Castle Tours (37)

ref 4225: attractive property for sale in the Loire valley. 20km north of Tours nestled into the countryside in a quiet and private location this property has excellent access to autoroutes, TGV stations and Tours airport. Local shops and restaurants a short 5 minute drive away with the rest of the famous Loire Valley on your doorstep, should you be tempted to leave the haven of this hidden gem. The chateau, covering approximately 750sqm of living space is well proportioned over its 3 floors with twin staircases and a lift. It has a natural flow and is easy to circulate and practical to live in. The ground floor has a choice of 2 formal entrance halls (as well as numerous secondary doors); the north side is into a part glazed corridor with tiled mosaic floor and wood panelling linking the two towers and provides access to each of the south side rooms, the south side formal entrance hall is on the east edge of the south terrace permitting the main lounges to benefit from the central views over the fountain and down to the tree lined south entrance gate. The current owner has created a modern fully equipped kitchen (often lacking in period homes) in the former office and laundry (now converted into one room), as well as keeping the original kitchen as a secondary preparation room for those banquet events. Both have direct access to the breakfast/BBQ east side terrace. The dining hall is double aspect with period straight cut parquet flooring and marble fireplace. The two lounges (one a former music room) interconnect, with herringbone parquet flooring, one with a marble fireplace and both having direct access to the south side terrace. The third lounge, again with herringbone parquet, features an impressive floor to ceiling fireplace and is double aspect with views to the south and west over the park. The office/drawing room with marble fireplace, wood panelling and straight cut parquet is located opposite the lift in the short corridor leading to the “Bistro” (former “billiards” room), a double aspect room with patterned tiled floor currently used for light dining and cocktails by the owners and their guests. The first floor originally consisted of 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, today the owner has lightly modified the usage of a couple of the rooms to suit their lifestyle with one of the bathrooms now being used as a library (the plumbing is still in place and accessible to revert back if required by the new owners) with marble fireplace, modern parquet flooring and a raised reading area (former platform for the bathtub). All of the rooms are well appointed and can be/or are currently either used as master bedrooms suites, dressing rooms, study or TV rooms. The second floor, accessible by either staircase and the lift, homes 3 individual bedrooms and two large suites. There are 2 good sized attic rooms and a smaller one, ideal for storage or extra space as required. This property has extensive outbuildings which offer a vast number of possibilities; from guest lodges, guardian’s accommodation, workshops, games rooms, garaging, fitness studio, spas, art studio, etc. etc. The current owner has installed a sizeable mezzanine area above one of the garages housing a kitchenette, soft seating, dining area, etc. etc. ideal for that “entertainment lifestyle” that this property lends itself so well to. Within the grounds are various “kiosques” an original wind powered pump for water, numerous storage buildings along with hangars and caves. With over 36 acres of private enclosed grounds and the château set well within, this private location permits the owners to indulge and enjoy the wooded paths, paddocks alongside the small river, lawn areas, fountains and ponds on the property. There is a substantial pool and tennis court (due to their lack of usage by the current owners these do require some work before being able to enjoy them again). The original curved greenhouse and vegetable patch are ready and waiting for the new owners to put back into operation, depending upon requirements. Cabinet LE NAIL – Touraine - Loire Valley – M. The facades are of exposed tuffeau limestone, and the windows have dressed tuffeau surrounds. The roofs have flat tiles, with the exception of the barn, which is covered in slate. Castle Tours (37)

A 12th century castle, remodelled in the 19th century, with 25 ha in the heart of the Loir Valley countryside, north of Tours. This estate is in a wild, wooded setting, with a view over the surrounding countryside. It is reached via two driveways, one reserved for visitors and the other for tradespeople. The first is a long avenue, with woods and meadows on either side. It is barred halfway along by gates, flanked by tall pillars, and is dotted with old streetlamps, lighting the way to the entrance courtyard in front of the castle, with the keep looking on. It precedes the old chapel, the top section of which is now converted into a bedroom, followed by a house that could be used as a caretaker’s cottage and, lastly, the castle. Driveways lead from the entrance courtyard to the rear where there are carparks and meadows, delimited by hedges. A pathway gives access to the south-facing, swimming pool area, surrounded by safety fencing and partially enclosed by old walls. A driveway goes down on the west side to the outbuildings, comprising an annexe house and its small outbuildings, a 350 m² building, with an area given over to physical well-being on the ground floor, a barn and its workshop, a building housing five horse loose boxes and a tack room, and another building that could take cars, although it is currently fitted with six horse loose boxes. Meadows beyond the outbuildings could accommodate horses. Woods border the property.

House Tours (37)

A keep and a watchtower, vestiges of 13th century fortifications, in the centre of Blois. The keep, currently standing between houses and gardens, can be reached via a small, raised, public esplanade. A private plot, spanning just under 0.02 ha, could be converted into a parking area. The watchtower, no doubt a former bastion given its square shape and its height of less than 12 metres, is set about a hundred metres away from the keep. It is partially embedded in a contemporary construction. The tower predominantly stands on the shoulder of the road.

House Tours (37)

A unique and surprising 19th-century edifice with almost two hectares of grounds, just outside Tours. The history of this property is closely tied to the history of the Mame family, which left its mark on the city of Tours for around two centuries. Alfred Mame, the grandson of a printing works founder, became the director of the famous printing works Mame in 1845. He had a modern vision for his firm, both in factory design and labour relations, with the creation of a special housing estate for his workers: the Cité Mame. This modern vision ensured his success. As a botany-lover, Alfred Mame bought this estate in 1841 and extended it considerably from 1857 onwards. At the time, French landscape gardening was changing radically. Mame entrusted the landscape gardener Eugène Bühler with the task of transforming the estate. Bühler was known for having designed the Parc du Thabor in the city of Rennes. The project involved creating greenhouses, building caretaker homes and outhouses and embellishing the grounds. The pavilions and stable were completed in 1869. From the road that runs alongside the grounds and woods, you can enter the property via two entrances. A wrought-iron gate with volutes leads onto a driveway that runs across the grounds. And a second gate, framed between two pillars of brick and tuffeau stone, leads into a parking area and to two outbuildings used as a garage, a storeroom and a workshop. A drive winds around the edifice to the central court and its lawn, beyond a few steps. A terrace beneath a glass canopy roof runs alongside the building up to its main entrance. The edifice is shaped like a horseshoe and is perfectly symmetrical. It faces west. It has a central pavilion framed between two curved wings, each with their own pavilion at their end. Its elevations are made of exposed red brick and tuffeau stone. Its rear elevations are rendered. The window and door surrounds are made of red brickwork that alternates with tuffeau stone. A tuffeau cornice runs above them. Finely crafted timber braces support and bring out the remarkable slate roof. Opposite the edifice, the grounds slope gently downwards among majestic trees and lush lawns.

House Tours (37)

A 15th century house surrounded by its gardens, courtyard and meadow, in a village less than half an hour from Tours. The north gable of the house backs onto the protecting hillside, while the south side enjoys the sun from dawn to dusk. Situated in a prominent position in the heart of the village, the property affords stunning views. It is to the south and east that the view stretches furthest, across the gardens, the rooftops of the village and out over the valley. A courtyard and two lush gardens border the building on all three sides, creating a skilful visual and olfactory interplay. Vehicle access is via the street leading up to the vineyards and across the courtyard. This recently paved courtyard also provides access to the former stables and the three troglodyte caves. A second pedestrian entrance leads to one of the two gardens. Close to the house and on the hillside, a brick flight of steps leads up to a small terraced kitchen garden, from where a path of round wood slices climbs up to the meadow, which was once planted with vines.
