A manor house, resembling a seaside villa, in 3 ha of parklands with a lake and a river, in the Champagne region.
2½ hours from Brussels and from Luxembourg.
25 minutes from a TGV train station with 44-minute links to the French capital.
In the Massif-de-Saint-Thierry area, a vine-growing region crossed by the Champagne Tourist Route.
This property is set in the peace and quiet in a residential district.
The manor house, with its back turned to the little road going through the village, stands in a dominant position in immaculately kept, flower-filled parklands, with a wooded section, shady areas for relaxing and a few fruit trees. It is just a stone’s throw from the heart of the countryside.
Although not directly overlooked, this property is not isolated.
The manor houseThis rendered house was constructed from millstone grit, brick and quarry stone blocks around the 1900’s.
Its multiple-sloped roof, covered with flat tiles, is enhanced with several roof dormers.
The building blends miscellaneous architectural period features with its numerous balconies, brick-framed openings and bull’s eye windows with stone surrounds, all constructed using noble materials.
It stands facing the parklands with which it communicates via its many openings.
Although it spans a total surface area of approx. 600 m² over three levels, built over a cellar, only 360 m² are currently habitable.
Ground floor
The main, central entrance is marked by double, glazed doors, sheltered by a flat tile covered canopy.
The hall still has its cement floor tiles as well as an oak wood stairway with wrought iron railings featuring pine cones. It provides access to all levels.
At the end of the hall is a cloakroom, with a toilet, as well as a little Art Deco style bathroom, with a bath, a wash-hand basin and its original taps, traditionally marked hot/cold.
Double doors, glazed with small panes, open into a little lounge, with oak wood flooring, panelling and a marble fireplace. It precedes a dining room where white floor tiles, with black inlaid decoration, blend with an astonishing wrought cast iron fireplace, featuring musician cherubs. The dining room communicates with the kitchen via an L-shaped hall area, the walls of which are lined with cupboards like a pantry. A door opens on to a stairway going down to the cellar.
An impressive Art Deco style fireplace takes pride of place in a large lounge, with oak wood flooring and panelling on the other side of the hall.
A door opens into the 3-storey section still awaiting restoration, with a separate entrance opening on to a little garden that precedes the road. This section of the house comprises six rooms on the ground floor as well as five rooms on each of the first and second floors. The plastered walls are clean; the floors made of fir wood. A balcony on each level dominates the parklands and the countryside beyond the tall trees in the parklands.
First floor
A vast landing provides access to four bedrooms, laid out in pairs on either side. Each pair shares a bathroom. One of these bathrooms is enhanced by a balcony.
The bedrooms are bright and each has its own marble fireplace. The floors are made of oak wood. Two of the bedrooms feature balconies that look out over the parklands.
Utility rooms such as a laundry room, a toilet and a wardrobe are cleverly laid out on the road side.
Second floor
A corridor runs alongside two bedrooms, with wash-hand basins, and continues with a wardrobe, a storage room, a toilet and lastly, at the end, an attic. The floors are also made of oak wood.
