Castle Naxos (Greece)

Introducing a rare opportunity to own a piece of history in the heart of Naxos's Old Town. This magnificent mansion, steeped in centuries of heritage, offers a chance to craft your very own slice of Venetian-inspired luxury. The Old Town of Naxos, nestled within the historic Kastro, was originally constructed in the 13th century by Marco Sanudo, the first Duke of Naxos. Today, the Kastro retains its charm, with echoes of its glorious past scattered throughout. The mansion stands as a testament to this rich history, and it comes with a unique promise: the opportunity to convert it into a comfortable 5-suite estate. One of the remarkable aspects of this renovation project is the potential for subsidies, which could cover up to 70% of the construction costs. This is an exceptional benefit that makes restoring this historical asset not only a rewarding endeavor but also a financially wise one. As you explore the Kastro, you'll be greeted by remnants of ancient Venetian houses, schools, and other architectural marvels that have withstood the test of time. Notably, the mansion, situated at the north entry of the Kastro, is a cherished jewel. The mansion is part of a protected and classified complex that dates back over 800 years. From the balcony, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the port of Naxos and the iconic Portara. From the balcony, you can savor a breathtaking view of the port of Naxos and the iconic Portara. This is not just a property; it's a piece of Naxos's soul, it embodies an essential aspect of Naxos's cultural heritage. Acquiring this mansion presents a unique opportunity, as such historical mansions rarely become available on the market

Castle Uzès (30)

A listed Renaissance chateau surrounding a wooded courtyard in the heart of a market town to the north of Uzès. Standing in the north-western part of the village, the chateau backs onto the town hall and the medieval wall that is still in place. Dating back to 1567, the edifice overlooks a courtyard and features two wings at right angles, facing south and east. The facades and the roof have been listed as French historic monuments since 1990. In the 20th century, the two Renaissance facades, then still in a state of disrepair, were extensively restored. They are adorned with decorative carvings whose scrolls contrast with the austerity of the remaining surrounding fortifications, including the base of a medieval keep dating back to the 12th century. Between the 13th and 14th centuries, the La Fare family built a fortified house at the foot of the keep, which was transformed into a residential chateau in the 15th century. Burnt down during the Wars of Religion, which were particularly devastating in these Huguenot lands, the house was rebuilt in its current form “jusque a la mesme aulteur que cy devant estoyt” (to the same height as before). At the time, the highly elaborate facades featured six cross windows framed by carvings in the form of Doric, Ionic and Corinthian pilasters. They have now been restored to their original noble appearance thanks to two restoration campaigns undertaken in the 20th century, which remain to be completed. Once again destroyed by fire in the 18th century, the south wing remained in ruins until the 1950s, when the building envelope was completely rebuilt. When the La Fare family decided to join the Court of Versailles a few years before the Revolution, the remaining part of the building passed into the hands of the neighbour, Scipio de Nicolaï, owner of the other chateau in the village. He precipitated the ruin of his new acquisition, not without a certain degree of gloating. It was the family of the current inhabitants who saved the La Fare chateau after acquiring it in 1919. From then on, the chateau was put to all sorts of uses, in turn housing the village brass band, catechism classes and later a wigmaker, who kept powder and curling irons on the premises. As a result of these varied uses, the interior has been fashioned in a way that is quite surprising compared to the appearance of its facades, creating a cheerful structural disorder.

Castle Manosque (04)

A unique, centuries-old chateau and its terraced garden on the edge of a typical Provence village set in a regional nature park. A raised driveway bordered by hedges leads from the village to the estate. A wide wrought iron gate, framed by two masonry pilasters and topped by an interlaced decorative motif, marks the entrance to the property. The terrace in the upper part of the estate reveals a succession of buildings and the long eastern facade, as well magnificent views towards the valley in the distance. The scent of boxwood and roses wafts across the landscape, while the sound of trickling water can be heard in the moat below. Built in the 17th century and enlarged in the 18th century following the main stylistic principles of classical Provence architecture, the building was extensively altered in the 19th century with the addition of a corner tower and an aviary, giving it its current castle-like appearance. The various parts of the edifice, which have survived the centuries, thus present a unique appearance, somewhere between a bastide (Provence farmhouse) and a chateau. The complex comprises four different sections. Three of them have juxtaposed east-facing elevations with regular, symmetrical windows, while the fourth is set back behind its stone-paved courtyard and blue-painted wrought-iron gate and railings. The western facades have fewer and more discreet windows than the other elevations and are all aligned along a little-used village street to the rear of the buildings. The different materials used for the facades and roofs - coursed rubble masonry, brick, slate and terracotta - reflect the construction periods of the various buildings and extensions. The buildings are bordered by several terraced garden areas, benefiting from a water source in the village that is reputed to be inexhaustible. The upper level, at the foot of the château, comprises a rose garden with its pond to the south, a terrace with its water fountain and an impressive chestnut tree in the centre and, to the north, a formal French-style garden with its parterre of pruned box and a series of eleven vaulted ponds, fed by the spring and releasing the overflow of water at the bottom of the estate. A large field at the bottom of the estate provides a distant view of the valley overlooked by the chateau.

Castle Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone (34)

EXCLUSIVELY you will be able to discover this atypical property in the heart of a wine village 15 minutes from MONTPELLIER and 5 minutes from the beaches. A castle in the heart of the village dating from the 12th century, renovated in the 18th century as evidenced by the superb door that reveals a spiral staircase leading through the central tower of 4 meters in diameter, to the 2 floors up to the solarium, which leaves us spellbound by the view of the Gardiole massif to the sea. We overlook the village church with its bell tower from the 12th century. The plot measures 1350 m². The owner fell in love with the place from the first visit, and for decades his family has been able to marvel at the 600 m² of renovated living space. All the rooms are spacious and benefit from very high ceilings. The reception area of 80 m² is enhanced by a mezzanine that leads to the bedrooms on the upper floor, and the ground floor space already accommodates 3 bedrooms, an office, a library vestibule, and 2 bathrooms. An independent apartment with 2 additional bedrooms and personal access completes the property. Attic, vaulted cellars with bread oven, attic spaces, turrets with dovecotes, well, and century-old fig trees plunge us into the history of this magical place. The property offers beautiful possibilities for personal or professional use. The castle has been maintained, the roof has been redone, the joinery is made of aluminum, and the tiles in the reception rooms have been preserved. Period fireplace and cast-iron radiator. Some refreshing is of course to be expected, with the possibility of converting an additional 150 m² on the top floor. A guesthouse project seems ideal in this location with parking, garage, and pool in a quiet area without overlooking, in the heart of the village. File available upon request. This description has been automatically translated from French.
