It is believed that the origin of the cult in the Chapel of the Lord of the Stone may have originated in an ancient pagan cult, of a naturalistic character, of the pre-Christian peoples, whose deities were venerated in full nature, having later been converted to Christianity. The pilgrimage to Senhor da Pedra is one of the most traditional in both Vila Nova de Gaia and the parish of Gulpilhares. It is held annually on the beaches of Senhor da Pedra, on the Sunday of the Holy Trinity, and lasts until the following Tuesday. Its characteristics It presents hexagonal plan.
