House Aberdovey (United Kingdom)

Situated in an idyllic location with panoramic views overlooking the Aberdovey Estuary and extending towards the sea, Braich Y Celyn Hall is a property of significant historical and architectural distinction. Nestled within approximately five acres of meticulously landscaped grounds, this elegant residence seamlessly blends four centuries of history with modern convienence. Originally constructed as a two-storey farmhouse around 400 years ago, the estate has undergone thoughtful extensions and renovations, including a third floor added during the Regency Era and an additional wing during the Victorian period. The result is a versatile residence in immaculate condition that offers a unique blend of classic and contemporary features. Upon entry, one is greeted by a magnificent galleried hall that serves as a grand focal point, granting access to the various rooms on the ground floor. The kitchen and open-plan sitting room, located in one wing of the house, enjoy a triple aspect that allows for an extraordinary influx of natural light. Dual French windows frame a log-burning stove, offering splendid views over the gardens and the Aberdovey Estuary beyond. The dining room further enhances the connection to the exterior via its own set of French doors. A cast-iron fireplace, complemented by two arched recesses, provides a classic centerpiece. Similarly, the drawing room is optimally designed to offer breathtaking vistas over the estate’s grounds and the estuary, complemented by a distinguished fireplace and three sets of French doors leading out. The lower ground floor is home to a capacious games room, a wine cellar, and a game larder. The primary stairway ascends to the first floor, which hosts the master and second bedroom suites—both of which boast spectacular coastal views and en-suite bathrooms. High ceilings and fitted wardrobes contribute to the overall sense of luxurious comfort. An additional room on this floor, currently employed as an office, also enjoys the property’s iconic views. The second floor accommodates three more bedrooms, one of which includes an en-suite shower room and a small kitchen—making it ideally suited for staff or as a self-contained annex. A family bathroom serves the remaining two bedrooms. The estate's extensive grounds, adorned with a variety of specimen shrubs and trees, offer not only aesthetic appeal but also functional spaces, including ample parking and two large garages. Location & Amenities Braich Y Celyn Hall is located to the East of Aberdovey, a charming village renowned for its range of outdoor pursuits, well-regarded restaurants, public houses, and cafes. Local leisure facilities include sailing, fishing, and an international golf course. The nearby town of Machynlleth offers a more extensive range of amenities. With excellent road and rail connectivity, the estate provides easy access to Welshpool, Oswestry, Chester, and beyond. In summary, Braich Y Celyn Hall represents a rare opportunity to acquire a property that marries historical elegance with modern convenience, all set against the backdrop of some of Wales' most breathtaking scenery. Aberdyfi is a small seaside village founded in 1800 on the north side of the Dyfi estuary in southern Snowdonia. It is where the river Dyfi meets the green-blue waters of Cardigan Bay. Aberdyfi is one of those simple, seductive little resorts that hits the right spot. All the ingredients are here – a golden beach, crabbing and fishing from the quayside, yachts in the bay and views across the estuary to admire. Quaint old streets rise up to spectacular viewpoints whilst in the heart of the village you can enjoy browsing in specialist boutiques and art galleries or dine in exceptional inns and restaurants. Or you can simply sit in this idyllic setting and relax. The village was founded around the shipbuilding industry and boasts a number of excellent beaches and a championship golf club. The first ever outward bound centre opened in Aberdyfi in 1941 and the town continues to have a strong yacht club and is a haven for water sports enthusiasts. You don't need to travel too far from Aberdyfi to find a different world - that of spectacular mountain and valley scenery. The peaks of the Cadair Idris and Aran Fawddwy ranges are within easy reach and are complimented by the charm of the Dovey and Dysynni valleys nearby. An ideal area for walkers, climbers and wildlife watchers. Vendor Interview: We decided to buy Braich Y Celyn Hall after looking at many houses. This house has been built in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. They certainly new about building in the right location, and will be still standing here in another three hundred years. The Hall has a warm, relaxing and cosy feel throughout, which is nestled into the land and provides commanding views of the Dyfi Estuary; through many of the rooms. We are often able to sit out late into the summer evening, and relax watching the Red Kites, Buzzards and circling on the thermals above us. Not to be out done Merlin our dog has the owls to keep a watchful eye. We liked that the garden was a blank canvas and so now we have been able to structure the garden with specimen trees i.e. Liriodendron Tulipifera, flowering for the first time in 15 years with Acers, Magnolias and Camellia. House Llanhennock (United Kingdom)

This luxurious country house, nestled in the Monmouthshire countryside, has seven spacious bedrooms, elegant Georgian-style reception rooms, a stunning kitchen/family room and breathtaking views of the beautiful Usk Valley from its balustraded terrace. Recently used as one of the locations for a TV adaptation of Jilly Cooper's bestseller, Rivals, the wonderful period-style property has been imaginatively extended and thoroughly refurbished and updated, to offer a comfortable, contemporary lifestyle. It enjoys a glorious, private and tranquil setting, positioned in gardens and grounds of just over 19 acres, which stretch down to the banks of the River Usk. Originally a 19th century cottage, Woodbank House may once have been used as a shooting lodge for a local estate. Today, the former four-bedroom home incorporates a range of previous outbuildings and offers generous accommodation totalling approximately 9,580 sq ft. The vendors, who bought the property more than fifteen years ago, were attracted by the style of the house, its setting and location. We have always loved period houses so that was part of the appeal and because it needed work doing to it, we had the opportunity to make it into the family home we wanted. But we fell in love with it because as soon as you enter the gates onto the long drive you feel totally safe and private. We also love Monmouthshire, as it is very rural yet close to big cities. Woodbank was perfect as it has Cardiff and Bristol close by and it is also near to charming villages and towns including Usk, Caerleon and Monmouth, if I want cafes and quaint shops. There is also Newport which is kind of in the middle if I want to go shopping for something in particular and still get back home within the hour. We both like to play golf and for that, the area is perfect. We even overlook the Celtic Manor Ryder Cup course. And the river is beautiful. It's been like living in a mini paradise. The vendors have completed an amazing transformation, in sympathy with the original cottage but on a much grander scale. We wanted a house that's cosy for a family but we love cooking and entertaining, so we created a kitchen and snug for day-to-day living and for entertaining there is lots of space, with a large dining room and drawing room. During the refurbishment, the vendors were careful to retain the cottage's features, including high ceilings, decorative plasterwork and handsome fireplaces and they have extended the period look and feel into the newer parts of the house, creating a seamless transition. One of their inspired additions was the terrace which wraps around three sides of the house, giving entrancing views over the parkland-style grounds to the valley and river beyond. With all modern day conveniences, including underfloor heating throughout and with the benefit of a surround sound system in parts of the house, this is a warm and welcoming family home that's built for entertaining on a grand scale. It has previously been used as a boutique wedding and events venue and has been let as Visit Wales five star self-catering accommodation, for up to 20 guests. The property is just two miles from the village of Llanhennock, where there is a thriving local pub. It is uniquely positioned, within 20 miles of the city of Cardiff and almost the same distance from the charming market towns of Usk, Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow. Newport, with direct trains to London Paddington, is 6.5 miles away. Bristol is 30 miles distant. Step inside:- - A grand tone is immediately set by the elegant reception hall, which is in the oldest part of the property and has a high ceiling with original decorative cornicing. To one side of the room is a pair of Georgian style arched recesses. An impressive, bespoke, American oak staircase leads up to the first floor and French doors open to the rear terrace. Off the hallway, at the front of the house, is an office, which features an original fireplace with a marble mantelpiece. French doors open from this room to the side terrace, known as the Rose Terrace. Next door, with a bay window overlooking the same terrace, there is a reception room featuring an original fireplace and built-in bookshelves. This room is currently used as a library and fully operational commercial bar area, but could be turned into an eighth bedroom if desired. Off the rear of the reception hallway is an elegant drawing room, flooded with light from four pairs of French doors which can be thrown open to the views. A focal point in this room is a decorative fireplace with an Ionic style mahogany surround. Across the hallway, the dining room is an equally beautiful room, designed in period style, with high ceilings, decorative cornicing, a central ceiling rose and a fireplace with a feature surround matching one in the drawing room. This is a working, open fireplace, like those throughout the ground floor of the property. The room, which can easily accommodate 20 diners, has a pair of French doors to the terrace at the back of the house and another set of French doors opens to a barbeque area. It is a great house for entertaining we can have drinks on the terrace, then dinner in the large dining room or, on long summer evenings, a barbeque on the terrace, followed by dessert and coffee while playing snooker in the games room on the lower ground floor. The stunning, bespoke kitchen, created to be the heart of the family home, was also designed with large-scale entertaining in mind. It has wooden, floor-to- ceiling cabinets, hand crafted by a local joiner, two Belfast sinks, a four-oven oil-fired Aga and high spec integrated appliances, a Quooker hot water tap, Siemens electric oven and hob and two Liebherr fridge/freezers. There is ample space for a family dining table and for a free-standing central island. Downstairs, the flooring is either engineered oak or quality tiling from Mandarin Stone. In the kitchen, the vendors opted for practical tiling. Double doors open from the kitchen to a cosy sitting room, used as the family snug. On the ground floor there is also a useful utility room just across from the kitchen, with an adjacent cloakroom. There is another downstairs cloakroom off the reception hall. Stairs outside the kitchen lead down to the lower ground floor, which incorporates two bedrooms with a shared bathroom. A large games room provides ample space for use as a snooker room, gym, and cinema. On this floor there is also an integrated double garage with a service door providing access to the stairway. It makes it easy to bring the shopping straight up to the kitchen. The lower ground floor accommodation also includes a store room and a cellar, fitted out as commercial yet stylish bar. The spectacular staircase from the reception hall leads to a galleried first floor landing, with a large window looking out over the terrace and grounds. On this floor there are five spacious bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. Each delightful bedroom has its own character. One has an attractive, part octagonal window giving views straight down the valley. Another, in the oldest part of the house, has a period cast iron fireplace. The particularly impressive principal bedroom benefits from a stunning ensuite with a roll top bath, generous corner shower and twin pedestal washbasins. There is a walk-in dressing room, with a handy linen chute which leads straight to the utility room. French doors from the bedroom open to a Juliet balcony, with a lovely long distance outlook over the River Usk and Celtic Manor Ryder Cup Golf course and estate. Outside - From the roadway, a pair of electrically operated, decorative wrought iron gates open to a long, sweeping drive, lined with shrubs and mature trees. This leads past a level gravel parking area for up to 20 cars (on the site of the former tennis court) and on to the front of the house and to the integrated garage. There is further parking in front of the garage. The house enjoys a central position in its parkland-style grounds, which extend to just over 19 acres, stretching down to the banks of the River Usk, where the vendors enjoy riverside walks. We also love to walk into Caerleon for coffee or across the field to the Wheatsheaf Inn in Llanhennock. Nearest the house, there are formal and terraced gardens and areas of lawn, whilst the grounds also include meadowland, a paddock with a variety of established fruit trees, a man-made pond and an area of mature woodland. Wrapping around the two sides and the rear of the house is a grand terrace, with period-style balustrades, which the vendors designed as outdoor entertaining space and to show off the views and the river. At the back, the River Terrace looks out over formal gardens to the Usk Valley. To one side, the Rose Terrace looks over a rose garden and a feature water fountain and also towards the Handkerchief Garden, where there is a lovely specimen handkerchief tree. Clambering over this side and over to the front of the house there is also an established wisteria. House Rudry (United Kingdom)

Nestled within beautiful, undulating countryside north of Cardiff this renovated dream home offers an idyllic pocket of peace, hidden away on a dead-end lane. The sprawling, stylish home occupies an enviable location, commutable to the capital yet surrounded by easily accessed, stunning countryside bursting with woodland walks, bike and horse trails, and a popular local pub for refreshments along the way. Through the gates reveals a collection of former farm buildings clustered around a private and characterful courtyard. Pushing open the front door of the main house reveals a stylish and contemporary country home offering impressive high-end, luxury design throughout that includes a designer kitchen by Loxleys London. The main house offers four substantial bedroom suites that ooze luxury, with opulent bathrooms and generous spaces that can accommodate lounge areas too. Outside, the grounds of approximately 0.85 acres are surrounded by stunning and sweeping rural views and multiple places to entertain family and friends, or find solitaire and silence in the shade under a tree. There's ample parking for multiple vehicles which is a big bonus as this rural retreat comes with surely the best party facilities in the area within one of the converted barns that is bound to attract regular visits from family and friends. The party barn includes a lounge bar that feels like you've just arrived at an exclusive country club, plus an impressive home cinema, spa that includes a sauna, steam room and a gym, a games room that can easily accommodate a full-size snooker table, plus a kitchen, so it's not too far to cook up a feast or find some snacks for guests. Step Inside:- - Step inside the former farmhouse within this cluster of incredible buildings and a glamorous and contemporary home awaits, having been lavished with a high-end renovation that has established luxury at its core. The first impression is a breathtaking one, with ground floor dividing walls and separate reception rooms a distant memory, as these former spaces have been combined and given a truly modern makeover. Stepping into this now open-plan space you can see through to the garden via picture windows and French doors and this, coupled with layers of thoughtfully designed lighting including hidden LEDs and shiny surfaces that bounce light around, makes the space feel very light, fresh and contemporary. The central staircase is a thing of beauty; a bespoke glass structure that sweeps its way to the first floor with a flourish. The flooring choice is contemporary too, high shine tiling that flows throughout the whole ground floor, unifying the space. To one side of the stunning staircase is a spacious dining zone that is the perfect place for a lively and enjoyable dinner party or family gathering, with ample space for a substantial dining table and the benefit of a set of French doors to throw open in the summer so the party can seamlessly spill out into the garden. The other side of the staircase is another zone focussed on socialising - a lounge area where two massive sofas effortlessly curve around the attractive feature fireplace, with visually pleasing symmetry achieved via a large floor-to-ceiling window either side of the flames. It's a space where winter months are warmed by the fire and summer time sees sunshine and garden views flood in through the picture windows, it's a space that will always be popular for gatherings, whatever the time of day or year. A more intimate reception space awaits off this impressive open-plan area, but it can still happily welcome a huge, squishy sofa for family and friends to sink into together, plus its own set of French doors so garden views and summer breezes can join the group gathering. There's a study at the rear of the house on the way to find the kitchen and it is a perfect place for work, with built-in carpentry promoting perfect organisation of work, and there's even space for yet another good sized sofa. Into the kitchen and the luxury fixtures and fittings continue with the discovery of a high-end, Edwin Loxley of London designer kitchen packed with integrated appliances and connected to the dining area via a set of steps. The cook can be joined for a chat and maybe a few taste tests either at the integrated island unit breakfast bar or in the dining area that includes a sizeable wine fridge. With the bifold doors open in the warmer weather, it's the perfect kitchen diner to cook up a feast connected directly and seamlessly to the garden. Additional accommodation on the ground floor includes a utility space and cloakroom, before the stunning glass staircase beckons so the journey of discovery can continue upstairs. The house used to have six bedrooms but with the remodelling of the home came the creative idea to sacrifice two in order to design four fabulous, spacious and distinct bedroom suites. In three of the bedroom suites the ceilings have been removed to create double-height, vaulted spaces full of charm, with the primary boasting exposed roof beams adding character to this substantial space. The ensuite to this largest of the bedrooms is, of course, glamorous and luxurious - and huge. It is an ensuite that is pure pleasure to visit either for a relaxing soak or refreshing shower, and this five-star hotel standard is repeated in the family bathroom where the bath commands most attention thanks to its size and position on an elevated pli.. It feels so luxurious to step up and then step down into the bath and, if accompanied by bubbles, candles and a glass of something refreshing, is a sumptuous experience that can be enjoyed every day at this property and not just when staying at a posh country hotel. Two of the suites have mezzanine bedroom areas with their own staircase which allows space below for lounge areas and even a semi open-plan ensuite as part of the floorplan. But the main house is not the only area of the property that has received a thoughtful and impressive renovation and conversion, one of the barns nestled around the courtyard has been given a new lease of life as surely the best party barn in the area. The barn is so well-equipped there is no need to ever leave the property for entertainment and fun. For the ultimate group fun the main section of the barn is currently dedicated to a games area that can easily accommodate a full-size snooker table and arcade games. Inside this amazing barn there's an impressive home cinema, complete with big, squishy chairs and dimmed lighting that conjures up a magical and intimate atmosphere as the perfect setting for the audience to be totally immersed in the movie. The barn has its own kitchen too, so it's not far to go to drum up some snacks in time for the film or the start of the match. Also found within the barn, that seems bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside, is a sizeable gym with a wall of mirrors to assist the workout, and after a hard session the spa area looks very welcoming, offering a sauna, steam room, walk-in shower and room for a massage table. The perfect end to the health and spa session is surely a cool drink waiting at the bar. As all good country clubs can boast, this private version has an inviting lounge bar area, nestled under the exposed roof beams on a mezzanine level, creating an intimate atmosphere to this most sociable of spaces. Outside - Step outside to explore the 0.85 acres of land that sweeps around the property before it seamlessly flows into panoramic rural views that expand to the horizon. Behind the gates, off the dead-end lane shared only with one other property that is also a bridleway, there's plenty of onsite parking for all the guests that are sure to turn up regularly to attend memorable events in the party barn. The lawns are extensive and expansive, lined by trees and hedgerows and offering the perfect place for outdoor games, football matches, and sun-drenched picnics, but the property can offer more intimate spaces too. There are house-hugging patios and courtyards that cluster around the house all boasting special and enticing places to admire the view, enjoy company with family and friends, and tuck into an alfresco feast. Within the grounds is a bonus that not many homes can offer - a characterful stone building called Long Barn that already has planning in place to be converted into a four-bed dream home, offering onsite multi-generational living if required. The vendors also advise that there is also the potential for 2 one bed, suites (with sitting room/kitchen bathroom and balcony) above the parking for five vehicles. This additional potential to create an extra dream home (with its own title deed) is being sold separately to the main property for Guide Price £375,000. With permission, the newly finessed barn could even be rented out as a holiday let to make the most of the property's perfect location, close to the capital of Wales and yet feeling like a world away, surrounded by a rolling rural landscape with onsite socialising and relaxation at the heart of this unique luxury home. House with terrace Llanishen (United Kingdom)

Located in an elevated position above the glorious Monmouthshire countryside and on the edge of the Wye Valley, this truly stunning home offers an idyllic rural lifestyle surrounded by breathtaking, panoramic views of the Vale of Usk. At the end of a small country lane, behind electric gates and at the end of a sweeping driveway the substantial four-bedroom home called Twyn Gorse promises peace and privacy, enveloped within three acres of land. The perfectly placed property at the brow of a hill maximises the incredible panoramic view that extends for miles across the landscape to the horizon, and from the vast garden terrace the vista across the county is exceptional. When the current owners spent two years updating and remodelling the property into a remarkable home, they optimised the connection to the view from the house by adding a sizeable first floor balcony as the front row seat to feel totally immersed in the landscape. Outside, the property can boast a separate annexe ideal for multi-generational living onsite, plus a double garage, carport and an outbuilding ripe for conversion. Inside, the remodelling of the 1950s abode into a luxury, contemporary abode has created an outstanding open-plan living space in a broken-plan layout across the whole of the main ground floor. A single-storey extension sweeps to the side and offers a utility room and sizeable family room with a door to a second kitchen, opening up the possibility of creating an annexe or the most wonderful for games rooms with a very short journey to top up the snacks. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms, with the principal bedroom suite impressing with a dressing area with seating, a high-end ensuite with massive shower plus the balcony that boasts the most incredible place to relax accompanied by the panoramic views. The house might be off a tiny country lane, high on a hill but it is also well-connected to the thriving and friendly village of Llanishen which offers a pub and a village hall as the centres of the community, as well as access onto the B4293. This is a direct route to Monmouth which is only about seven miles away and offers an impressive array of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants as well as amenities and facilities. The town can also offer some of the best schools in the area, although nearby Trelleck has a primary school closer to home. To the west is the popular and pretty town of Usk, once voted the best place to live in Wales, and the main road through Llanishen also heads south to Chepstow which can offer a mainline railway station and the M48 linking to the M4 and M5 for journeys further afield. Being on the doorstep of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty means a myriad of ways to make lasting memories within the stunning landscape, from hiking and biking to woodland walks and water-based sports, the only challenge is trying to choose what to try first. Step inside - Step inside this very impressive home and it immediately embraces you with light and space via a double-height hall that includes a galleried landing and stunning chandelier cascading down the stairwell. It's an entrance of grandeur yet is welcoming and inviting, enticing you to explore further by revealing glimpses and views of the substantial ground floor spaces via large, open doorways. To the left is the impressive living room which is probably going to win the battle of drawing you inside first, in part due to the mesmerising, panoramic view that the space fully embraces via two sets of massive glass sliding doors. It's a living room that has been created for social gatherings with family and friends, and lots of them too, as the vast space happily welcomes multiple sofas. Sinking into a bank of cushions, it's not hard to relax and thoroughly enjoy time spent being truly hypnotised by the rural vista as well as the scintillating company. When the temperature rises, the glass doors become the heroes of the space, gently sliding open to create effortless indoor outdoor wandering while allowing refreshing breezes to waft in and cool the space. The living room seamlessly flows into the kitchen space that is another area designed to draw people together, offering them a special place to comfortably linger and chat with the cook whilst sitting at the integrated breakfast bar at one end of the vast kitchen island. The high-end, well-equipped contemporary kitchen is a cook's dream, boasting two ovens, hob, a vegetable sink, granite work surfaces and a large wine cooler as just some of the highlights to please and impress. At the end of the kitchen the connected reception space flows into a dining area around the corner, a more formal area with a more intimate atmosphere. This sunny and pleasant space is perfectly designed to host dinner parties and enjoy family meals and can boast its own direct flow to the garden via a set of French doors that offer a beautifully framed view of the garden. Taking down walls within this period property has been a triumph; joining all the rooms into one connected space for perfect flow both physically and visually and yet cleverly zoning the spaces so they each have a function and atmosphere. But the house has not finished with revealing accommodation to impress on the ground floor just yet. Via a door at the end of the kitchen a utility room is waiting to assist you with a sizeable, practical space and is joined by a cloakroom and duo of storage cupboards. There's a door at the end of this section of the home that opens into a surprise second kitchen and then a substantial room that boasts a wall of bifold doors that open to the garden, as well as framing the seemingly never-ending view. This bonus single-storey addition to the side of the house could be used as a games room and party space, or a quieter and separate reception room, or because it has its own external door at the rear of the house it could even be a contender to become an annexe. Upstairs, via the charming central galleried landing, four sumptuous and very spacious bedrooms await, with the principal able to boast an ensuite worthy of a five-star hotel and a joy to stumble into every morning. But this principal suite can boast extra layers of impressive spaces, with a dressing area that includes a bespoke, built-in window seat and direct access to the incredible glass panelled balcony that spans the width of the house. From enjoying a weekend brunch in the sun to indulging in a late night drink under the stars, the balcony is the ultimate place to relax and feel totally immersed in the enviable panoramic view, with nature and wildlife neighbours as the only near neighbours. Both bedroom two and three at the rear of the house enjoy their own sweeping countryside views via dual aspect windows, as well as sharing a Jack and Jill' bathroom, while bedroom four shares in the joy of the mesmerising vista at the front of the house directly from the pillow. The family bathroom is another luxurious space. The thought, care and budget lavished on the rest of the house is very evident in this room too, through the choice of porcelain tiles and a high-end suite that includes a substantial walk-in shower and modern freestanding bath placed at an angle so that the view is waiting at the end of the bath to be fully enjoyed. This is a country home that hides an abundance of extra features with a view to the future as well as the present, including a state-of-the-art heat recovery ventilation system and solar panels as well as underfloor heating and triple glazing that when combined create a home that is highly energy efficient as well as sophisticated, modern and elegant - a dream c.. Vendor Insight - When we came to view Twyn Gorse for the first time, we knew that we had to have it simply because of the position. Located at the top of the hill with 360-degree views, the scenery is phenomenal and we firmly believe that it's one of the best plots in South Wales. The views over the local villages and hills are just sublime, say the owners. We purchased the property in 2016 and restoration work began in 2018. Built in 1957, everything was original and required stripping back, including the part of a tree trunk used to finish off the roof! What we have now is a welcoming and cosy home that has been insulated to a very high standard; it's efficient and economical to run and we're currently using electricity generated by ourselves and not from the National Grid. We enjoy being part of a friendly little community where everyone is willing to help out but are never intrusive. Our village hall is one of the most active in the area and there's something going on all the time, including cooked breakfasts, free coffee mornings, variety shows, pantomimes, skittles, soft play, and BBQs for special occasions. The village pub serves nice food and we also have a well-stocked shop that's handy for day-to-day essentials. We're equidistant between Chepstow and Monmouth both of which have a wide range of amenities. The garden is completely flat which is unusual for a property in this location. It's great for every generation as children enjoy endless games of football and bike riding, whilst adults sit comfortably with a glass of something chilled. The patio wraps around the house with different seating areas to make the most of the views and sunshine. It's perfect for relaxing and entertaining with a sunken patio and hot tub area, speaker system, and a well-equipped outdoor kitchen. We see a huge variety of wildlife here, as well as red kites and buzzards who are almost on the same level as us as we're so high up. We had a vision of open plan living which has worked brilliantly. The kitchen is the heart of the home where we can cook and easily chat to our guests, whilst the lounge benefits from the amazing, ever-changing views where we can watch the rain and mist come in before the clouds give way to bright sunshine. Outside - Step outside into three acres of private and peaceful land that is drenched in stunning rural views, as well as pools of sunlight and the natural world as the constant soundtrack. Approaching the house along the small country lane it appears on the horizon and looks magnificent. Through the electric gates and the period property remodelled into a modern home over a two year period dominates the plot, perched high above the sprawling Monmouthshire landscape below. The vast wraparound terrace measuring over 160 square metres and accessed from the house via a number of glass doors, makes the most of the surrounding views, ensuring maximum enjoyment and connection, and is the hub of the home outside. Relaxing on a lounger with a book, enjoying alfresco dining in peace or with company, hosting the best BBQs and garden parties supported by the bonus outside kitchen are all moments to make lifelong memories with the most incredible scenery as the constant backdrop. There's plenty of parking for guests on the driveway and the house can offer a home for a variety of the owner's vehicles including a double garage and a carport as a handy home for a caravan or motorhome. There's a place for guests to stay too once the party has wrapped up, a detached annexe that can boast its own kitchen and shower room and so could also offer multi-generational living opportunities as well as the potential to be a holiday let, subject to planning. The majority of the land away from the manicured and landscaped garden that wraps around the house offers plenty of private woodland walks and paddocks to explore and an abundance of special spots to set down a picnic blanket and relax. The property can even supply a renovation opportunity in the garden for an owner to get their imagination whirring. The outbuilding called The Quarry, which has water and electricity already installed, is looking for a new lease of life, subject to planning, to add to the outstanding features and extras that this truly special home and garden offers. As you turn into the private lane leading to Bryn y Cadno, you'll be immediately captivated by the serene beauty of its surroundings. The lane, adorned with snowdrops, crocuses, and later daffodils along the riverbank, offers a picturesque journey. Come spring, the wooded areas burst into carpets of native bluebells, adding to the enchantment The substantial 6 bedroom farmhouse sits comfortably within over 20 acres of mixed grounds including pasture, woodland and the Nant Cwm-Cyfyng river running though with its pretty hump backed stone bridge connecting with the land on the opposite banks. The sellers have capitalised on the serene setting over recent years by creating a camping field in one of the riverside paddocks. .    The main residence offers extensive accommodation with six bedrooms and three to four rooms. One of the wings would make a perfect annex or potential holiday let if a purchaser was seeking an opportunity for an additional income. It is the land that will be the appeal too many, with glorious woodland, pasture, gardens, orchards and attractive wildlife pond. This diverse area has something to suit most, whether that is livetsock, ponies or simply enjoyment of the natural habitat and the privacy that the land affords. ..    The farmstead of Bryn y Cadno has a long and interesting history dating back to the 16th century (1594) with buildings and associated structures forming a group of very distinctive character. The layout of the farmhouse is derived from a longhouse plan with the well preserved cow house on the other side of the stream of an even earlier date. Material in the National Library references the history of Bryn-y-Cadno back over 400 years and gives good reason to suppose that Bryn y Cadno is medieval in origin. Location    Located in the community of Capel Issac, one of the most sought after regions of Carmarthenshire. It is conveniently situated for the popular market town of Llandeilo, about 3 miles, where there is a great range of local shops along with primary and secondary schooling. The County town of Carmarthen is about 16 miles where there is a more comprehensive choice of shopping facilities and the M4 at Pont Abraham about 10 miles providing great access across south Wales and beyond. Walk Inside    A traditional open porch guides you to the main hallway, where a staircase ascends to the first floor. To the left, discover a stunning sitting room boasting an exposed stone wall, complete with a recessed fireplace with woodburning stove and an inviting slate hearth. An impressive stoned capped shelf divides the space, creating a charming study area within the room. On the opposite side of the hallway, a further living room awaits, featuring exposed wooden beams and a deep recess fireplace with a characterful bread oven and gas stove (currently non-operational). Serving as the heart of the home, the kitchen offers a range of fitted floor and wall units, complemented by a ceramic tiled floor, a two-oven oil-fired Aga, and a traditional ceiling beam .    The secondary entrance hall offers ample opportunity for customisation, with potential for subdivision. Accessed from here are practical amenities including a utility room and ground floor toilet, as well as a study in turn leading to an additional sitting room, which could serve as an AirBnB annex, with sevice provisions understood to be in place for a small corner kitchen. Adjacent to this area is a ground floor bedroom suite comprising a generously sized double bedroom and a spacious wet room equipped with a shower, WC, and wash hand basin. Completing the ground floor level is a garden room with a ceramic tiled floor and French doors leading to the front, offering the possibility of separate access. ..    Access to the first floor is facilitated by two main staircases, with the main landing situated in the older section of the property. From here, access is provided to two double bedrooms, a single bedroom, and a family bathroom complete with WC, wash basin, and a panelled bath. The larger of the three bedrooms features its own ensuite bathroom adorned in avocado green, equipped with WC, wash basin, and a panelled bath with shower over. A further staircase leads to the second landing which can also be approached via a door from the larger bedroom, granting access to two additional double bedrooms and a shower room featuring WC, wash basin, and a shower cubicle. Additionally, a further door from one of the bedrooms opens into two sizable rooms currently utilised for storage. Walk Outside    The property enjoys a cluster of traditional buildings, one of which is thought to date back as much as 400 years. The main buildings include the former Cowshed, a large stone built structure; the Stable block, also of stone construction with three stables and the Cart Shed, an open ended stone building. The Land    The land amounts to just over 21 acres or thereabouts as a mixture of level grassed paddocks, woodland, meadows, a natural lake all intersected by a small river that adds to the charm of this wonderful home. The gardens have been well cared for with a series of vegetable beds, mature shrubs and large areas of lawns. NOTES    A number of public footpaths cross the property.

House Caldicot (United Kingdom)

This charming four-bedroom cottage fuses cosy, historic character with stunning, contemporary living spaces and combines the convenience of an edge-of-town location with a private parkland-style setting and the enduring appeal of open views over the lovely south Monmouthshire countryside. I love sunsets and we have the most amazing sunsets here and wonderful skies, because it is flat and open. I have a table and chairs in the front garden, where I can sit in the afternoon and evening, looking over the farmers' fields to the west, just enjoying the skies. Fairfield sits in immaculately-kept, mature grounds of approximately 2 acres which include stables and a stable yard with independent access. There are also three substantial outbuildings, with current business use but with flexibility to be used for leisure purposes, separate home working space or, with planning permission, converted into further accommodation. Ideal for country-lovers who want the best of both worlds, the property is convenient to the motorway network and to nearby amenities. It is situated on the outskirts of Magor, a lively, welcoming and family-friendly community, roughly equidistant between the market town of Chepstow and the city of Newport (9 miles). Proximity to the M4 means for commuting, shopping, leisure and entertainment, there is easy access to other nearby towns and cities such as Cardiff, Bristol, Monmouth and Abergavenny. At the heart of Magor, an historic square is filled with a variety of independent shops, including a delicatessen which also sells fresh fruit and veg. The town boasts a local Post Office, a handy convenience store and a number of lovely cafes, pubs, restaurants and takeaways. The community is served by a Church in Wales Primary School, whilst Undy Primary School and Bryn Primary School are other nearby options and for secondary education, there is the well-regarded Caldicot School. In an area that has a wealth of interesting local history and easy access to beautiful countryside, Fairfield is close to the Severn Estuary, on the Gwent Levels. This landscape of international significance is home to a great diversity of wildlife and Magor Marsh, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is a tranquil environment teeming with wildfowl and fauna. Step inside:- - Dating from the early 1900s, the cottage was extended some 70 years later and has recently been modernised and upgraded, to provide lovely, open-plan living space, carefully planned to create a seamless flow from traditional to modern. Exposed timbers, original stone walls and an open fireplace with a wood burning stove on a flagstone hearth give the characterful living room a wonderful, warm ambience, which contrasts with the feel of the beautifully presented, light and airy contemporary kitchen which it opens into. Once separated by a dividing wall, these two rooms now provide one wow space. Says the vendor: Where we once had small, dark rooms, we now have space suitable for 21st Century living. The vendors have recently installed the stunning, modern kitchen, with its comprehensive range of units and wood effect laminate flooring, chosen for practicality. I opted for country-style units to suit the property and planned lots of workspace as I like to cook. We have a big family and when we get together they always come to us. The kitchen has a large central island, incorporating a breakfast bar and the room also has ample space for a separate dining table. The kitchen incorporates integrated appliances and a Range cooker (with LPG gas hob and electric double oven). The kitchen is flooded with natural light, being open plan to a handy utility room which leads straight through to a sun room, with glazed doors to a charming rear courtyard, perfect for dining al fresco. The neatly-presented utility room, with units to match the kitchen, includes space and plumbing for a washing machine and built-in space for an upright fridge/freezer. From the kitchen, there is a doorway to a rear hallway which leads through to a comfortable lounge. Like the living room, this is situated in the oldest part of the house and it is full of character, with an exposed original stone wall featuring an inset fireplace on a raised hearth (not a working fireplace) and a stone-built corner seat. The lounge has a window to the side garden. It is a lovely, comfortable room. It gets the sun first thing in the morning and it very light and warm. Next to the lounge is one of the vendor's favourite rooms a spacious games room with an in-built bar and sliding doors to the rear garden. It's a great family party room and we have had some really fun times in it, including birthdays, Christmases, christenings and even a fancy dress event. Off the rear hallway, there is also a is a fully-tiled downstairs shower room, refitted during the property's recent refurbishment, when the vendors also installed stylish grey traditional column radiators throughout the ground floor. From the rear hallway a pair of glazed doors gives access to the rear courtyard and stairs lead up to the first floor, where there are four bedrooms, including one with an ensuite bathroom and built-in wardrobes and another which also benefits from fitted wardrobes. The master bedroom, which overlooks the front garden, has fitted wardrobes, built-in shelving and a spacious and luxurious en-suite bathroom with a whirlpool bath in one corner and a large walk-in shower in another. Off the landing there is a handy storage cupboard. Back on the ground floor, what was once a double garage has been converted into two further rooms, which could be used as a study and further reception room. The flexible space, accessed through the sun room but also with independent access from the front of the cottage, could alternatively be returned to a garage or converted to provide a ground floor bedroom or annexe accommodation. Outside - From the road, a pair of five bar gates open to an impressive gravelled driveway, which leads up to the front of the cottage and around to the side, where there is ample parking. Either side of the driveway, large level lawns planted with mature trees, including 50-year-old willows, give a parkland feel. Spring bulbs planted along the fence line at the front of the properly are a mass of seasonal colour. At the rear of the cottage, opening from the sun room, is a lovely, sheltered and secluded courtyard area, where pretty climbing plants clamber over a wooden pergola. The courtyard, laid with pavers in a circular pattern, makes a wonderful spot for outdoor entertaining. Past a garden shed in one corner of the courtyard, steps lead up to a vegetable garden, with two raised beds and a greenhouse. The gardens and grounds also include an orchard with a variety of fruit trees. Fairfield enjoys a beautiful level position, extending to approximately 2 acres and also including a stable yard, with wooden stables with three loose boxes, with independent access through a five bar gate directly from the road. Further, substantial buildings, all with business use granted, comprise a brick-built, L-shaped building (which could provide further stabling) and two further single-storey blocks. House Saint Arvans (United Kingdom)

This magnificent, Grade II listed family home sits in private, part-walled gardens in a Conservation Area at the historic heart of the desirable village of St Arvans, at the gateway to the beautiful Wye Valley. St Arvans Court is an attractive and exceptionally well-presented property, which benefits from three elegant reception rooms, a large, recently fitted family kitchen with a charming breakfast/dining area, seven bedrooms, a home office and a gym with a sauna. The historic house is thought to be Jacobean in origin, with an imposing Georgian addition at the front. It is remarkable for its lovely period features, which include a balcony along the full length of the back of the house and a unique circular sitting room at the front. Other classic detailing includes dado rails, cornicing, some original shutters, some pretty cast iron bedroom fireplaces and traditional cast iron radiators. Charming traditional features in the oldest part of the property include an open stone fireplace and exposed beams. The lovely property has been home to the vendors for the past 25 years and in that time they have lovingly refurbished, modernised and maintained it. It's a special house and has made an absolutely perfect family home. It is peaceful and has a real warmth about it. When we first viewed it, the children loved it, particularly the two attic bedrooms, which they claimed as theirs. The vendors were also attracted to the area, which is very popular with families. St. Arvans is a charming village, situated in the Lower Wye Valley, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife, it's a good base for those who enjoy walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. It's also a friendly place with a strong sense of community. The Memorial Hall hosts a busy calendar of events and village facilities include a pub, church, day nursery and two playing fields. Only two miles away, in Chepstow, there are schools, further leisure facilities, a range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, supermarkets and an M&S Foodhall. This lovely ancient market town is the site of Chepstow Castle, reputedly the earliest stone-built Norman stronghold. Chepstow racecourse is within walking distance of St Arvans and there are golf and leisure facilities at nearby St Pierre Golf & Country Club. From the village, it's only three and a half miles to the Severn Bridge and to the motorway network, bringing Bristol, Newport and Cardiff within easy reach. There are regular trains to London from Bristol Parkway and international flights from Bristol and Cardiff airports. Step Inside:- - The house is rendered and painted, with Welsh slate roofs. It has an attractive, symmetrical facade with sash windows with decorative dripmoulds over. There is a grand, central entrance porch with a front door with pretty leaded panes set below a leaded fanlight. The welcoming entrance hallway has tessellated tiled flooring and an attractive ceiling arch. Solid wood doors open from either side of the hallway to the two elegant, high ceilinged reception rooms which both have sash windows (with their original shutters) overlooking the front of the property. One of these rooms is the gorgeous, circular sitting room, which has two large alcoves either side of an attractive fireplace, housing a wood burning stove. The round room is my favourite place in the winter because it is so cosy and tranquil in there. It is a perfect place to cuddle up on the sofa in front of the log burner. Across the hallway, the second reception room, used as a formal dining room, is perfect for dinner parties and Christmas entertaining. In a similar style to the sitting room, at one end of the room there are two large alcoves with decorative plasterwork in a semi-circular wall, framing a feature fireplace. One alcove houses a purpose-built dresser. In the other there is an intriguing, revolving dumb waiter, which connects with the kitchen. I can't say we have ever used it but it is an unusual feature to have! The kitchen/breakfast room is in the original Jacobean part of the house, at the back of the property, where lower, beamed ceilings lend the rooms traditional character and charm. The stylish, recently refitted kitchen features a range of contemporary, pebble grey units, quartz worksurfaces, splashbacks and upstands, Mandarin Stone porcelain floor tiles and a traditional Belfast sink. The well-planned kitchen includes a large island, plenty of cupboard and drawer space, a comprehensive range of inbuilt appliances and a large larder cupboard. There is a two-oven, oil-fired Aga as well as a separate cooker and hob. A door from the kitchen opens to a side porch which leads to a patio at the side of the house, used for outdoor dining and entertaining. The kitchen leads through to a large breakfast/dining area with three exposed ceiling beams and an impressive stone fireplace, with an oak beam over, housing a huge wood burning stove on a flagstone hearth. With the Aga at one end and the big log burner at the other, this room is really warm and cosy. From the breakfast/dining area, there is a door to the back garden and to one side of the fireplace, five steps lead up to a fitted utility room, with a Belfast sink, space and plumbing for a washing machine and space for a tumble dryer. This room is in a modern, single storey extension at the side of the house, which could be converted into an annexe if required. A door from the utility room leads through to a study/home office with a large window overlooking the garden as well as a door to the outside. I chose this as my home office because it is quiet and away from the main house and it was an ideal place to work from home, without being disturbed. Beyond the study is a home gym with a sauna, whilst in this extension there is also an integrated single garage, with a courtesy door into the utility room. The downstairs accommodation is completed by a WC situated off the porch to the side of the kitchen. From the entrance hallway a Georgian staircase with turned spindles and a mahogany handrail leads up to a first-floor family living room, which has two sets of French doors to the balcony running along the back of the house. On warm evenings, it is lovely to throw them open to the balcony it brings the outside in. The room has traditional oak flooring and a fireplace with a decorative wood surround housing a wood burning stove. There are also three bedrooms on this floor, including the principal suite, a light and airy space with two sash windows to the front of the property and an arched window to the side. There's a dressing area and a modern ensuite with a contemporary free-standing bath and a steam shower. Also overlooking the front of the house is a double guest bedroom which features a charming cast iron fireplace. At the back of the house, with French doors to the balcony, there is a further double bedroom which has a door to the Jack and Jill family bathroom, also accessible from the hallway. Stairs lead up to a second floor, where, on a half landing, there is a door to a two-bedroom, self-contained apartment, which has its own private access up a metal staircase from the outside. Ideal as separate space for grandparents or grown-up children, the vendors have mainly used it as part of their main accommodation. It was useful having two kitchens when the children were teenagers and entertaining their friends. The stairs lead on up to the two delightful double bedrooms in the attic, both with the A-frame exposed. These are the rooms the children fell in love with. One room has a charming curved window and a door to ample hanging and storage space in the eaves. The other has a porthole window. The rooms share a modern bathroom. Running underneath the front of the house, accessed from the garden or from steps down from the breakfast area, here is a barrel-roofed cellar with a flagstone floor, used for storage. Outside - The house stands in gardens of 0.80 acres, enclosed by an old stone wall on three sides and a tall hedge on the other, providing privacy. One of the beauties of the house is that it is in the village, with houses all around, but it is private and quite quiet. The property is accessed through a pair of wooden gates set in the stone wall. A driveway leads to ample parking in front of the property and then on round to the single garage at the side of the house. There is a mature Wellingtonia at the front of the house and a recently planted rare deciduous Sequoia. There is a large area of lawn at the back of the house and a sheltered patio to one side, perfect for summer barbeques and for a hot tub. An arbour half way up the garden is a lovely place to enjoy the last of the sun. A lavender bed borders a flagstone area under the balcony. An area of garden at the side of the property has been fenced off and contains a raised vegetable bed. It's a perfect-sized garden, completely safe for the dogs. When the children were growing up, the house was always full of their friends. It was fantastic for parties and the garden was a magnet for them all. House Dinas Powys (United Kingdom)

Fine & Country Cardiff are pleased to present to the market this charming six-bedroom cottage located in the highly sought after village of Dinas Powys. Old Mill Farmhouse is a beautiful character cottage that dates back to the 1400s, retaining many original features such as Inglenook fire place, bread oven and exposed beams. The property has been lovingly restored over the years by its current owners, who have enjoyed the property as their family home for many years, read their comments below: Seller Insight: - When we first saw Old Mill Farmhouse it struck us as an ideal oasis. It is completely private and secluded, yet it is in the heart of the village, close to the village square, with the ruins of a Norman castle just at the top of the garden. No-one quite knew the house was there and we later found out that when it went on the market, there were two open days when almost the whole village went to view it out of curiosity! We believe it is one of the oldest houses in Dinas Powys, built as a farmhouse to the mill next door in 1460 and mentioned in a will in 1533. We think it was extended in the 1830s and when we came across it, it had the appearance of a typical country cottage. We bought it in 1987, inheriting with it a cat, Tudor, who didn't want to move away. Then the work really started. It was unlived in, very ramshackle and with an overgrown garden. We set about the renovations one room at a time and really put heart and soul into the house. Because of its history, the house has some lovely features. Some of our favourites are the beamed ceiling in the dining room and the exposed natural stone fireplaces. We love the downstairs lounge where there's an original inglenook fireplace with a bread oven to one side and a little salt drying shelf the other. The alcove beside the fireplace had a curved wall from the original 15th century staircase leading to the upstairs. In the oldest part of the house, the walls are at least two feet thick, so in the summer, it is beautifully cool but in winter the walls provide great insulation and, with the log burner going, it is very cosy. Recently we took up the carpets in the downstairs lounge, hall and dining room and revealed the old flooring quarry tiles, boarding and some really ancient tiles, which could be original to the property. In 1999 we commenced an extension, using a local architect and local builders. We tried to make it in keeping with the theme of a Welsh longhouse so we built into the bank and carried on the line of the roof. It has given us so much extra space and light and a second staircase which has improved the flow of the house. We had a great Millennium party there, before the oak floor was fitted. We left the tinsel and confetti with the date 2000 on it under the flooring and there is a time capsule buried in one of the walls. The new, top lounge is perfect for us all to gather together as a family. It is a really lovely, sunny, bright and airy room with recently replaced bifold doors out to the patio. It's a lovely house for entertaining, which we used to do fairly often for birthdays and anniversaries, with 40 to 50 people in attendance. It was ideal, with the big new lounge upstairs and the other, cosier rooms. It was great for kids' and adults' parties there was always plenty of space. The garden is pretty special. It is a country-style garden, very secluded, with well-established trees and shrubs, mature apple and cherry trees and lots of fruit bushes. We even once had a vegetable patch. The different levels make it interesting and we have our own patch of woodland which is carpeted with daffodils, wild garlic and bluebells, depending on the season. It feels as if you are in the middle of the countryside. At the top of the garden there is room for a lovely summer house or home office, although there are enough rooms in the house to provide work from home space as well. The house faces south and in fine weather it is baked in sun most of the day. Quite often when we came home from work we would sit on the top patio by the pond and waterfall and catch the late afternoon and early evening sun. But because of the apple and cherry trees, there is always shade if you need it. * These comments are the personal views of the current owners and are included as an insight into life at the property. They have not been independently verified, should not be relied on without verification and do not necessarily reflect the views of the agent. Accommodation summary: - As you approach Old Mill Farmhouse from Lettons Way it would be easy to miss the property as it is tucked away in its own private spot. There is a set of steps that lead up alongside a sweeping driveway surrounded by trees, you will spot the sign at the bottom that displays the house name, which is about the only giveaway that there is a house located above. It is surprising that such a secluded property set in such a quiet spot could be so conveniently located for village life, this home really does offer the best of both worlds. Dinas Powys is a highly sought after residential area, offering fantastic schools, great village pubs, train station and easy access to the motorways. The accommodation offers, entrance hallway, three reception rooms, conservatory, study, boot room, cloakroom, kitchen/breakfast room, six bedrooms and a sizeable plot to the front and side of the property along with ample parking for 4/5 vehicles. House Pentyrch (United Kingdom)

Located along a quiet, leafy country lane surrounded by stunning scenery on the edge of a pretty and popular rural village easily commutable to Cardiff is this historic dream home that offers an abundance of character complemented by high-end luxury. Called Pentwyn House, the five-bedroom property is thought to date back to the 1600s at its core and can impress with a wealth of period charm through the ages, from feature fireplaces to wall panelling, flagstone flooring and ceiling beams. Although not listed the house has been handled with care and lavished with exquisite interiors that include hand-printed wallpaper, bespoke joinery, and designer pieces. On the ground floor the five reception rooms each have unique features but all will entice you in with an inviting ambience. The bay room boasts a sizeable bay window as the perfect place for a grand piano, the formal dining room effortlessly plays host to parties, the garden room has mesmerising views on three sides and the lounge oozes sophistication. The kitchen diner is a breathtaking space and a cook's dream, with masses of space, storage and appliances hiding behind handmade carpentry, and a deep plum coloured Aga taking visual centre stage. There's easily enough space for a large dining area as the room expands into an orangery and then out into the garden via bifold doors. Add a spacious study with bespoke storage, an entrance hall easily large enough to be home to a period fireplace and seating area, a utility room, and two cloakrooms, and the ground floor can clearly be called comprehensive, sociable and practical, as well as super stylish. Upstairs there are six bathrooms and five bedrooms that includes a principal bedroom with an abundance of built-in storage, a dedicated ensuite bathroom and a dressing room that could easily be a sixth bedroom, if required. Outside the idyllic, landscaped garden cocoons the home in a myriad of foliage, tiers of immaculate lawns, sun-drenched terraces and patios, and a captivating rural view that expands to the horizon. There are bonus buildings out here too; a pair of barns with the largest already semi-converted to provide a self-contained flat and well-used games room, plus the opportunity to transform more space into more accommodation, if planning permission allows. The house is nestled into the undulating landscape on the edge of the village of Pentyrch, just a few miles north of Cardiff. This popular village can offer a range of activities including cricket, rugby, football, and bowls clubs and children's play area, as well as the pretty church of St Catwg's, the King's Arms pub, and a war memorial and village green nestled within the heart of the community. Cardiff, boasting a substantial range of shopping and socialising opportunities, is just a short journey by car or bus, making the village a very popular commuter spot with workers based in the capital. Further afield the coastline is within driving distance, and the M4 is just a few miles away offering easy access to south Wales, Bristol and beyond, or catch a train on the UK's mainline railway network in Cardiff. But coming home to this unique house will always be returning to a unique gem that stands out amongst period properties that line the village's country lanes. No wonder Tom Jones once knocked on the door and offered to buy the property for his wife - that is unusual but totally understandable. STEP INSIDE:- - Step inside this welcoming period property to be enthralled by room after room of captivating character, sophisticated decor and a tasteful renovation that has effortlessly blended heritage features with a luxury and modern way of living. Although not listed, the house is thought to date back to the 1600s and has a wealth of period highlights dating back through the centuries to admire. The entrance hall provides a grand but inviting first impression with the beautifully carved staircase complemented by the Minton floor tiles and original flagstones, period fireplace, and oak wall panelling. Meandering to the right gets you into the four of the five reception rooms. The dining room is a beautifully decorated space to host intimate dinner parties by the open fireplace, rowdy family meals, and the perfect Christmas dinner, cocooned by sumptuous wallpaper with the ambience enhanced by designer Anthony Redmile light fittings. Into the bay room opposite and this space is an absolute joy to visit, with cascades of light rolling in through the substantial bay window - the perfect place for a grand piano to entertain guests after dinner. Travel down the inner hallway to explore a stunning drawing room where more luxury can be admired, from the soft velvet sofas that are forever inviting and urging you to relax and linger with friends in this social space, to the hand printed wallpaper. From this most comfortable of spaces a door provides access to a glorious garden room at the far end of the house. This light-drenched space can boast three sides of garden and countryside views from the comfortable seating area and is a popular place to gather for afternoon tea or relaxing evening drinks, with the sets of French doors flung open so refreshing breezes can join the group. From the entrance hall, or via the dining room, you will find the kitchen diner and it is definitely worth the wait. It's an incredible space that combines a high-end, handcrafted bespoke kitchen with an informal dining area found within an added orangery and a wall of glass bifold doors that provide a seamless path out to the garden terrace. The deep plum toned Aga provides a fabulous focal point that beautifully complements the solid oak kitchen carpentry - a winning combination that is visually breathtaking and crowned by granite worktops and handmade shelving. Any cook will be truly content in this well-equipped kitchen, able to create culinary masterpieces while chatting with family or friends who eagerly wait at the dining table. Even the smallest of rooms within this immaculate dream home are lavished with luxury including one of the two cloakrooms boasting Parisian antique light fittings. There's a sizeable study with bespoke storage and a sizeable utility room to complete the comprehensive and impressive ground floor accommodation, before the period staircase takes you up to the five gorgeous bedrooms. The principal bedroom suite is a sanctuary that offers a trio of substantial windows and a choice of absorbing views directly from the pillow, ready to embrace you at the start of every day. The space is calm and uncluttered, enveloped by an extensive range of fitted wardrobes on three sides, plus a dedicated ensuite bathroom across the landing. Next door there's a dressing room that has an entrance to the landing so could easily become a sixth bedroom, if required. Each of the five current bedrooms are spacious doubles, some boasting characterful exposed ceiling beams, some have dressing rooms, but all have their own dedicated bathroom or shower room and all with spectacular views over the surrounding landscape to softly send you to sleep at the end of a busy day. SELLER'S INSIGHT:- - When we first moved here over 20 years ago, we had a local historian come to tell us about the intriguing history of the house, say the current owners of Pentwyn House. The original building consisted of what is now the Hall, dating back to the late 15th or early 16th century, with a later Victorian extension. We have further extended the house with the addition of an orangery, and put our own stamp on the property with stunning new interiors which complement the many original features retained: flagstone flooring, oak beams, Delft tile fireplaces, and metalwork from the time of the Spanish Armada, to name but a few. Though the rooms are large, the house feels cosy and welcoming, continues the owner. Every room is completely different, with the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional. To create a sense of continuity, we added oak panelling throughout the ground floor. This enhances the easy flow from the porch, through the hall and into the kitchen, towards which everyone tends to gravitate. The kitchen really is the hub of the home, and is my favourite part of the house, with bespoke curved Chalon units and a unique colour palette and layout designed to our own specifications. Another special room is the playroom, which has hand-painted murals designed according to themes chosen by my children when they were younger. New room - As well as being an incredible family home, this is also a fantastic party house, the owner says. We have hosted countless functions and celebrations here, the most recent being my daughter's wedding reception, with 100 people in the house and garden. Indeed, the multi-level garden serves as an extension of the indoor living accommodation, with an easy flow between the kitchen and sunny patio area for summer entertaining, plenty of grassy areas for children to run around, as well as a terraced fruit and vegetable patch so we can serve up our own fresh produce to family and friends. The annex and games room are fantastic too, providing both guest accommodation and plenty of fun for the whole family with its full-size snooker table, dartboard and table tennis table. The whole property is full of memories and lots of love, and we shall miss it dearly. The location of the property has much to recommend it, too, says the owner, being part of a friendly village community surrounded by beautiful countryside, yet within just a few miles of the city centre. A small lane leads from our house to the village for everyday amenities such as a GP surgery, pharmacy, grocery store, hairdresser, and a primary school and nursery highly rated by Ofsted. Within 5 miles are well-regarded secondary schools, too. Outside - Step outside into the most idyllic of gardens, with layers of lawns and terraces that wrap around the house, cocooning it in a myriad of mature foliage and far-reaching, breathtaking rural views, enjoyed to the maximum from this home's elevated position. A sun-drenched terrace hugs the house, easily enticing you out to relax on a lounger with a book and feel truly connected to the landscaped gardens that seamlessly roll into the rural vista that stretches out to the horizon. There's ample space on this pretty patio for a number of sizeable alfresco dining areas to enjoy memorable moments sharing a meal with family and friends, accompanied by laughter and chat long into the evening. There's plenty of space for guests to park too, after being totally captivated by travelling through one of the two gated entrances and being greeted by this welcoming abode. Wander down the stone steps onto the immaculate front lawns to play games or even add a swimming pool, or meander to the side of the house to find a charming, sunken patio area and more extensive lawns and mature shrubbery. The outside space is practical as well as pretty, with a bonus caged yard area for dogs, complete with outdoor shower tap providing warm water to wash the countryside off your four-legged friends, and there's likely to be a lot of it as this is a prime dog walking countryside location. Nestled within these glorious grounds are two attractive detached stone barns that offer potential. The larger of this delightful duo has been partly converted on the first floor to create a cute dwelling consisting of a kitchen lounge, bedroom and shower room that leads directly into a well-used games room that is home to a full-size billiards table and football table. It's not surprising to discover that it is a very popular place for socialising and is currently well-used by the younger generation when they return to the family home for a visit. The ground floor is currently unconverted, home to four stables, three storerooms and a double garage. Both barns offer the potential to be converted into further accommodation, subject to planning consent, and could even become a source of income if transformed into holiday lets, because who wouldn't want to come and stay at this tranquil property, surrounded by views to mesmerise and gorgeous countryside, yet so close to the capital. Nearby there are also twenty acres of pastureland and eight acres of woodland available by separate negotiation.
