In Cateau-Cambrésis, a 17th century property, consisting of a townhouse, business spaces and 7 flats.
In the town centre of Cateau-Cambrésis, a stone's throw from the Saint-Martin church with its bell tower and the General De Gaulle square overlooked by the belfry, the property benefits from the proximity of public services and food shops. You can get around town on foot or by bike. On the outskirts of the town, the Avesnois regional nature park forms a landscape of forests and pasturelands with a very rich biodiversity, which explains why it is part of the pan-European ecological network. Europe is close: Lille is 1h10 away, Brussels 2h, Paris 2h30, Cologne 3h30 and Luxembourg 3h20.
This former 17th century coaching inn, remodelled in the 19th century, can be easily spotted with its long brick and stone façade. An arched carriage entrance, still featuring its guard stones, serves as the main entrance to the large paved courtyard and its garden. Around the courtyard are interior spaces on the ground floor awaiting a new use. At the rear, a double door can provide access for larger vehicles. On the upper floors, flats for rent will offer rental income to the future buyer. The complex is in excellent condition. This is indeed a property with a lot of potential in the centre of Cateau-Cambrésis.
The townhouseBuilt in traditional brick, it has three levels, one of which is under the roof. The roof is slate with Jacobean dormers. The length of the façade with seven bays is striking at first glance. This feeling is accentuated by the five dressed stone lines that punctuate the elevation: four that run along the top and bottom of the windows and a fifth line along the cornice supporting the roof. The other striking element is the majestic carriage entrance with a double oak door and its small wicket gate. The consolidating iron fittings and the rounded, arched shape are undoubtedly period features. Finally, the French windows, the wrought iron shutters and the entrance door with a cast iron window protection, representing a majestic Renaissance prince, lend a touch of elegance to the property. The facade at the back has the same architectural style with one difference: the presence of a circular iron and glass conservatory which adds a touch of fantasy.
Ground floor
Beyond the door, a hall with black tile flooring serves the entire ground level. When entering, the straight staircase is the first feature that attracts attention. The solid wooden steps and a cast iron starting post with a stylised floral decor topped by a fire pot are indications of the presence of inhabitants of high social standing. On the walls of the hall, above the trompe l'oeil marble panelling, an 18th century panoramic landscape comes to life and, along the staircase, grisaille representations of antique sculptures. To the left of the entrance, a large office with a straight parquet floor and a black marble fireplace with two columns exudes a studious atmosphere. From here, a door opens to the outside. On the other side of the hall, a sitting room with an adjoining dining room represent a large dual-aspect space, bathed in light, with a view on the garden and the street. The atmosphere here is warm, with wide oak floorboards, impressive beams, painted panelling and an intriguing 1950s-style fireplace. From the dining room, a passage leads to the fully equipped kitchen and the conservatory, which could be used as a small drawing room or as an everyday dining room.
First floor
A landing, also decorated with trompe-l'œil paintings and, as on the ground floor, with high ceilings, serves four bedrooms. The entire level features parquet floors and wallpaper. Two bathrooms complete this level.
Cellar
Seventeenth-century vaulted rooms, all in old brick, provide reception areas, in particular a dining room for …
