MillRémalard (61)

An old mill, outbuilding and carefully tended garden in the countryside in the heart of the Perche region. The small country road that follows the course of the river in an open valley leads to the property situated slightly below, which is accessible by a tarmac road. Once through the tall wrought-iron gate supported by two ashlar pillars, a gravelled driveway bordered by lawns leads to the old mill. Built in the 17th century, it has two storeys, one of which is under the roof. The walls are rubble stone, rendered with lime and the roof over the stone cornices is covered with local flat tiles. Stone dormers with arched openings on both sides of the roof provide plenty of light. The corner quoins and door and window surrounds are white ashlar. Facing south-east/north-west, the house is flanked on two sides by small terraces providing views of the river and countryside.
The outbuilding is set at right-angles to the garden. It is also stone, limewashed and topped with a gable roof covered with local tiles. All around, set in unspoilt surroundings, the grounds feature pastures bordered by hedges and the nearby river spanned by a small bridge leading to the other part of the garden.
