House Noyon (60)

A 17th century townhouse opposite Noyon cathedral, 1 hour 30 minutes from Paris. Situated directly opposite the cathedral, this townhouse enjoys a radiant view of its Gothic facade, built with particularly luminous yellow-ivory limestone. Its tri-partite portal and two spires with three tall, pointed arches lend the building its full magnificence. Only the parvis separates the impressive edifice from the property, which is in line with the 17th-century canons' houses. While the canons had lived on the site since the Middle Ages, a fire destroyed the medieval quarter in the 17th century, which was then rebuilt in a classical style. Today, this is a listed historic site. At first glance, it is the rounded shape of the square that catches the eye, with the canons' houses surrounding the cathedral facade. The majestic appearance of the property is enhanced by the two entrance pillars topped by monumental stylised flame-vase finials. Once through the tall gateway, a courtyard of old cobblestones leads to the townhouse, which stands between courtyard and garden following the traditional layout. On the other side of the building, a paved terrace guarded by a wrought-iron balustrade overlooks a walled garden planted with fruit trees. The style of the townhouse is typical of homes of this era, featuring a tall silhouette, large openings arranged in bays, a deep-pitched roof clad with flat tiles, solid gables and a basement with a perron. The residence embodies the spirit of the 17th century, even though it was extended in the 19th century by a second building. This annexe is roofed in the Mansard style, built of jointed stone and brick, and has two wings with roof terraces, one of which is protected by a balustrade. The main courtyard, surrounded by flowerbeds and paved with old mossy cobblestones, leads straight to the stone approach stairs.

Castle Compiegne (60)

A splendid 17th-century chateau with a large horse stable and 60 hectares of grounds in France’s Oise department. Two stone pillars crowned with urns flank a wrought-iron entrance gate at the end of a discreet village street. The gate opens into the property’s main driveway. This driveway runs alongside a French formal garden, down the side of the chateau and round to its court of honour. A feudal castle once stood on this site, which was a barony from the 13th century. The first stone of today's edifice was laid in 1636, as a lintel engraving tells us, on this land that once belonged to the Duchy of Burgundy but that became French when absolutism was bolstered under King Henry IV of France. The basement, underground vaults and foundations date back to this era. The chateau is typical of the 17th-century transformation of seigneurial dwellings into leisure chateaux – this chateau underwent changes that were characteristic of this great century in French history. The water-filled moat, made on older foundations, was probably dug out in the 19th century. A few buildings and a large farm complex with an open courtyard were also added to the estate during the Bourbon Restoration. The last major changes were made to the chateau at the end of the 19th century. During the Belle Époque, life in the chateau was vibrant and cheerful. But this gaiety only lasted up to the First World War. The property was a direct victim of the first assaults in this war – the Germans occupied it and in 1917 partially destroyed it. Yet in 1926 the edifice was rebuilt in exactly the same way as it looked before, thanks to the insistence and passion of its owner at the time. So, once again, the building became a grand dwelling of stone and slate. This magnificent chateau surrounded by a water-filled moat stands out for its tall elevations of dressed stone punctuated with six bays arranged symmetrically: three on each side of a curved avant-corps. The building has four floors. A slate roof crowns it. Two pavilions flank its north side. The position of this towering chateau, perched proudly upon a vast terrace, adds to its majestic bearing. From its court, the tall edifice looks out at a rural landscape beyond a splendid foreground: a French formal garden where manicured lawns and neatly trimmed hedges surround the grand building. In the distance, age-old trees dot a lush backdrop punctuated with thick groves and meadows that seems to stretch endlessly away. Lastly, on one side of the grounds, a collection of outbuildings with roofs of flat tiles completes the property. These fine annexes are just as elegant as the chateau itself and are mainly designed for horses.

House with terrace Compiegne (60)

This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful houses in the city of Compiègne! Located in a very quiet, paved pedestrian street, this residence, with its half-timbering, its pretty stones, and its emblematic facade, has spanned the centuries and remains as remarkable as ever. A favorite of 11 rooms, spread over 310 m² of living space, with 7 beautiful bedrooms (up to 9 by dividing the top floor), right in the city center. The vast ground floor consists of 2 entrances, a fitted kitchen, a dining room, a double living room with a patio bathing the whole in light. On each floor, there are pretty bedrooms with shower room or bathroom. The solid wood floors, the moldings, the library and the piano, in these atypical spaces, contribute to the fullness felt. It's warm and very tasteful for a large family where everyone will have their own space to live. In line with the double living room, the terrace and the garden of approximately 400 m² face south and old stables are present in the garden. It's quite easy to imagine family and friends relaxing there around a barbecue, out of sight. A heritage for generations. The city center offers all types of shops, restaurants and historic places. You are 1 hour from Paris, 40 minutes from Charles de Gaule airport. Do not hesitate to contact me to discuss and obtain further details on this property. Les honoraires sont à la charge du vendeur.
