1h30 from Paris, in southern Sologne, a former hunting lodge surrounded by 40 hectares of land.
The property is located in a small picturesque village in the heart of the Loire Valley. Local shops and the nearest train station to Paris are about ten minutes away. This hamlet has witnessed key events in French history. A memorial stone hidden in the middle of the forest, next to the property, recalls the famous episode of the civil wars called “La Fronde” under Louis XIV. In the centre of the village, a castle housed the Anglo-French Supreme War Council during the Second World War, which requested the armistice in June 1940.
The approach to the estate is wooded Sologne landscape punctuated by clearings creating breathing spaces in the forest, and in which hedgerows from former pasturelands still remain. A double gate opens onto a wide gravelled forecourt. A large terrace runs alongside the house, embellished by numerous Medici vases and colourful flowerbeds. An outbuilding with several kennels, which recall the origin of the house, and the caretaker's house are close to the entrance gate. Another building houses the indoor swimming pool. The property also offers a stone well, a wood shed and an old bread oven. A large park with a lake completes the estate.
The main houseThe former hunting lodge has been partly redesigned by a renowned architect. The house is a long building filled with natural light thanks to the many windows on either side. The facade is decorated with high green shutters, which emphasise the window tops made of local brick. Some have rounded arches, also in red brick. The roof is laid with flat Burgundy tiles and features dormer windows. The rear of the main building has a more sophisticated layout: the main body is extended at both ends by two wings set at right angles, including a square tower with a four-sided roof.
Ground floor
From the terrace, several entrances are possible. One part of the house is separated by a well-equipped kitchen with exposed beams, some walls are rendered with tiles arranged in a herringbone pattern, elements which underscore the age of the building. An opening with an old oak frame leads to a rear kitchen and a small larder. A door opens into a large reception room of over 100 m², with a view of both the main entrance to the property and the park. The room is L-shaped. The first part is the oldest and has two fireplaces, one of which is closed. It serves as a dining room and faces a fireplace with a stone mantlepiece. A wooden spiral staircase, located to one side, provides access to some of the bedrooms. The living room is situated in the second part, which opens onto the inner terrace facing the tower, and boasts a monumental fireplace. Its surround is made of brick, the mantle of burgundy stone and a large raised hearth extends the fireplace. The wooden and stone features add a lot of character to this extensive space. On the dining room side, a carved wooden door leads to the first bedroom with its fully tiled shower room and a separate toilet. Between the living room and the dining room, a wide corridor leads to a second bedroom with a shower room and separate toilet. The two ground floor bedrooms are spacious and bright. Finally, a large study is illuminated by a double French window which gives direct access to the inner courtyard. The oak beams testify to the age of the house.
First floor
The staircase from the study leads to a small independent flat with a view of the park. It comprises a large bedroom followed by a hallway with Burgundy cupboards on both sides and a bathroom with a shower and toilet. The second staircase leads from the dining room to six bedrooms and a study, each with its own bathroom and toilet. The caretaker's houseIt has been …
