Just a stone’s throw from the beaches on the Cotentin peninsula, a 16th century manor house and its outbuildings.
3 hours from Paris by road or train, 5 km from the town of Haye-du-Puits and its shops, set in French bocage countryside just 3 km from the seaside.
A short drive, off a little secondary road, leads to this manor house on its plot of land where, once through the gates, a group of 16th century buildings, set out around two adjoining courtyards, comes into view. A manor house spanning more than 250 m², a garage, an old, unconverted outbuilding and a small chapel, dubbed the Huguenots’ Chapel, form the first U-shaped courtyard whilst, separated by a hedge, another three old buildings, with some recently renovated sections, are laid out around the second courtyard to create function and living areas, spanning almost 1,000 m². The latter buildings are constructed on the north side, bordering the secondary road, for ease of access, and facing south over two hectares of land, with a garden, a river, a lake and a small pleasant islet. A garden faces south with a river, a lake and a small islet.
The large, luxurious manor houseThis manor house, characteristic of the region, is constructed from limestone and granite, with slate gable roofs.
On the ground floor, light floods into the reception rooms from dawn to dusk via a through entrance hall opening on to the garden as well as via the kitchen windows overlooking the courtyard and the garden.
A main, renovated stairway, made of white marble, goes up to floors given over to bedrooms. A garden is laid out on the south side.
Ground floor
The main door, set in the middle of the building, opens directly on to the stairway leading to the bedrooms on the first floor. Two adjoining rooms, each with doors and/or windows opening on both sides of the house. These precede a room providing access to the cellar and to another stairway going up to the first floor. Three adjoining rooms: the first in use as a lounge with a large stone fireplace, the second is an old kitchen and the third provides storage space. The large outbuilding, on the right-hand side of the facade, is used as a garage and a workshop, whilst that on the left-hand side, comprising the old chapel, is not currently in use.
First floor
A corridor provides access, on one side, to three bedrooms: the first with a bathroom and toilet, the second with a shower room without toilet and the third without bathroom. On the other side are four adjoining bedrooms, three of which have their own shower room and toilet. A partitioned area behind these rooms could easily be opened and used to make these rooms independent of one another.
Reception building
The function buildings are laid out in a U-shape around a courtyard, separated from the main house and its outbuildings by a hedge. The first, spanning a ground surface area of approx. 250 m², comprises a 120 m² function room, a cloakroom, bathroom and toilet facilities, a reception area as well as a boiler room, a cold room and a storage room. Two rooms, respectively spanning 110 and 75 m² on the first floor of this building, are already converted and awaiting finishing touches. The second building, set at right angles, has a ground floor awaiting conversion. Its first floor, however, reached via outside stairways, has been converted into 3 open-plan flats, each with 5 bedrooms. Although the conversion is not complete, works on the carcass are well advanced.
The south-facing garden, spanning a surface area of approx. 1 ha, comprises a small lake with a little islet, reached via a footbridge. Crossed by a small river, it has been planted with miscellaneous species. It looks out over the grasslands, with no constructions to obscure the view.
