A family house with a 300m² floor area and a sweeping sea view in wooded grounds covering more than 2,000m² in the city of Toulon. The house was built in 1954 and extended in 1963. It is south-facing and it looks out at the sea from a high position in one of Toulon’s most beautiful locations. Between the house and the sea, the view only takes in the natural surroundings. So the backdrop is unspoilt and it will remain so as the coast here is protected: no further construction is permitted. The house has a ground floor and a first floor. It was built in an L shape with two wings of unequal length that form an obtuse angle. At the point where they meet, there is a small, raised rectangular section crowned with a hipped roof. Most of the house’s roof is gabled. It is covered with barrel tiles and underlined with a double-row génoise cornice. Several chimney stacks rise up from the roof. The elevations are coated with white rendering. This white tone brings out the dwelling’s colourful touches: the terracotta red of its roof tiles and the pure green of its louvred shutters. The ground-floor section of the facade protrudes slightly in relation to the first floor. This protruding section is capped with a single row of barrel tiles. The ground floor leads out through five arched French windows with wooden frames and small panes onto a gravelled area that runs around the house. These French windows allow for seamless movement between the interior and exterior. On the first floor, the windows are also large, but square. The driveway for cars is on the property’s east side. Here there is a garage with a roof terrace. The structure is immersed in greenery and offers a sea view. In fact, several cars can be parked here – a rare privilege in this part of Toulon. Typically Mediterranean vegetation abounds all around the house on the terraced grounds. These shrubs and trees are characteristic of the rocky headland of Cap Brun. They ensure absolute privacy for the dwelling, giving it protective greenery all year round and welcome shade from the sun. The nearby sea also offers coolness in the summer.
