Pedro Il. He belonged to the Order of Friars Minor. The Church was opened for worship in 1696.Due to the earthquake of 1755, the Municipality of Setúbal started to function in the Convento de Brancanes. During the French invasions, the convent was occupied by Napoleon's troops, who transformed it into a military hospital, violating several graves, to steal what was of value in them.In 1811, the rebuilding of the Church of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, of the third of S. Francisco, desecrated and destroyed by the French soldiers in March 1808, on May 10, 1812 begins to be exercised again in the churchIn 1910, on the night of the 4th to the 5th of October, the Convent was set on fire. From that year onwards, it housed military units, initiating a process of transformation/adaptation to new functions, throughout the 20th century, which did not respect the nature of the property. From 1981, the Health Service Battalion (B.S.S.) occupied the former premises of the extinct Costa Artillery regiment, in the former Seminary for Franciscan Missionaries of N.ª Senhora dos Anjos, former Convent of Brancanes. It also served as a Brancanes Prison (1998-2005), in November 1998, the property was deactivated from its previous military functions, for reassignment to the Ministry of Justice. In 2007 it was acquired by the current owners. The convent building has a rectangular plan, consisting of two long longitudinal wings and three transversal rooms, which form two identical squares, with central cloisters. It has a space that occupies half of one of the longitudinal wings, next to the first cloister where the church dedicated to Nossa Senhora dos Anjos used to be. On the ground floor there were three round-arched porticoes that opened onto an atrium that was transformed into a chapel when the Convent was occupied by the extinct Health Service Battalion (BSS) of Setúbal, from 1981. To the left of this space is The entrance to the building is located, where blue and white tile panels are preserved, representing the daily occupations of the friars. In July 2008, the project for the rehabilitation and transformation of the Convento de Brancanes into a space for hotel equipment was submitted for prior approval.
