A 19th century, large, luxurious home, dubbed “the manor”, with a view of the lake, in the north-west of Savoy.
The history of Savoy is visible and omnipresent in the local surroundings. Nowadays, the region has managed to take advantage of its exceptional setting, linked to the lake and the mountains surrounding it. Set in a privileged spot, facing the biggest natural lake in France which extends over 18 km and disappears into the distance in a mountainous landscape, this property is 32 km from Chambéry, 37 km from Annecy, 18 km from Aix-les-Bains and 60 km from Geneva. Chambéry-Savoie airport is the nearest and is some 21 km away. Lyon-Saint-Exupéry and Geneva international airports are both 60 km away. The town has all shops and amenities.
On the outskirts of the county town, this property spans more than a hectare, a section of which does not adjoin the house. It stands on the heights of the town, near to a few houses. Once through the entrance gates, the lake comes into view. This south-facing, rectangular building reflects a symmetrical, visual harmony, courtesy of the central gable and the large facade openings. A meadow extends from the terrace between several trees and gives a view of the lake, its water appearing turquoise or metallic in keeping with the weather. The gazebo at the bottom of the garden is a promise of time spent contemplating the landscape and daydreaming. “O time, suspend your flight! and you, happy hours, suspend your race: let us savour the fleet delights of our fairest days!” (Lamartine, The Lake).
The houseThis house, known locally as “the manor”, dates from the 19th century. Its layout and its style are more reminiscent of a large, luxurious or middle-class home of the time: it is built on a plateau spanning 3,385 m². The current owners restored it in 2018. It spans approx. 330 m² of living space over two levels. The stairway goes upstairs and a few steps provide access down to the cellars. The roof, covered with interlocking tiles, was redone in 2019. The detached plot of land spans 7,710 m².
Garden level
The entrance, on one side of the house, provides access to a vestibule, painted in light-coloured, monochrome shades and featuring two corner cupboards. It is followed by a fitted kitchen, newly redone in a contemporary style. White contrasts with dark, the matt finish with a shiny look, all illuminated with light filtering in through north-facing windows. The corridor then creates a direct link with a hall area providing access to the stairway, a small lounge, a room, with a large, walk-in shower, and a toilet. On one side of the corridor, set in the middle of the building, is a large lounge, featuring light coloured hues. It is steeped in light via three south-facing, double French windows that lead directly out on to the terrace. Its black fireplace, in good working order, takes pride of place. This lounge can be reached via all the openings of the other rooms. It extends into a dining room. The lower level of the walls is lined with moulded panelling and a cornice encircles the ceiling; they flank hand-painted walls. Both these rooms have light-coloured oak wood parquet flooring.
With the exception of the kitchen, every room features a period fireplace.
First floor
A vast landing provides access, on one side, to two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and toilet. The windows face west. On the other side, the biggest bedroom has its own bathroom and toilet, a dressing room and, at the end, a second bedroom. All facing south, these rooms are very bright all year round.
A corridor crossing this level leads to the opposite section: a linen room, a bathroom and a small lounge. All the walls reflect light hues, contrasting with the dark, rustic parquet flooring. Every bedroom features a fireplace.
The first cellar, used for storage …
