Farmhouse Muriwai (New Zealand)

Written by Matthew Chapman, Owner Back in 2012, I typed 'cliff house' into a web browser. Up came Parihoa Farm in New Zealand, for sale through New Zealand Sotheby's International Realty, with what I now call the 'House of Parihoa' as the centrepiece. As it did then, and now in 2024, this iconic house, created by New Zealand architect Andrew Patterson, still blows me away. I am selling it as part of my transition and will miss it tremendously. Available on its own, surrounded by 25.7 acres of land, or as part of the separate Parihoa Farm listing (which includes Tabletop Farm, House of Parihoa and Tirikohua Point Farm). The black fortress of the House of Parihoa sticks to the land like an alien spaceship that has landed. It is unbelievable from all angles, primarily since it is not domesticated with gardens or structures. It is often surrounded by sheep that stray from our neighbouring Tabletop Farm. Completed in 2008, the House of Parihoa has four large bedrooms with ocean views, two with en-suites and two share a Juliet bathroom. The summer living room is 'wow' and captures the ocean and sunsets in full glory. It has a winter living room with peaceful farm views. The centre courtyard has a pool and spa, protected from the elements. In 2022, we added the Jewel Box. It is the size of seven car spaces and has been a space for music, fitness and creativity amongst my friends. The Jewel Box has heated floors, electric blinds, an incredible sound system, and wine cellar with space for 500 bottles underneath. If more space was needed, a wellbeing pavilion could be added in the top corner of the 25.7 acres of the property. Planting would ensure access to the neighbouring Tabletop Farm does not infringe on your privacy if it was sold separately. Alternatively, buy this farm too! The House of Parihoa defined my life from 2013-23. I now seek my successor to look after this extraordinary piece of architecture. Price range: NZ$20-30M www.parihoa.com www.parihoafarm.com

Farmhouse Muriwai (New Zealand)

Written by Matthew Chapman, Owner In 2021, I purchased the 128-acre Tirikohua Point Farm - 'TP Farm'. At the time, I owned the neighbouring two properties: the 25.7 acre House of Parihoa and 554 acre Tabletop Farm. Adding TP Farm to this collection gave 728 acres of West Coast seaside properties, known as Parihoa Farm. As I simplify my life, all three properties are offered for sale, separately or as a whole. TP Farm sits high on cliffs looking over the Tasman Sea and captures the heavenly sunsets of the West Coast that constantly make your jaw drop. The views across Muriwai Beach are exquisite, underrated, and world-class, with Auckland a 40-minute car ride away. It's crowned with a beautiful country-style homestead, which we have renovated, and the already exquisite gardens have been transformed by adding extra features. In 2022, we added a world-class wellbeing pavilion with accommodation for guests. Of greatest enjoyment has been the addition of our mesmerising glass 'star-gazing cabin'. The farmland has beautiful contours, including high plains, low valleys and wetlands. The land lends itself to exploration, glamping and also, of course, farming. According to our Farm Manager, it can hold 200 sheep, 30 cattle, or a combination of both! TP lends itself to private or commercial activities or a mixture of both. Our guests all attest to it being somewhere they have had that inflection point on life, which speaks for itself. Acclaimed New Zealand architect Fearon Hay has done a concept plan for a signature house of the standard of my neighbouring home, the House of Parihoa. This home would incorporate stunning rural views with protection from the weather elements. If I were keeping TP Farm, I could see the next decade's potential. With discipline and imagination, it could rival the wow of my two neighbouring properties. Moreover, that is the beauty of TP Farm - enjoy as is or drive forth with your ultimate vision. www.parihoa.com www.parihoafarm.com
