constructed in an L-shape and spanning two levels over a cellar, the main openings face south-west. The presbytery remains concealed from onlookers. Its dressed stone facade is a reminder of its importance. Wide windows are laid out over both facades, on the walled garden side as well as on the road side. The garden is slightly raised in relation to the street. The church bells only ring now for services.
The presbyteryThis presbytery exudes a stately air courtesy of its L-shape, its dressed stone facade and its wide openings. The entrance is to be found in the corner of the two buildings. Its roof is covered with old flat tiles.
