Trulli Gemma is a holiday home located in Puglia, within the Itria Valley area (a UNESCO World Heritage site). The entire property extends over two adjacent agricultural plots of about 2 hectares, with olive and almond groves, as well as ornamental plants, hedges, and shrubs. The residential part consists of a group of trulli and a lamia: the main building, a typical construction of the area made up of 7 cones and additional rooms, and the dependance, a separate but adjacent building. The trulli can accommodate 4 adults plus 1 child. The main entrance opens into the living room with a decorative fireplace, sofa, and armchairs. In the right alcove (small cone) there is a dining table with chairs, while the left alcove houses the kitchen. From the living room, an opening leads to two double bedrooms: The Master Suite, with a central alcove featuring a king-size bed, bathroom with shower, and side alcoves, one of which serves as a walk-in wardrobe with a single bed. The Black and White Room, with a queen-size bed and bathroom with shower. All double bedrooms have independent access to the outdoors. The Dependance can accommodate 3 adults. It features a covered veranda, kitchen, a bedroom with a king-size bed, a bedroom with a French bed, and a bathroom with shower. Attached to the trulli is a covered veranda with a large dining table, a wood stove, a wood oven, and the main kitchen, equipped with fridge/freezer, 4-burner gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, wood oven, and various utensils. The property is completed by a swimming pool, a counter with sink and washing machine, an outdoor shower, a covered gazebo, and a play area with boules and table tennis. Altogether, the two housing units can accommodate 7 adults (in 3 double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and 1 bedroom with a French bed) plus 1 child (in a single bedroom). Masseria Velarosa is a white stone farmhouse standing proudly on the ridge with views across the olive trees to the sea. This estate was built using traditional techniques and local materials. Its modern architecture is influenced by the masserie (farmhouses) of the past. Set upon five hectares of olive groves with trees up to 500 years old, this masseria is an enclave of pared-down relaxation and rural simplicity. The masseria is situated in the heart of the Puglia countryside with views of Ostuni, only three kilometres away, and the sea. Gorgeous beaches like Torre Guacetto are a short distance, as are historic towns, such as Cisternino, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Lecce, and Polignano al Mare. The masseria was designed with extreme care towards the environment and sustainability. The one-meter thick walls with eco-friendly insulation moderate the temperatures such that very little air-conditioning is required, even on the hottest days, while very little heating is necessary in the winter. The living space - with its cross-ventilation windows - needs no air-conditioning at all. Solar panels provide sufficient electricity and heat for the entire structure, and the water supply is sourced from the organic farm within the estate. What's more, all the materials used in the construction were locally sourced (indeed, all stones were recycled from the land during the excavation of the building). Finally, all food and beverages are either grown on the property or sourced locally through local artisans, farmers, and producers. As in a traditional farmhouse, the estate is set around the central courtyard: the salon and veranda with their views of the sea, the staircase to the roof terrace, and the six bedrooms on either side, half with private gardens and the other half with private terraces looking out across the fields. Vaulted ceilings and stone floors help to keep the interiors of the masseria cool even on the hottest days. The communal spaces encourage the kinship of community while providing many intimate nooks for moments of simple solitude, both inside and out, including the living room, the veranda with its outdoor barbeque, the spa and gym, and the large pool. This modern yet traditional farmhouse can welcome up to 12 guests (with additional sleeping space for children). The home provides six bedrooms. Each bedroom is outfitted with king-sized beds and luxury linens, with a natural yet sophisticated living aesthetic and includes a private bathroom. This contemporary farmhouse represents the amalgamation of modern, minimalist architecture with the historical and pastoral architecture characteristic of the region: a modern day farm grounded in history.
