House with terrace Llanishen (United Kingdom)

Located in an elevated position above the glorious Monmouthshire countryside and on the edge of the Wye Valley, this truly stunning home offers an idyllic rural lifestyle surrounded by breathtaking, panoramic views of the Vale of Usk. At the end of a small country lane, behind electric gates and at the end of a sweeping driveway the substantial four-bedroom home called Twyn Gorse promises peace and privacy, enveloped within three acres of land. The perfectly placed property at the brow of a hill maximises the incredible panoramic view that extends for miles across the landscape to the horizon, and from the vast garden terrace the vista across the county is exceptional. When the current owners spent two years updating and remodelling the property into a remarkable home, they optimised the connection to the view from the house by adding a sizeable first floor balcony as the front row seat to feel totally immersed in the landscape. Outside, the property can boast a separate annexe ideal for multi-generational living onsite, plus a double garage, carport and an outbuilding ripe for conversion. Inside, the remodelling of the 1950s abode into a luxury, contemporary abode has created an outstanding open-plan living space in a broken-plan layout across the whole of the main ground floor. A single-storey extension sweeps to the side and offers a utility room and sizeable family room with a door to a second kitchen, opening up the possibility of creating an annexe or the most wonderful for games rooms with a very short journey to top up the snacks. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms, with the principal bedroom suite impressing with a dressing area with seating, a high-end ensuite with massive shower plus the balcony that boasts the most incredible place to relax accompanied by the panoramic views. The house might be off a tiny country lane, high on a hill but it is also well-connected to the thriving and friendly village of Llanishen which offers a pub and a village hall as the centres of the community, as well as access onto the B4293. This is a direct route to Monmouth which is only about seven miles away and offers an impressive array of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants as well as amenities and facilities. The town can also offer some of the best schools in the area, although nearby Trelleck has a primary school closer to home. To the west is the popular and pretty town of Usk, once voted the best place to live in Wales, and the main road through Llanishen also heads south to Chepstow which can offer a mainline railway station and the M48 linking to the M4 and M5 for journeys further afield. Being on the doorstep of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty means a myriad of ways to make lasting memories within the stunning landscape, from hiking and biking to woodland walks and water-based sports, the only challenge is trying to choose what to try first. Step inside - Step inside this very impressive home and it immediately embraces you with light and space via a double-height hall that includes a galleried landing and stunning chandelier cascading down the stairwell. It's an entrance of grandeur yet is welcoming and inviting, enticing you to explore further by revealing glimpses and views of the substantial ground floor spaces via large, open doorways. To the left is the impressive living room which is probably going to win the battle of drawing you inside first, in part due to the mesmerising, panoramic view that the space fully embraces via two sets of massive glass sliding doors. It's a living room that has been created for social gatherings with family and friends, and lots of them too, as the vast space happily welcomes multiple sofas. Sinking into a bank of cushions, it's not hard to relax and thoroughly enjoy time spent being truly hypnotised by the rural vista as well as the scintillating company. When the temperature rises, the glass doors become the heroes of the space, gently sliding open to create effortless indoor outdoor wandering while allowing refreshing breezes to waft in and cool the space. The living room seamlessly flows into the kitchen space that is another area designed to draw people together, offering them a special place to comfortably linger and chat with the cook whilst sitting at the integrated breakfast bar at one end of the vast kitchen island. The high-end, well-equipped contemporary kitchen is a cook's dream, boasting two ovens, hob, a vegetable sink, granite work surfaces and a large wine cooler as just some of the highlights to please and impress. At the end of the kitchen the connected reception space flows into a dining area around the corner, a more formal area with a more intimate atmosphere. This sunny and pleasant space is perfectly designed to host dinner parties and enjoy family meals and can boast its own direct flow to the garden via a set of French doors that offer a beautifully framed view of the garden. Taking down walls within this period property has been a triumph; joining all the rooms into one connected space for perfect flow both physically and visually and yet cleverly zoning the spaces so they each have a function and atmosphere. But the house has not finished with revealing accommodation to impress on the ground floor just yet. Via a door at the end of the kitchen a utility room is waiting to assist you with a sizeable, practical space and is joined by a cloakroom and duo of storage cupboards. There's a door at the end of this section of the home that opens into a surprise second kitchen and then a substantial room that boasts a wall of bifold doors that open to the garden, as well as framing the seemingly never-ending view. This bonus single-storey addition to the side of the house could be used as a games room and party space, or a quieter and separate reception room, or because it has its own external door at the rear of the house it could even be a contender to become an annexe. Upstairs, via the charming central galleried landing, four sumptuous and very spacious bedrooms await, with the principal able to boast an ensuite worthy of a five-star hotel and a joy to stumble into every morning. But this principal suite can boast extra layers of impressive spaces, with a dressing area that includes a bespoke, built-in window seat and direct access to the incredible glass panelled balcony that spans the width of the house. From enjoying a weekend brunch in the sun to indulging in a late night drink under the stars, the balcony is the ultimate place to relax and feel totally immersed in the enviable panoramic view, with nature and wildlife neighbours as the only near neighbours. Both bedroom two and three at the rear of the house enjoy their own sweeping countryside views via dual aspect windows, as well as sharing a Jack and Jill' bathroom, while bedroom four shares in the joy of the mesmerising vista at the front of the house directly from the pillow. The family bathroom is another luxurious space. The thought, care and budget lavished on the rest of the house is very evident in this room too, through the choice of porcelain tiles and a high-end suite that includes a substantial walk-in shower and modern freestanding bath placed at an angle so that the view is waiting at the end of the bath to be fully enjoyed. This is a country home that hides an abundance of extra features with a view to the future as well as the present, including a state-of-the-art heat recovery ventilation system and solar panels as well as underfloor heating and triple glazing that when combined create a home that is highly energy efficient as well as sophisticated, modern and elegant - a dream c.. Vendor Insight - When we came to view Twyn Gorse for the first time, we knew that we had to have it simply because of the position. Located at the top of the hill with 360-degree views, the scenery is phenomenal and we firmly believe that it's one of the best plots in South Wales. The views over the local villages and hills are just sublime, say the owners. We purchased the property in 2016 and restoration work began in 2018. Built in 1957, everything was original and required stripping back, including the part of a tree trunk used to finish off the roof! What we have now is a welcoming and cosy home that has been insulated to a very high standard; it's efficient and economical to run and we're currently using electricity generated by ourselves and not from the National Grid. We enjoy being part of a friendly little community where everyone is willing to help out but are never intrusive. Our village hall is one of the most active in the area and there's something going on all the time, including cooked breakfasts, free coffee mornings, variety shows, pantomimes, skittles, soft play, and BBQs for special occasions. The village pub serves nice food and we also have a well-stocked shop that's handy for day-to-day essentials. We're equidistant between Chepstow and Monmouth both of which have a wide range of amenities. The garden is completely flat which is unusual for a property in this location. It's great for every generation as children enjoy endless games of football and bike riding, whilst adults sit comfortably with a glass of something chilled. The patio wraps around the house with different seating areas to make the most of the views and sunshine. It's perfect for relaxing and entertaining with a sunken patio and hot tub area, speaker system, and a well-equipped outdoor kitchen. We see a huge variety of wildlife here, as well as red kites and buzzards who are almost on the same level as us as we're so high up. We had a vision of open plan living which has worked brilliantly. The kitchen is the heart of the home where we can cook and easily chat to our guests, whilst the lounge benefits from the amazing, ever-changing views where we can watch the rain and mist come in before the clouds give way to bright sunshine. Outside - Step outside into three acres of private and peaceful land that is drenched in stunning rural views, as well as pools of sunlight and the natural world as the constant soundtrack. Approaching the house along the small country lane it appears on the horizon and looks magnificent. Through the electric gates and the period property remodelled into a modern home over a two year period dominates the plot, perched high above the sprawling Monmouthshire landscape below. The vast wraparound terrace measuring over 160 square metres and accessed from the house via a number of glass doors, makes the most of the surrounding views, ensuring maximum enjoyment and connection, and is the hub of the home outside. Relaxing on a lounger with a book, enjoying alfresco dining in peace or with company, hosting the best BBQs and garden parties supported by the bonus outside kitchen are all moments to make lifelong memories with the most incredible scenery as the constant backdrop. There's plenty of parking for guests on the driveway and the house can offer a home for a variety of the owner's vehicles including a double garage and a carport as a handy home for a caravan or motorhome. There's a place for guests to stay too once the party has wrapped up, a detached annexe that can boast its own kitchen and shower room and so could also offer multi-generational living opportunities as well as the potential to be a holiday let, subject to planning. The majority of the land away from the manicured and landscaped garden that wraps around the house offers plenty of private woodland walks and paddocks to explore and an abundance of special spots to set down a picnic blanket and relax. The property can even supply a renovation opportunity in the garden for an owner to get their imagination whirring. The outbuilding called The Quarry, which has water and electricity already installed, is looking for a new lease of life, subject to planning, to add to the outstanding features and extras that this truly special home and garden offers. House Whitebrook (United Kingdom)

In a beautiful, tranquil location in the Lower Wye Valley, this imaginatively refurbished and restyled country cottage combines rustic charm, contemporary chic and modern-day practicality. The charming property nestles into the hillside at the end of a no-through road, where it is surrounded by fields and woodland. The vendors say they were drawn to it by the wonderful views from the front of the house, the privacy and the feeling of open space and nature. They add: It would be hard to replicate this location, overlooking the Wye Valley, with the trees and their wonderful changing colours throughout the seasons. The cottage sits in a plot of 0.88 acres and its terraced gardens have been thoughtfully designed to make the most of the entrancing views and natural environment, with plenty of outdoor seating areas. Inside, the property has recently been transformed to provide comfortable, four-bedroom accommodation, which includes a unique and very successful one-bed holiday let. Careful thought has been given to potential future uses, with planning permission in place for a first floor extension to the rear of the property to create a further bedroom with an en-suite (Planning ref: DM/2022/01439, dated 13/12/2022). Alternatively, there could be potential to extend the holiday-let business, subject to planning, by converting a tandem length double garage at the end of the no-through lane and by installing a Shepherds Hut in the grounds to the side of the property. Folly Cottage is situated in the pretty, historic village of Whitebrook, in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a wonderful location for those who enjoy the outdoors. There are plenty of opportunities for walking, climbing, cycling, canoeing, riding or simply enjoying the scenery and wildlife. There are a number of good pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, including Michelin-starred The Whitebrook. On the west (Welsh) side of the River Wye, Whitebrook is mid-way between the village of Tintern, with its renowned Cistercian abbey and the market town of Monmouth (each about 6 miles distant.) Monmouth provides a variety of independent shops, restaurants, tea rooms and coffee shops and has a Lidl, a Waitrose and an M&S Food. The town hosts regular markets and a busy programme of events, boasts good leisure and recreation facilities and nearby world-class golf courses. The cottage is approximately 3.5 miles from Trellech Primary School and Monmouth benefits from well-reputed state schools and the Haberdashers' Monmouth independent boys' and girls' schools. There are further schools in Chepstow, about 11 miles away. From Whitebrook, there is good access to the motorway network, linking to Cardiff, Bristol and the Midlands, making this rural location attractive to commuters. Step inside:- - The beautifully presented cottage has its origins in the 1800s, with later additions. Whilst it has recently undergone a huge transformation, to make best use of the space and adapt it to contemporary living, a host of lovely, historic features have been maintained and restored. The vendors have used reclaimed and repurposed materials to enhance the cottage's rustic appeal, they have been creative with textures and paint effects and they have introduced a trendy, vintage industrial-style twist, complete with modern, high-end fittings. We wanted to create a bespoke, country property, with open-style living. We sought to be sympathetic to the age of the cottage, at the same time introducing modern features. The front door, set to one side of the property, opens to an entrance hall with a useful utility/boot room off. The hallway features original exposed wall timbers and recently-laid Cotswold Stone floor tiles. These tiles continue throughout the ground floor, except in the sitting room, where the flooring is engineered oak. The sitting room, in the oldest part of the cottage has a wealth of lovely, original ceiling beams and a traditional stone-built fireplace, with a stone hearth and an oak beam over. The fireplace features a bread oven and houses a Mors woodburning stove. To one side of the fireplace, the vendors have uncovered the old stone steps which lead up to the first floor principal bedroom. They were a nice little discovery having previously been hidden by a false cupboard. The sitting room, with two windows and a door to the front of the house, is comfortable and full of character. It's my favourite room it feels very different from the rest of the house it's a place to hide away and be cosy. In contrast to the sitting room, the wonderful kitchen/diner, adjacent, has a more contemporary, open plan feel. The kitchen is accessed from the hallway through stunning part-glazed doors, which the vendors discovered in a reclamation yard and restored and reglazed. The bespoke kitchen units have been cleverly created from an assortment of reclaimed furniture, painted in Farrow and Ball Old White and with quartz work surfaces. The central island, a repurposed industrial item, incorporates a hob with an extractor over, an oven and a dishwasher. The stylish sink unit is made from an old Danish baker's workbench and incorporates a double, stainless steel sink. A large wooden dresser has also been repurposed as part of the kitchen and there is a two-oven Aga which runs on LPG. The kitchen features an attractive, working open fireplace, to one side of which there is a recess for a large, upright fridge/freezer (to check included in sale). To the other side is a larder cupboard with a door with a porthole in it. The room includes plenty of space for a dining table and the kitchen/diner is flooded with light from four windows, two to the front and two overlooking the gardens to the side of the cottage. We love the natural view from the large bay window to the side of the house, over the grass bank and the greenery and the rhododendrons and shrubs, say the vendors, adding that there is planning permission to enclose this area with a post and rail fence to create a family-friendly side garden, if required. From the kitchen/diner, French doors open to a paved patio which runs along the front of the cottage, taking full advantage of the views and providing generous space for indoor/outdoor living and entertaining. Back along the hallway from the kitchen there is a ground-floor double bedroom, with an exposed ceiling beam and two windows with window seats overlooking the front of the property. On the opposite side of the hallway, double ledge and brace doors open to a WC with attractive heritage wall tiles and a washstand made from a repurposed dresser base with a circular stone sink on top. The cottage benefits from underfloor heating through the ground floor of the property laid on cotswold stone and able to be controlled via a mobile phone app. From the family bathroom there is a concealed service door to the strikingly presented lettings annexe, which comprises a trendy, industrial-style double bedroom with a space-saving wall bed. The bedroom walls are clad with repurposed timbers from an old gym and the floor boards are also reclaimed. The ensuite is a unique mix of heritage wall tiles, reclaimed wood and galvanised corrugated metal sheets (used for the wall covering) and there is a vintage reclaimed cupboard with a stylish round stone sink atop. There is a large walk-in shower with an electric power shower. The annexe benefits from electric heating run independently from the main house, where the downstairs underfloor heating and upstairs radiators are run by a newly installed LPG boiler. The annexe bedroom has French doors to a private, paved courtyard from which there is a boardwalk leading to a small, detached stone barn. This has been imaginatively converted into a compact kitchen/dining/living space dedicated to the annexe. The green Elfin mini-kitchen, made from stainless steel, includes a dishwasher, sink, microwave, fridge and induction hob. The room is warmed by electric underfloor heating and a small wood burning stove. Glazed doors open to a decked area which enjoys the incredible views and steps lead down to the no through road, providing a private access for guests. The holiday let also has dedicated use of a decked area higher up the garden, from which there are also fantastic views and where there is a wood fired hot bath. The holiday let has operated as a successful Airbnb since February 2023, generating useful additional income. Outside - Folly Cottage is approached up a flight of steps from the no-through road. The steps lead up from the side of an oversized double garage with an electric roller door, designed to accommodate a 4x4. There is a further tandem length double garage situated further up the road, currently used as a workshop. The cottage sits in a terraced plot of 0.88 acres. The enchanting gardens have a natural feel, with plenty of mature shrubs and spring bulbs. There is a large wildlife pond bordered by soft planting and there is a beautiful bank of wildflowers along the front of the property. There are several seating areas to enjoy the breathtaking views across the valley. These include the paved patio which opens from the kitchen and a porcelain-tiled veranda above the double garage, festooned by a flourishing wisteria. A further feature of the garden is an old mill stone, thought to be a relic from the period when, in the mid 1700's, paper mills were the main industry in the area. The gardens have a dog-secure area and the property is surrounded by wonderful dog walks, with the Wye Valley Walk long distance footpath close by. The layout of the farmhouse is derived from a longhouse plan with the well preserved cow house on the other side of the stream of an even earlier date. Material in the National Library references the history of Bryn-y-Cadno back over 400 years and gives good reason to suppose that Bryn y Cadno is medieval in origin. It is conveniently situated for the popular market town of Llandeilo, about 3 miles, where there is a great range of local shops along with primary and secondary schooling. Serving as the heart of the home, the kitchen offers a range of fitted floor and wall units, complemented by a ceramic tiled floor, a two-oven oil-fired Aga, and a traditional ceiling beam .    The secondary entrance hall offers ample opportunity for customisation, with potential for subdivision. Accessed from here are practical amenities including a utility room and ground floor toilet, as well as a study in turn leading to an additional sitting room, which could serve as an AirBnB annex, with sevice provisions understood to be in place for a small corner kitchen. Adjacent to this area is a ground floor bedroom suite comprising a generously sized double bedroom and a spacious wet room equipped with a shower, WC, and wash hand basin. Completing the ground floor level is a garden room with a ceramic tiled floor and French doors leading to the front, offering the possibility of separate access. ..    Access to the first floor is facilitated by two main staircases, with the main landing situated in the older section of the property. The larger of the three bedrooms features its own ensuite bathroom adorned in avocado green, equipped with WC, wash basin, and a panelled bath with shower over. House Rudry (United Kingdom)

Nestled within beautiful, undulating countryside north of Cardiff this renovated dream home offers an idyllic pocket of peace, hidden away on a dead-end lane. The sprawling, stylish home occupies an enviable location, commutable to the capital yet surrounded by easily accessed, stunning countryside bursting with woodland walks, bike and horse trails, and a popular local pub for refreshments along the way. Through the gates reveals a collection of former farm buildings clustered around a private and characterful courtyard. Pushing open the front door of the main house reveals a stylish and contemporary country home offering impressive high-end, luxury design throughout that includes a designer kitchen by Loxleys London. The main house offers four substantial bedroom suites that ooze luxury, with opulent bathrooms and generous spaces that can accommodate lounge areas too. Outside, the grounds of approximately 0.85 acres are surrounded by stunning and sweeping rural views and multiple places to entertain family and friends, or find solitaire and silence in the shade under a tree. There's ample parking for multiple vehicles which is a big bonus as this rural retreat comes with surely the best party facilities in the area within one of the converted barns that is bound to attract regular visits from family and friends. The party barn includes a lounge bar that feels like you've just arrived at an exclusive country club, plus an impressive home cinema, spa that includes a sauna, steam room and a gym, a games room that can easily accommodate a full-size snooker table, plus a kitchen, so it's not too far to cook up a feast or find some snacks for guests. Step Inside:- - Step inside the former farmhouse within this cluster of incredible buildings and a glamorous and contemporary home awaits, having been lavished with a high-end renovation that has established luxury at its core. The first impression is a breathtaking one, with ground floor dividing walls and separate reception rooms a distant memory, as these former spaces have been combined and given a truly modern makeover. Stepping into this now open-plan space you can see through to the garden via picture windows and French doors and this, coupled with layers of thoughtfully designed lighting including hidden LEDs and shiny surfaces that bounce light around, makes the space feel very light, fresh and contemporary. The central staircase is a thing of beauty; a bespoke glass structure that sweeps its way to the first floor with a flourish. The flooring choice is contemporary too, high shine tiling that flows throughout the whole ground floor, unifying the space. To one side of the stunning staircase is a spacious dining zone that is the perfect place for a lively and enjoyable dinner party or family gathering, with ample space for a substantial dining table and the benefit of a set of French doors to throw open in the summer so the party can seamlessly spill out into the garden. The other side of the staircase is another zone focussed on socialising - a lounge area where two massive sofas effortlessly curve around the attractive feature fireplace, with visually pleasing symmetry achieved via a large floor-to-ceiling window either side of the flames. It's a space where winter months are warmed by the fire and summer time sees sunshine and garden views flood in through the picture windows, it's a space that will always be popular for gatherings, whatever the time of day or year. A more intimate reception space awaits off this impressive open-plan area, but it can still happily welcome a huge, squishy sofa for family and friends to sink into together, plus its own set of French doors so garden views and summer breezes can join the group gathering. There's a study at the rear of the house on the way to find the kitchen and it is a perfect place for work, with built-in carpentry promoting perfect organisation of work, and there's even space for yet another good sized sofa. Into the kitchen and the luxury fixtures and fittings continue with the discovery of a high-end, Edwin Loxley of London designer kitchen packed with integrated appliances and connected to the dining area via a set of steps. The cook can be joined for a chat and maybe a few taste tests either at the integrated island unit breakfast bar or in the dining area that includes a sizeable wine fridge. With the bifold doors open in the warmer weather, it's the perfect kitchen diner to cook up a feast connected directly and seamlessly to the garden. Additional accommodation on the ground floor includes a utility space and cloakroom, before the stunning glass staircase beckons so the journey of discovery can continue upstairs. The house used to have six bedrooms but with the remodelling of the home came the creative idea to sacrifice two in order to design four fabulous, spacious and distinct bedroom suites. In three of the bedroom suites the ceilings have been removed to create double-height, vaulted spaces full of charm, with the primary boasting exposed roof beams adding character to this substantial space. The ensuite to this largest of the bedrooms is, of course, glamorous and luxurious - and huge. It is an ensuite that is pure pleasure to visit either for a relaxing soak or refreshing shower, and this five-star hotel standard is repeated in the family bathroom where the bath commands most attention thanks to its size and position on an elevated pli.. It feels so luxurious to step up and then step down into the bath and, if accompanied by bubbles, candles and a glass of something refreshing, is a sumptuous experience that can be enjoyed every day at this property and not just when staying at a posh country hotel. Two of the suites have mezzanine bedroom areas with their own staircase which allows space below for lounge areas and even a semi open-plan ensuite as part of the floorplan. But the main house is not the only area of the property that has received a thoughtful and impressive renovation and conversion, one of the barns nestled around the courtyard has been given a new lease of life as surely the best party barn in the area. The barn is so well-equipped there is no need to ever leave the property for entertainment and fun. For the ultimate group fun the main section of the barn is currently dedicated to a games area that can easily accommodate a full-size snooker table and arcade games. Inside this amazing barn there's an impressive home cinema, complete with big, squishy chairs and dimmed lighting that conjures up a magical and intimate atmosphere as the perfect setting for the audience to be totally immersed in the movie. The barn has its own kitchen too, so it's not far to go to drum up some snacks in time for the film or the start of the match. Also found within the barn, that seems bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside, is a sizeable gym with a wall of mirrors to assist the workout, and after a hard session the spa area looks very welcoming, offering a sauna, steam room, walk-in shower and room for a massage table. The perfect end to the health and spa session is surely a cool drink waiting at the bar. As all good country clubs can boast, this private version has an inviting lounge bar area, nestled under the exposed roof beams on a mezzanine level, creating an intimate atmosphere to this most sociable of spaces. Outside - Step outside to explore the 0.85 acres of land that sweeps around the property before it seamlessly flows into panoramic rural views that expand to the horizon. Behind the gates, off the dead-end lane shared only with one other property that is also a bridleway, there's plenty of onsite parking for all the guests that are sure to turn up regularly to attend memorable events in the party barn. The lawns are extensive and expansive, lined by trees and hedgerows and offering the perfect place for outdoor games, football matches, and sun-drenched picnics, but the property can offer more intimate spaces too. There are house-hugging patios and courtyards that cluster around the house all boasting special and enticing places to admire the view, enjoy company with family and friends, and tuck into an alfresco feast. Within the grounds is a bonus that not many homes can offer - a characterful stone building called Long Barn that already has planning in place to be converted into a four-bed dream home, offering onsite multi-generational living if required. The vendors also advise that there is also the potential for 2 one bed, suites (with sitting room/kitchen bathroom and balcony) above the parking for five vehicles. This additional potential to create an extra dream home (with its own title deed) is being sold separately to the main property for Guide Price £375,000. With permission, the newly finessed barn could even be rented out as a holiday let to make the most of the property's perfect location, close to the capital of Wales and yet feeling like a world away, surrounded by a rolling rural landscape with onsite socialising and relaxation at the heart of this unique luxury home. House Monmouth (United Kingdom)

Surrounded by stunning Wye Valley scenery and its famous undulating landscape, this spacious and welcoming home nestles within four acres of garden and grounds that feels like a secluded sanctuary, yet is only a short walk away from the bustling centre of Monmouth. Paddocks and pastureland are joined by a pond and a charming two-level terrace next to the house that creates the ideal hub for relaxing, alfresco dining and entertaining from day through to night. Surrounded by expansive views of the garden with woodland and hilltops as the backdrop, The Nurseries comes with wonderful equestrian facilities too. A Kingsland barn and outbuilding complex that includes three, lined stables plus power, lights and water, is an inviting new abode for the horses. Inside the sprawling home for the humans there are four double bedrooms, with the principal boasting an impressive suite that is a peaceful sanctuary of built-in wardrobes, doors to the garden, and a vast five-piece ensuite that includes a double shower. There's a spacious living room that can boast its own garden doors, as well as a feature fireplace creating a cosy winter evening cocoon, while the adjacent kitchen diner is a vast and sociable space that flows into a conservatory cloaked in glass and garden vistas on three sides. Add a utility room, family bathroom and cloakroom and this impressive, much-loved home is a practical abode for families and perfect for people who love to entertain. For buyers who are looking for seclusion combined with the convenience of being near amenities this well-placed home is ideal. All the shops, eateries and facilities of Monmouth's thriving centre are just a walk away, as are some of the county's top performing schools, with the captivating Wye Valley literally on the doorstep in the other direction. Strolls through enchanting woodland and picnics on the river bank, as well as exhilarating river-based activities, are all within easy reach of this ideally placed home. If work takes you further afield, or there's the urge to explore the surrounding countryside even further, the town has the easiest of access onto the A40 and M50 leading to Cardiff, Bristol and M4 to the south and Birmingham to the north. But this welcoming house, with its enchanting garden and happy home for the horses too, will always be a joyful place to come back to. Step Inside:- - Step inside this attractive home and you are instantly greeted with light, space and a contemporary ambience that effortlessly flows through every room, joined by captivating views of the garden and the Wye Valley beyond. The hallway sets the inviting tone, with soft, nature-inspired shades complemented by the visually warming oak wood floor and masses of light cascading down into the space from multiple roof windows. It's a warm welcome that easily tempts you further inside to explore. From the central hall of this substantial home there's access firstly to four bedrooms and a family bathroom. All the slumber spaces are doubles and all have built-in wardrobes and their own special vista of the tranquil gardens and landscape outside, but the principal can boast a suite that is most impressive. A range of built-in wardrobes offers a place for everything so clutter is banished from this calm and peaceful space. The advantage of being a single-storey dwelling is utilised to the maximum with a set of sliding doors at the end of the room leading to the enchanting garden. Imagine waking up to the sound of birdsong and gentle summer breezes wafting in through the open door, then wandering out for a lazy Sunday brunch surrounded by the views, away from the busier areas of this spacious home. The private sanctuary continues through an archway that leads down into the principal bedroom's five-piece ensuite, boasting a sizeable double, walk-in shower and maybe the most restful spot in the house - a large bath full of bubbles ready to wash away stress and revive tired muscles at the end of a busy day. Next to discover along the hallway is a spacious and enticing lounge that is a fabulous room for socialising. There's ample space for numerous squashy sofas and sizeable armchairs to cluster around the fireplace during the winter months for watching movies and football matches together as a family or for inviting a gaggle of friends over for endless hours of chatting, while in the summer you can slide the garden doors open and the party can seamlessly spill out into the garden. But the sizeable lounge is not the largest social space within this well-designed home, as the adjacent kitchen diner is even bigger and, leading to a light-filled conservatory, is the perfect place for cooking up a feast within the well-equipped kitchen, enjoying a meal together at the large table, and then relaxing in the conservatory totally enveloped by garden views. From hasty homework completed at the table to dinner parties with friends filled with laughter, and everything in-between, the kitchen diner can happily welcome it all as the beating heart of this much-loved home. There's a separate and sizeable utility room, spacious four-piece family bathroom and bonus cloakroom that completes the layout of this beguiling home. But it's the conservatory at the very end of the floorplan that is the space that is maybe the most tempting, cocooned in glass on three-sides creating a panoramic and peaceful, nature-filled view that will always take your breath away, whatever the weather. Vendor Insight:- - We were looking for a home in a good location with equestrian facilities onsite where we could keep our horses. We wanted easy access to amenities and schools, so we were excited to find that The Nurseries ticked all our boxes. Our children could walk to school by themselves and it's hard to believe that we're only a mile from the centre of Monmouth as it's so peaceful and quiet, say the owners. Monmouth is a lovely place to live with a welcoming and friendly community. There are two theatres and plenty of restaurants and pubs within walking distance which makes for a fun evening out before the short walk home. The location can't be beaten for outdoor activities, most of which can be accessed straight from the property, including mountain biking, woodland walks, riverside strolls, hacking, cycling, shooting, open water swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, cricket, rugby, and football; you name it, it's here! The property is perfect for entertaining as we're not overlooked and have no near neighbours. The wraparound garden has different spots where we can sit and relax, such as the large BBQ area which is bathed in sun all day before giving way to the most stunning sunsets and there's nowhere better for breakfast in the sunshine. The garden and grounds are home to a wide range of wildlife and birds, including rabbits, squirrels, owls, woodpeckers, kingfishers, songbirds, and pairs of mallard and mandarin ducks who come back every year to breed. We tend to spend most of our time in the kitchen as it's a very sociable space. It's an enjoyable place to cook as there are views over the paddocks and our friends and family tend to gather round the table to chat and catch up. The lounge is the place to be in the winter as the open fire adds to the cosy ambience, and we also really like the master bedroom and huge ensuite. The house is always toasty warm as it heats up quickly and efficiently. We have upgraded the property and outside space during our time here which has included decorating throughout and replacing the family bathroom. Fencing has been added to the perimeter of the grounds and considerable work has taken place to assist with the upkeep which has kept the weeds down and the grass growing nicely. The outbuilding has been creosoted and we've also levelled one of the paddocks which can be used as an arena. Outside - Step outside into a substantial four-acre garden that is an enchanting parcel of peace surrounded by mature trees and mesmerising Wye Valley views that expand to the hills on the horizon. The grounds include a wooded brook and also the river bank of the River Wye down to the waters edge. A sun-drenched terrace overlooking the garden and paddocks easily entices you out with a morning coffee accompanied by birdsong and can happily host large gatherings of family and friends, from alfresco dining to summer BBQs. It's also the perfect place to spend a quiet evening watching the sky turn from day to night surrounded by nature and seclusion within this idyllic slice of Monmouthshire to call your own that includes a pond, pasture land and paddocks. The horses will be happy here too, with equestrian facilities including an attractive Kingsland stable block and barn complex within the grounds. This impressive outbuilding is a practical addition to the home, offering light, power and water plus barns either side of the visually appealing archway boasting envious amounts of storage. There are currently three, lined stables that cluster around the courtyard, one of which could easily be used as a secure tack room, plus the storage barns also have potential to accommodate more stabling. There's plenty of space to park horse boxes and multiple vehicles at the end of the private driveway plus an abundance of land to grow your own produce and make the land work hard for you. The paddocks and garden lawns are a magical children's playground for family buyers that can easily accommodate football matches and play equipment and there's ample space to add a swimming pool too at this flat site. But the terrace will always call you back to watch the horses frolic in your own fields while you relax in peace and privacy away from the busy town, enveloped within your own idyllic world, or a tranquil stroll along the Wye's riverbank surrounded by this famous 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and all nature and wildlife it offers. House Caldicot (United Kingdom)

This charming four-bedroom cottage fuses cosy, historic character with stunning, contemporary living spaces and combines the convenience of an edge-of-town location with a private parkland-style setting and the enduring appeal of open views over the lovely south Monmouthshire countryside. I love sunsets and we have the most amazing sunsets here and wonderful skies, because it is flat and open. I have a table and chairs in the front garden, where I can sit in the afternoon and evening, looking over the farmers' fields to the west, just enjoying the skies. Fairfield sits in immaculately-kept, mature grounds of approximately 2 acres which include stables and a stable yard with independent access. There are also three substantial outbuildings, with current business use but with flexibility to be used for leisure purposes, separate home working space or, with planning permission, converted into further accommodation. Ideal for country-lovers who want the best of both worlds, the property is convenient to the motorway network and to nearby amenities. It is situated on the outskirts of Magor, a lively, welcoming and family-friendly community, roughly equidistant between the market town of Chepstow and the city of Newport (9 miles). Proximity to the M4 means for commuting, shopping, leisure and entertainment, there is easy access to other nearby towns and cities such as Cardiff, Bristol, Monmouth and Abergavenny. At the heart of Magor, an historic square is filled with a variety of independent shops, including a delicatessen which also sells fresh fruit and veg. The town boasts a local Post Office, a handy convenience store and a number of lovely cafes, pubs, restaurants and takeaways. The community is served by a Church in Wales Primary School, whilst Undy Primary School and Bryn Primary School are other nearby options and for secondary education, there is the well-regarded Caldicot School. In an area that has a wealth of interesting local history and easy access to beautiful countryside, Fairfield is close to the Severn Estuary, on the Gwent Levels. This landscape of international significance is home to a great diversity of wildlife and Magor Marsh, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is a tranquil environment teeming with wildfowl and fauna. Step inside:- - Dating from the early 1900s, the cottage was extended some 70 years later and has recently been modernised and upgraded, to provide lovely, open-plan living space, carefully planned to create a seamless flow from traditional to modern. Exposed timbers, original stone walls and an open fireplace with a wood burning stove on a flagstone hearth give the characterful living room a wonderful, warm ambience, which contrasts with the feel of the beautifully presented, light and airy contemporary kitchen which it opens into. Once separated by a dividing wall, these two rooms now provide one wow space. Says the vendor: Where we once had small, dark rooms, we now have space suitable for 21st Century living. The vendors have recently installed the stunning, modern kitchen, with its comprehensive range of units and wood effect laminate flooring, chosen for practicality. I opted for country-style units to suit the property and planned lots of workspace as I like to cook. We have a big family and when we get together they always come to us. The kitchen has a large central island, incorporating a breakfast bar and the room also has ample space for a separate dining table. The kitchen incorporates integrated appliances and a Range cooker (with LPG gas hob and electric double oven). The kitchen is flooded with natural light, being open plan to a handy utility room which leads straight through to a sun room, with glazed doors to a charming rear courtyard, perfect for dining al fresco. The neatly-presented utility room, with units to match the kitchen, includes space and plumbing for a washing machine and built-in space for an upright fridge/freezer. From the kitchen, there is a doorway to a rear hallway which leads through to a comfortable lounge. Like the living room, this is situated in the oldest part of the house and it is full of character, with an exposed original stone wall featuring an inset fireplace on a raised hearth (not a working fireplace) and a stone-built corner seat. The lounge has a window to the side garden. It is a lovely, comfortable room. It gets the sun first thing in the morning and it very light and warm. Next to the lounge is one of the vendor's favourite rooms a spacious games room with an in-built bar and sliding doors to the rear garden. It's a great family party room and we have had some really fun times in it, including birthdays, Christmases, christenings and even a fancy dress event. Off the rear hallway, there is also a is a fully-tiled downstairs shower room, refitted during the property's recent refurbishment, when the vendors also installed stylish grey traditional column radiators throughout the ground floor. From the rear hallway a pair of glazed doors gives access to the rear courtyard and stairs lead up to the first floor, where there are four bedrooms, including one with an ensuite bathroom and built-in wardrobes and another which also benefits from fitted wardrobes. The master bedroom, which overlooks the front garden, has fitted wardrobes, built-in shelving and a spacious and luxurious en-suite bathroom with a whirlpool bath in one corner and a large walk-in shower in another. Off the landing there is a handy storage cupboard. Back on the ground floor, what was once a double garage has been converted into two further rooms, which could be used as a study and further reception room. The flexible space, accessed through the sun room but also with independent access from the front of the cottage, could alternatively be returned to a garage or converted to provide a ground floor bedroom or annexe accommodation. Outside - From the road, a pair of five bar gates open to an impressive gravelled driveway, which leads up to the front of the cottage and around to the side, where there is ample parking. Either side of the driveway, large level lawns planted with mature trees, including 50-year-old willows, give a parkland feel. Spring bulbs planted along the fence line at the front of the properly are a mass of seasonal colour. At the rear of the cottage, opening from the sun room, is a lovely, sheltered and secluded courtyard area, where pretty climbing plants clamber over a wooden pergola. The courtyard, laid with pavers in a circular pattern, makes a wonderful spot for outdoor entertaining. Past a garden shed in one corner of the courtyard, steps lead up to a vegetable garden, with two raised beds and a greenhouse. The gardens and grounds also include an orchard with a variety of fruit trees. Fairfield enjoys a beautiful level position, extending to approximately 2 acres and also including a stable yard, with wooden stables with three loose boxes, with independent access through a five bar gate directly from the road. Further, substantial buildings, all with business use granted, comprise a brick-built, L-shaped building (which could provide further stabling) and two further single-storey blocks. Step inside this cosy yet spacious room and you'll be enveloped in features to adore, from the original floor below to the exposed beams above. In the corner the original stone staircase curves around the corner, tempting you to explore upstairs, but there's much to enjoy on the ground floor first. The stand out feature of the living room is surely the massive inglenook fireplace, complete with bread oven, that is so sizeable you can sit inside to warm your cold winter toes to the maximum next to the robust log burner that sits pride of place on a stone hearth. An abundance of comfy armchairs and squishy sofas can cluster around this incredible feature to share social gatherings. It's the place to effortlessly make memories that last for a lifetime as the chat and laughter continues long after the dying embers of the fire. Into the kitchen and it's a successful combination of timeless and tasteful design, soft countryside inspired shades, and hidden modern appliances, creating the perfect farmhouse kitchen for now and into the future. The cook will be in their element, with an Aga to support their feast creation, an abundance of oak worksurfaces, oodles of storage across the bespoke, oak kitchen units, plus a kitchen island as well as a feature much-hoped for by many buyers - a separate pantry. The kitchen is the heart of this lovely home, with the cook being kept company via the spacious, open-plan dining room in the added side extension. This bonus area also boast large French doors to the front terrace and those absorbing rural views, a seamless connection inside to outside that adds to this kitchen diner social hub. If you're working or quietly reading in the study, as well as being joined by mesmerising country views, you are cocooned in history as you work within this distinctive space once being used as a milking parlour. The house is as versatile as it is beautiful, with this third reception space easily able to adapt to a different function, such as a fifth bedroom. Throughout the house the current owners have spent 10 years creating the perfect balance of old and new and seamless flow between spaces supported by their chosen decor - natural materials such as wood, rattan, leather and stone, soft textures, fresh white walls mixed with gentle shades of grey. This attention to detail continues up the stairs to the first floor via either the original stone steps in the lounge or the more recent oak staircase in the large and spacious central hallway, where you will also find a handy cloakroom. The principal bedroom is an idyllic sanctuary, a double-height space that boasts exposed beams, and light and views cascading in through three windows as a gentle wake-up call every morning before stumbling into the luxury ensuite. There are four bedrooms, two ensuites and a family bathroom on this upper floor and all have been given care and thought when being renovated to produce spaces that can all boast their own character and personality, with the stunning views as a constant at each window. The bathroom is the perfect place where the owners' careful mix of old and new is in beautiful evidence - new oak flooring is crowned by a restored, roll-top bath dating back to the 1900s. Outside - Step outside into the surrounding 6.5 acres of land that begin with a long and winding driveway off the quiet country lane to the truly private handsome house that nestles into the undulating landscape. From the home's elevated position, the panoramic views are beautiful, cocooning the home in the most stunning of peaceful locations. There are terraces that hug the house as the hubs of any garden party, family BBQ or alfresco dining gathering, with the expansive view a constant and welcome member of the group, providing the most absorbing of backdrops. From a relaxed morning coffee listening to the soundtrack of birdsong right through to a late night drink under a starry, inky sky, the immediate garden is truly special, with the hot tub under a pergola is surely a popular spot with everyone, any time of the day or night or in any weather. But there is so much more to explore outside at this fabulous family home, and it includes impressive equestrian facilities that ensure the horses, as well as the humans, will be happy living there. There are approximately 6.5 acres of land, with the option of renting another 6.5, that boasts a 20m x 40m floodlit all-weather manège that has the most incredible, far-reaching views towards the Vale of Glamorgan. More exploring reveals 10 stables, with some currently being used as workshops, plus a range of paddocks and ample parking options for many guests as well as a multitude of vehicles including horseboxes, trailers and even lorries. Pathways and bridleways in the area provide enticing trips out into the beautiful countryside that cloaks the area in foliage, ancient woodland and a patchwork of fields. Back at the house, there are more options to develop the site even further via the stables and outbuildings, maybe even converting them into an extra dwelling, subject to planning consent. Alternatively, forget renovating work and grab a garden chair and a drink and immerse yourself in this truly idyllic location at this most amazing of country homes. House Saint Arvans (United Kingdom)

This magnificent, Grade II listed family home sits in private, part-walled gardens in a Conservation Area at the historic heart of the desirable village of St Arvans, at the gateway to the beautiful Wye Valley. St Arvans Court is an attractive and exceptionally well-presented property, which benefits from three elegant reception rooms, a large, recently fitted family kitchen with a charming breakfast/dining area, seven bedrooms, a home office and a gym with a sauna. The historic house is thought to be Jacobean in origin, with an imposing Georgian addition at the front. It is remarkable for its lovely period features, which include a balcony along the full length of the back of the house and a unique circular sitting room at the front. Other classic detailing includes dado rails, cornicing, some original shutters, some pretty cast iron bedroom fireplaces and traditional cast iron radiators. Charming traditional features in the oldest part of the property include an open stone fireplace and exposed beams. The lovely property has been home to the vendors for the past 25 years and in that time they have lovingly refurbished, modernised and maintained it. It's a special house and has made an absolutely perfect family home. It is peaceful and has a real warmth about it. When we first viewed it, the children loved it, particularly the two attic bedrooms, which they claimed as theirs. The vendors were also attracted to the area, which is very popular with families. St. Arvans is a charming village, situated in the Lower Wye Valley, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife, it's a good base for those who enjoy walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. It's also a friendly place with a strong sense of community. The Memorial Hall hosts a busy calendar of events and village facilities include a pub, church, day nursery and two playing fields. Only two miles away, in Chepstow, there are schools, further leisure facilities, a range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, supermarkets and an M&S Foodhall. This lovely ancient market town is the site of Chepstow Castle, reputedly the earliest stone-built Norman stronghold. Chepstow racecourse is within walking distance of St Arvans and there are golf and leisure facilities at nearby St Pierre Golf & Country Club. From the village, it's only three and a half miles to the Severn Bridge and to the motorway network, bringing Bristol, Newport and Cardiff within easy reach. There are regular trains to London from Bristol Parkway and international flights from Bristol and Cardiff airports. Step Inside:- - The house is rendered and painted, with Welsh slate roofs. It has an attractive, symmetrical facade with sash windows with decorative dripmoulds over. There is a grand, central entrance porch with a front door with pretty leaded panes set below a leaded fanlight. The welcoming entrance hallway has tessellated tiled flooring and an attractive ceiling arch. Solid wood doors open from either side of the hallway to the two elegant, high ceilinged reception rooms which both have sash windows (with their original shutters) overlooking the front of the property. One of these rooms is the gorgeous, circular sitting room, which has two large alcoves either side of an attractive fireplace, housing a wood burning stove. The round room is my favourite place in the winter because it is so cosy and tranquil in there. It is a perfect place to cuddle up on the sofa in front of the log burner. Across the hallway, the second reception room, used as a formal dining room, is perfect for dinner parties and Christmas entertaining. In a similar style to the sitting room, at one end of the room there are two large alcoves with decorative plasterwork in a semi-circular wall, framing a feature fireplace. One alcove houses a purpose-built dresser. In the other there is an intriguing, revolving dumb waiter, which connects with the kitchen. I can't say we have ever used it but it is an unusual feature to have! The kitchen/breakfast room is in the original Jacobean part of the house, at the back of the property, where lower, beamed ceilings lend the rooms traditional character and charm. The stylish, recently refitted kitchen features a range of contemporary, pebble grey units, quartz worksurfaces, splashbacks and upstands, Mandarin Stone porcelain floor tiles and a traditional Belfast sink. The well-planned kitchen includes a large island, plenty of cupboard and drawer space, a comprehensive range of inbuilt appliances and a large larder cupboard. There is a two-oven, oil-fired Aga as well as a separate cooker and hob. A door from the kitchen opens to a side porch which leads to a patio at the side of the house, used for outdoor dining and entertaining. The kitchen leads through to a large breakfast/dining area with three exposed ceiling beams and an impressive stone fireplace, with an oak beam over, housing a huge wood burning stove on a flagstone hearth. With the Aga at one end and the big log burner at the other, this room is really warm and cosy. From the breakfast/dining area, there is a door to the back garden and to one side of the fireplace, five steps lead up to a fitted utility room, with a Belfast sink, space and plumbing for a washing machine and space for a tumble dryer. This room is in a modern, single storey extension at the side of the house, which could be converted into an annexe if required. A door from the utility room leads through to a study/home office with a large window overlooking the garden as well as a door to the outside. I chose this as my home office because it is quiet and away from the main house and it was an ideal place to work from home, without being disturbed. Beyond the study is a home gym with a sauna, whilst in this extension there is also an integrated single garage, with a courtesy door into the utility room. The downstairs accommodation is completed by a WC situated off the porch to the side of the kitchen. From the entrance hallway a Georgian staircase with turned spindles and a mahogany handrail leads up to a first-floor family living room, which has two sets of French doors to the balcony running along the back of the house. On warm evenings, it is lovely to throw them open to the balcony it brings the outside in. The room has traditional oak flooring and a fireplace with a decorative wood surround housing a wood burning stove. There are also three bedrooms on this floor, including the principal suite, a light and airy space with two sash windows to the front of the property and an arched window to the side. There's a dressing area and a modern ensuite with a contemporary free-standing bath and a steam shower. Also overlooking the front of the house is a double guest bedroom which features a charming cast iron fireplace. At the back of the house, with French doors to the balcony, there is a further double bedroom which has a door to the Jack and Jill family bathroom, also accessible from the hallway. Stairs lead up to a second floor, where, on a half landing, there is a door to a two-bedroom, self-contained apartment, which has its own private access up a metal staircase from the outside. Ideal as separate space for grandparents or grown-up children, the vendors have mainly used it as part of their main accommodation. It was useful having two kitchens when the children were teenagers and entertaining their friends. The stairs lead on up to the two delightful double bedrooms in the attic, both with the A-frame exposed. These are the rooms the children fell in love with. One room has a charming curved window and a door to ample hanging and storage space in the eaves. The other has a porthole window. The rooms share a modern bathroom. Running underneath the front of the house, accessed from the garden or from steps down from the breakfast area, here is a barrel-roofed cellar with a flagstone floor, used for storage. Outside - The house stands in gardens of 0.80 acres, enclosed by an old stone wall on three sides and a tall hedge on the other, providing privacy. One of the beauties of the house is that it is in the village, with houses all around, but it is private and quite quiet. The property is accessed through a pair of wooden gates set in the stone wall. A driveway leads to ample parking in front of the property and then on round to the single garage at the side of the house. There is a mature Wellingtonia at the front of the house and a recently planted rare deciduous Sequoia. There is a large area of lawn at the back of the house and a sheltered patio to one side, perfect for summer barbeques and for a hot tub. An arbour half way up the garden is a lovely place to enjoy the last of the sun. A lavender bed borders a flagstone area under the balcony. An area of garden at the side of the property has been fenced off and contains a raised vegetable bed. It's a perfect-sized garden, completely safe for the dogs. When the children were growing up, the house was always full of their friends. It was fantastic for parties and the garden was a magnet for them all. House Dinas Powys (United Kingdom)

Fine & Country Cardiff are pleased to present to the market this charming six-bedroom cottage located in the highly sought after village of Dinas Powys. Old Mill Farmhouse is a beautiful character cottage that dates back to the 1400s, retaining many original features such as Inglenook fire place, bread oven and exposed beams. The property has been lovingly restored over the years by its current owners, who have enjoyed the property as their family home for many years, read their comments below: Seller Insight: - When we first saw Old Mill Farmhouse it struck us as an ideal oasis. It is completely private and secluded, yet it is in the heart of the village, close to the village square, with the ruins of a Norman castle just at the top of the garden. No-one quite knew the house was there and we later found out that when it went on the market, there were two open days when almost the whole village went to view it out of curiosity! We believe it is one of the oldest houses in Dinas Powys, built as a farmhouse to the mill next door in 1460 and mentioned in a will in 1533. We think it was extended in the 1830s and when we came across it, it had the appearance of a typical country cottage. We bought it in 1987, inheriting with it a cat, Tudor, who didn't want to move away. Then the work really started. It was unlived in, very ramshackle and with an overgrown garden. We set about the renovations one room at a time and really put heart and soul into the house. Because of its history, the house has some lovely features. Some of our favourites are the beamed ceiling in the dining room and the exposed natural stone fireplaces. We love the downstairs lounge where there's an original inglenook fireplace with a bread oven to one side and a little salt drying shelf the other. The alcove beside the fireplace had a curved wall from the original 15th century staircase leading to the upstairs. In the oldest part of the house, the walls are at least two feet thick, so in the summer, it is beautifully cool but in winter the walls provide great insulation and, with the log burner going, it is very cosy. Recently we took up the carpets in the downstairs lounge, hall and dining room and revealed the old flooring quarry tiles, boarding and some really ancient tiles, which could be original to the property. In 1999 we commenced an extension, using a local architect and local builders. We tried to make it in keeping with the theme of a Welsh longhouse so we built into the bank and carried on the line of the roof. It has given us so much extra space and light and a second staircase which has improved the flow of the house. We had a great Millennium party there, before the oak floor was fitted. We left the tinsel and confetti with the date 2000 on it under the flooring and there is a time capsule buried in one of the walls. The new, top lounge is perfect for us all to gather together as a family. It is a really lovely, sunny, bright and airy room with recently replaced bifold doors out to the patio. It's a lovely house for entertaining, which we used to do fairly often for birthdays and anniversaries, with 40 to 50 people in attendance. It was ideal, with the big new lounge upstairs and the other, cosier rooms. It was great for kids' and adults' parties there was always plenty of space. The garden is pretty special. It is a country-style garden, very secluded, with well-established trees and shrubs, mature apple and cherry trees and lots of fruit bushes. We even once had a vegetable patch. The different levels make it interesting and we have our own patch of woodland which is carpeted with daffodils, wild garlic and bluebells, depending on the season. It feels as if you are in the middle of the countryside. At the top of the garden there is room for a lovely summer house or home office, although there are enough rooms in the house to provide work from home space as well. The house faces south and in fine weather it is baked in sun most of the day. Quite often when we came home from work we would sit on the top patio by the pond and waterfall and catch the late afternoon and early evening sun. But because of the apple and cherry trees, there is always shade if you need it. * These comments are the personal views of the current owners and are included as an insight into life at the property. They have not been independently verified, should not be relied on without verification and do not necessarily reflect the views of the agent. Accommodation summary: - As you approach Old Mill Farmhouse from Lettons Way it would be easy to miss the property as it is tucked away in its own private spot. There is a set of steps that lead up alongside a sweeping driveway surrounded by trees, you will spot the sign at the bottom that displays the house name, which is about the only giveaway that there is a house located above. It is surprising that such a secluded property set in such a quiet spot could be so conveniently located for village life, this home really does offer the best of both worlds. Dinas Powys is a highly sought after residential area, offering fantastic schools, great village pubs, train station and easy access to the motorways. The accommodation offers, entrance hallway, three reception rooms, conservatory, study, boot room, cloakroom, kitchen/breakfast room, six bedrooms and a sizeable plot to the front and side of the property along with ample parking for 4/5 vehicles. The property would suit a range of buyers especially young families due to the excellent schooling facilities, and so much to do within close range of the property, from renowned walking trails, blue flag beaches, fashionable shopping, local amenities, Cardiff city centre only 4 miles away and the Brecon Beacons National Park less than an hour away there is plenty on offer to enjoy. There are exposed stone walls, fireplaces, window shutters, wooden beams and delightful wallpaper. The handsome home's charming Georgian facade and impressive columned entrance leading to a large black front door is a mesmerising first impression that ignites anticipation, and the inside completely satisfies the high expectations the outside sets. Home to countless memorable dinner parties, family meals, and special Christmas dinners, the room can easily welcome a large dining table as well as a cosy seating area nestled next to the fire. Next door, an inviting morning room is the first of a trio of reception rooms to explore that all look out over the garden. This cosy space showcases more wall panelling, wooden floors, plus original window shutters, and there's a log burner as the focal point of a winter's evening chatting with family and friends in this intimate atmosphere. Further down the hall is a very generous drawing room decorated to a luxury standard that oozes sophistication. Back into the inner hall and through a delightful breakfast area boasting a built-in Welsh dresser and you'll find an exposed stone doorway into the stunning kitchen. Everything brought into the property to create this astonishing dream home has been chosen with care and this is very evident in the kitchen, where the bespoke joinery of the luxury handmade units in solid oak is of the highest level of craftsmanship. There are granite worksurfaces, a porcelain twin sink, hot water tap, built-in appliances, a Rangemaster induction hob and extractor hood, plus double oven and warming trays, all cloaked in tasteful neutral decor and crowned with an original oak beam which was reclaimed from one of the ceiling beams. Next to a cloakroom there's a door that forces you to make a decision about the east wing of the house. Keep the door open and connected to the house or close it to create a self-contained annexe that boasts its own character as well as the option for multi-generational living. The east wing has a gorgeous open-plan kitchen dining and living space that combines wood flooring with original beams and a log burning inglenook fireplace on the ground floor all with underfloor heating. The potential annexe has its own staircase leading to two bedrooms, one with an ensuite, and a family bathroom with a beautiful exposed stone feature wall and traditional roll-top bath. Back into the main section of the house to climb the main staircase to explore four more beautiful bedrooms that continue the theme of luxury combined with character, from exposed stone walls to numerous fancy fireplaces. The principal bedroom suite is located above the formal morning room, meaning it can enjoy the benefit of an impressive bay window too, with a trio of large windows offering three absorbing views of the garden directly from the pillow. The elegant fireplace offers more character while the space flows through a charming arch into a magnificent dressing room with built-in wardrobes that leads into an ensuite with double walk-in shower and his and her sinks. There are another five bedrooms on this floor, two potentially allocated to the east wing annexe, and all of them are gorgeous slumber spaces that each have their own interior story to tell. One bedroom has panelling, continuing the trend from the ground floor although this room can boast it on the ceiling too, and two have tactile exposed stone feature walls. There's even a bedroom that can shout about its well-preserved vintage wallpaper, perfectly illustrating how this house has been lovingly renovated, combining character and history with modern, sophisticated living to create a truly exceptional home. Vendor insight:- - Llwynhelig House is 700 years old and can only be described as glorious as the front is draped in delightful wisteria that has been there for over 125 years. The property is full of wonderful features, including original fireplaces and shutters in several of the rooms, say the owner. I think the best thing though has to be the warm ambience that embraces all who enter and it was one of the first things that I noticed. It has the most welcoming atmosphere and visitors always say that it's such a happy house. It's perfect for day-to-day family life and entertaining as there's plenty of space for us all to be together and space to retreat to when in need of some peace and quiet. The stunning Vale of Glamorgan is ideal for long walks and we're within easy reach of several seaside resorts and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The town of Llwynhelig and its independent shops are an absolute delight and we're close to Cardiff and Swansea where we can access a wide range of amenities. The grounds here are magnificent and well-maintained by our gardeners who do fantastic jobs keeping it all looking splendid, whilst being as eco-friendly as possible. The fully enclosed garden is very private so we can relax and enjoy all it has to offer, including the heated swimming pool that is such a luxurious treat to use all year round. There are at least six different seating areas where we can sit with a cold drink and take in the views, including sheep and lambs in the fields. We've lived here for 11 fabulous years and have hosted several charity dinners in the formal dining room and I always enjoy afternoon tea with my friends in the garden. It's a peaceful home with tranquil views from the drawing room, whilst the morning room is the best place to enjoy a coffee and feel at one with the garden. My bedroom is simply outstanding with a dressing room, bay window, and comfortable sofa where I sit with a cup of tea looking out over the grounds. It has taken us nearly 10 years to complete a full renovation where we have enhanced and reinstated the original features wherever possible, including exposed stone walls and wooden panelling. It's all ready and waiting for the new owners to walk in and make their own. Outside - Step outside into the tranquil landscaped gardens of about 1.5 acres that cocoon this beautiful home, to find lawns and mature trees and shrubs cloaking the substantial plot in peace and seclusion. But this outdoor sanctuary can also boast fabulous areas to socialise and make incredible lifelong memories with family and friends, with an enviable number of sun-drenched patios to choose from. The heated outdoor pool is a magnet for gatherings and for fun in the sun, but also for serious swimming as a refreshing start to the day, or a place to find peace as the sun sets and you sip a late-night cocktail. With the newly extensive lighting system this creates a romantic ambience that will take you well into the evening. House Pentyrch (United Kingdom)

Located along a quiet, leafy country lane surrounded by stunning scenery on the edge of a pretty and popular rural village easily commutable to Cardiff is this historic dream home that offers an abundance of character complemented by high-end luxury. Called Pentwyn House, the five-bedroom property is thought to date back to the 1600s at its core and can impress with a wealth of period charm through the ages, from feature fireplaces to wall panelling, flagstone flooring and ceiling beams. Although not listed the house has been handled with care and lavished with exquisite interiors that include hand-printed wallpaper, bespoke joinery, and designer pieces. On the ground floor the five reception rooms each have unique features but all will entice you in with an inviting ambience. The bay room boasts a sizeable bay window as the perfect place for a grand piano, the formal dining room effortlessly plays host to parties, the garden room has mesmerising views on three sides and the lounge oozes sophistication. The kitchen diner is a breathtaking space and a cook's dream, with masses of space, storage and appliances hiding behind handmade carpentry, and a deep plum coloured Aga taking visual centre stage. There's easily enough space for a large dining area as the room expands into an orangery and then out into the garden via bifold doors. Add a spacious study with bespoke storage, an entrance hall easily large enough to be home to a period fireplace and seating area, a utility room, and two cloakrooms, and the ground floor can clearly be called comprehensive, sociable and practical, as well as super stylish. Upstairs there are six bathrooms and five bedrooms that includes a principal bedroom with an abundance of built-in storage, a dedicated ensuite bathroom and a dressing room that could easily be a sixth bedroom, if required. Outside the idyllic, landscaped garden cocoons the home in a myriad of foliage, tiers of immaculate lawns, sun-drenched terraces and patios, and a captivating rural view that expands to the horizon. There are bonus buildings out here too; a pair of barns with the largest already semi-converted to provide a self-contained flat and well-used games room, plus the opportunity to transform more space into more accommodation, if planning permission allows. The house is nestled into the undulating landscape on the edge of the village of Pentyrch, just a few miles north of Cardiff. This popular village can offer a range of activities including cricket, rugby, football, and bowls clubs and children's play area, as well as the pretty church of St Catwg's, the King's Arms pub, and a war memorial and village green nestled within the heart of the community. Cardiff, boasting a substantial range of shopping and socialising opportunities, is just a short journey by car or bus, making the village a very popular commuter spot with workers based in the capital. Further afield the coastline is within driving distance, and the M4 is just a few miles away offering easy access to south Wales, Bristol and beyond, or catch a train on the UK's mainline railway network in Cardiff. But coming home to this unique house will always be returning to a unique gem that stands out amongst period properties that line the village's country lanes. No wonder Tom Jones once knocked on the door and offered to buy the property for his wife - that is unusual but totally understandable. STEP INSIDE:- - Step inside this welcoming period property to be enthralled by room after room of captivating character, sophisticated decor and a tasteful renovation that has effortlessly blended heritage features with a luxury and modern way of living. Although not listed, the house is thought to date back to the 1600s and has a wealth of period highlights dating back through the centuries to admire. The entrance hall provides a grand but inviting first impression with the beautifully carved staircase complemented by the Minton floor tiles and original flagstones, period fireplace, and oak wall panelling. Meandering to the right gets you into the four of the five reception rooms. The dining room is a beautifully decorated space to host intimate dinner parties by the open fireplace, rowdy family meals, and the perfect Christmas dinner, cocooned by sumptuous wallpaper with the ambience enhanced by designer Anthony Redmile light fittings. Into the bay room opposite and this space is an absolute joy to visit, with cascades of light rolling in through the substantial bay window - the perfect place for a grand piano to entertain guests after dinner. Travel down the inner hallway to explore a stunning drawing room where more luxury can be admired, from the soft velvet sofas that are forever inviting and urging you to relax and linger with friends in this social space, to the hand printed wallpaper. From this most comfortable of spaces a door provides access to a glorious garden room at the far end of the house. This light-drenched space can boast three sides of garden and countryside views from the comfortable seating area and is a popular place to gather for afternoon tea or relaxing evening drinks, with the sets of French doors flung open so refreshing breezes can join the group. From the entrance hall, or via the dining room, you will find the kitchen diner and it is definitely worth the wait. It's an incredible space that combines a high-end, handcrafted bespoke kitchen with an informal dining area found within an added orangery and a wall of glass bifold doors that provide a seamless path out to the garden terrace. The deep plum toned Aga provides a fabulous focal point that beautifully complements the solid oak kitchen carpentry - a winning combination that is visually breathtaking and crowned by granite worktops and handmade shelving. Any cook will be truly content in this well-equipped kitchen, able to create culinary masterpieces while chatting with family or friends who eagerly wait at the dining table. Even the smallest of rooms within this immaculate dream home are lavished with luxury including one of the two cloakrooms boasting Parisian antique light fittings. There's a sizeable study with bespoke storage and a sizeable utility room to complete the comprehensive and impressive ground floor accommodation, before the period staircase takes you up to the five gorgeous bedrooms. The principal bedroom suite is a sanctuary that offers a trio of substantial windows and a choice of absorbing views directly from the pillow, ready to embrace you at the start of every day. The space is calm and uncluttered, enveloped by an extensive range of fitted wardrobes on three sides, plus a dedicated ensuite bathroom across the landing. Next door there's a dressing room that has an entrance to the landing so could easily become a sixth bedroom, if required. Each of the five current bedrooms are spacious doubles, some boasting characterful exposed ceiling beams, some have dressing rooms, but all have their own dedicated bathroom or shower room and all with spectacular views over the surrounding landscape to softly send you to sleep at the end of a busy day. SELLER'S INSIGHT:- - When we first moved here over 20 years ago, we had a local historian come to tell us about the intriguing history of the house, say the current owners of Pentwyn House. The original building consisted of what is now the Hall, dating back to the late 15th or early 16th century, with a later Victorian extension. We have further extended the house with the addition of an orangery, and put our own stamp on the property with stunning new interiors which complement the many original features retained: flagstone flooring, oak beams, Delft tile fireplaces, and metalwork from the time of the Spanish Armada, to name but a few. Though the rooms are large, the house feels cosy and welcoming, continues the owner. Every room is completely different, with the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional. To create a sense of continuity, we added oak panelling throughout the ground floor. This enhances the easy flow from the porch, through the hall and into the kitchen, towards which everyone tends to gravitate. The kitchen really is the hub of the home, and is my favourite part of the house, with bespoke curved Chalon units and a unique colour palette and layout designed to our own specifications. Another special room is the playroom, which has hand-painted murals designed according to themes chosen by my children when they were younger. New room - As well as being an incredible family home, this is also a fantastic party house, the owner says. We have hosted countless functions and celebrations here, the most recent being my daughter's wedding reception, with 100 people in the house and garden. Indeed, the multi-level garden serves as an extension of the indoor living accommodation, with an easy flow between the kitchen and sunny patio area for summer entertaining, plenty of grassy areas for children to run around, as well as a terraced fruit and vegetable patch so we can serve up our own fresh produce to family and friends. The annex and games room are fantastic too, providing both guest accommodation and plenty of fun for the whole family with its full-size snooker table, dartboard and table tennis table. The whole property is full of memories and lots of love, and we shall miss it dearly. The location of the property has much to recommend it, too, says the owner, being part of a friendly village community surrounded by beautiful countryside, yet within just a few miles of the city centre. A small lane leads from our house to the village for everyday amenities such as a GP surgery, pharmacy, grocery store, hairdresser, and a primary school and nursery highly rated by Ofsted. Within 5 miles are well-regarded secondary schools, too. Outside - Step outside into the most idyllic of gardens, with layers of lawns and terraces that wrap around the house, cocooning it in a myriad of mature foliage and far-reaching, breathtaking rural views, enjoyed to the maximum from this home's elevated position. A sun-drenched terrace hugs the house, easily enticing you out to relax on a lounger with a book and feel truly connected to the landscaped gardens that seamlessly roll into the rural vista that stretches out to the horizon. There's ample space on this pretty patio for a number of sizeable alfresco dining areas to enjoy memorable moments sharing a meal with family and friends, accompanied by laughter and chat long into the evening. There's plenty of space for guests to park too, after being totally captivated by travelling through one of the two gated entrances and being greeted by this welcoming abode. Wander down the stone steps onto the immaculate front lawns to play games or even add a swimming pool, or meander to the side of the house to find a charming, sunken patio area and more extensive lawns and mature shrubbery. The outside space is practical as well as pretty, with a bonus caged yard area for dogs, complete with outdoor shower tap providing warm water to wash the countryside off your four-legged friends, and there's likely to be a lot of it as this is a prime dog walking countryside location. Nestled within these glorious grounds are two attractive detached stone barns that offer potential. The larger of this delightful duo has been partly converted on the first floor to create a cute dwelling consisting of a kitchen lounge, bedroom and shower room that leads directly into a well-used games room that is home to a full-size billiards table and football table. It's not surprising to discover that it is a very popular place for socialising and is currently well-used by the younger generation when they return to the family home for a visit. The ground floor is currently unconverted, home to four stables, three storerooms and a double garage. Both barns offer the potential to be converted into further accommodation, subject to planning consent, and could even become a source of income if transformed into holiday lets, because who wouldn't want to come and stay at this tranquil property, surrounded by views to mesmerise and gorgeous countryside, yet so close to the capital. Nearby there are also twenty acres of pastureland and eight acres of woodland available by separate negotiation.
