HISTORY

This property is located in Murbach on the foothills of the Vosges mountains, next to the “Grand Ballon” (the highest peak of the Vosges) crossed by the “Route des Crêtes”.
Its name, Schæferhof, translates its original use: the sheepfold of the famous abbey of Murbach, one of the four most important of the Holy Roman Empire during Middle Age. It is a massive rectangular construction 32 meters long and 16 meters wide which would have taken over from an older medieval construction.
We can date this construction from the years 1690/1700, like the buildings at the entrance to the old abbey which bear the dates of 1693 and 1698.
