Manor Caen (14)
An 18th century manor house set in 2 hectares of wooded grounds 15 minutes from Caen in the Odon valley. Just 3 minutes from the town centre, a winding lane leads up to the manor house entrance. An elegant gateway with slender wrought-iron balusters is flanked by Caen stone pillars topped with gendarme caps. It opens onto a long, gravelled comma-shaped driveway lined with lime trees, leading to the courtyard and the pale yellow manor house.
The vast stone dwelling, with its two floors under the eaves, stands proudly in its grounds full of varied tree species, opposite a meadow and woodlands below where the river Odon flows. Next to the house, on the same level, are an outbuilding and a former barn which, like the manor house, have flat-tiled roofs, pointed stone facades, straight windows and Caen stone facings and frames.
