Two houses with unobstructed views over fields and the sea, just 15 minutes’ walk from the beach, in one of the most beautiful hanging valleys along the Alabâtre Coast.
The French capital, reached via the A13 and A15 motorways, is 180 km away.
13 km away from Dieppe, a port town made famous by William-Turner, with its ferries heading to England and all the amenities expected of a large town, including an SNCF train station. The village in which this property stands has a grocery, a bakery, a butchery and other local shops.
A little footpath leads to a small beach some 2.5 km away, making it a 30-minute walk from the property.
The site is furthermore under the protection of Natura 2000, and consequently all construction is forbidden.
This property, set between sea and countryside, is in a “village of light”, one of the most beautiful hanging valleys along the Albâtre coast, which seduced numerous painters, musicians and poets (William-Turner, Claude-Monnet, Camille-Saint-Saens, Paul-Valéry to cite but a few), into making it their last home. Hence the large numbers of tourists passing through.
The cliffs, part of a project to have the village classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, provide access to hanging valleys, each one stranger than the last. These valleys lead to small, cosy pebble beaches.
These two houses stand at right angles to one another, giving views over the fields with the sea in the distance.
The first houseBrick and flint were obvious choices for the facades of the two houses, with their tile roofs featuring skylights and roof dormers. Wide windows in sliding frames blur the boundaries between the inside and the outside. The house, spanning approx. 170 m² over two levels, is completely laid out in a contemporary style; “space and light” having been used as its keywords.
The main room, once a tithe barn, has a cathedral-style ceiling, its exposed roofing framework going up to a height of almost 7 m.
A bedroom, a shower room, a large living room and a kitchen, all with openings on either side, have unobstructed views over fields and the sea on one side and direct access to a pastoral garden, bordered by a paved terrace, on the other.
Floors are covered with resin, tile or parquet flooring.
All the walls are rendered with lime and sand or with lime and hemp.
Ground floor
Residents have a superb prospective in the hall area which provides access to all the rooms on this level. The open-plan living room has a ceiling almost 7 m high. The presence of a bedroom, with its shower room, on the ground floor is an asset for elderly or disabled people. A wood-burning stove can be used to heat the house as soon as the outside temperature begins to drop.
First floor
The layout of the rooms on this level is almost identical to that on the ground floor. The wooden floors are painted.The second houseAlthough the construction of this house is identical to that of the first, its interior layout is completely different. The vast living room on the ground floor as well as the upstairs bedroom also open via wide windows on to unobstructed views.
Four bedrooms, two bath or shower rooms and an open-plan kitchen adjoining a large living room span a total of approx. 200 m² laid out over the two levels of the building.
Floors are covered with tile, resin or parquet flooring.
