Bastide Lauzerte (82)

An 18th century manor house with a striking staircase and uninterrupted views over the valley near Lauzerte, in the south of the Quercy Blanc region. A small road runs alongside the property in a village, on the best exposed hillside of the valley. Slightly set back below, the manor house is built on the ruins of an old castle. It enjoys a privileged setting, as much for its natural surroundings as for its distant views. At the outbreak of the French Revolution, the castle towers were demolished as they were deemed too ostentatious. The manor house, built shortly thereafter in 1793 (the date is carved into the lintel of an exterior door), had to be sober. This white Quercy stone building extends over two levels. It has two evenly-balanced facades, one on the north side and the other on the south side. The long-sloped roof features monk-and-nun tiles and a two-row Provençal frieze. The main entrance is on the north side; a flight of stone steps provides access to the double door leading to the ground floor. The facade on this side has several openings, including a mullioned window, a rare reminder of the former castle. On the south side, the facade is more varied: on the ground floor, three arched windows frame an entrance door with a lintel topped by a high relief triangular pediment. The horizontal section of the pediment extends beyond the triangle and supports a sphere on a square pedestal at each end. The upper storey has eight windows, all arched except for the one above the entrance. Its rectangular frame is certainly an original medieval feature. A ground-floor extension with a single-pitched roof has recently been added to the western side of the house. It contains the kitchen and opens onto a covered terrace. One of the castle's square towers with three levels has been partly rebuilt. Slightly set back at the south-west corner, it connects to the main building. Its pavilion roof is clad with old flat tiles. A large lean-to, used as a double garage, adjoins the tower. Finally, the at first flat and then gently sloping garden features a small covered swimming pool at the side of the house.

Property Villefranche-du-Périgord (24)

Among the countless gems that the Dordogne has to offer, there are numerous mills. The one I'm talking to you about is located in the Périgord Noir, 30 minutes from essential sites such as Beynac, Castelnaud la Chapelle, Domme, La Roque Gageac, etc... You will have to drive 150 km to get to Bordeaux or Toulouse, 100 km to reach Brive. The history of this building complex of approximately 250 m2 begins at the end of the 18th century. Three generations of mills then followed one another until 1850. A first element leaning against the rock houses a workshop, a cellar, boiler room, storage, etc. A second element, composed of a large bedroom, office and amenities, adjoining the home, but independent, could be intended to receive your friends or as a tourist lodge. Finally, the home on 3 levels with a living room of more than 90 m2 and castle volumes. Mezzanine, office, 2 bedrooms, large convertible attic. Period fireplaces, stone sink complete an elegant and careful renovation. The property of approximately 8 ha in one piece is made up of equal parts meadows and woods. You will discover its bucolic pond, its 2 springs, several dry stone shelters, and a charming wooden barn. Note a remarkable reach in good condition with multiple entrances facing 2 streams. What we think: Once again Périgord keeps its promises... Water, but not too much, the charm of a building which saw the revolution, the magic of preserved nature!
