An elegant, 19th century chateau and its outbuildings amidst 4 ha of parklands, 30 km from Tours.
In the Centre-Val-de-Loire region, just under 3 hours from Paris via the A10 motorway and 30 minutes from Tours and its TGV train station, with 55-minute links to the French capital. This estate is in a quiet, countrified setting, just a short distance from several small towns, with shops and amenities.
A long, tree-lined driveway leads to the entrance to the estate. Flanked by impressive stone pillars, wrought iron entrance gates open on to a wide lawn, dominated by a majestic cedar tree in front of the chateau and a wooded section crossed by pathways. This house stands in the midst of parklands, partially enclosed by high walls. The converted outbuildings are spread out on either side and behind the chateau. A swimming pool, set in the middle of a garden on a slightly lower level, is near to the outbuildings. Chalets, at the end of the parklands, stand facing the surrounding countryside. In another section, the parklands are sometimes open on to the horizon and sometimes divided by hedges, boxwood and tall trees. Two other secondary entrances also provide access to different parts of the estate.
The chateauThis rectangular chateau, spanning three levels on granite lower sections, was built of rendered stone masonry in 1882. The main facades feature five symmetrical bays. Two main entrances, preceded by a porch and a flight of wide, granite steps, are set in an imitation central projection. The window surrounds and facing, the crowning cornices and the quoins are made of freestone. Its Mansard style roof, covered with slate, features five roof dormers with triangular pediments and wrought jambs.
Ground floor
The entrance hall, with its terrazzo flooring, provides access, on one side, to a lounge, enhanced with strip pattern parquet flooring and a dark grey marble fireplace. And, on the other, to a dining room, with strip pattern parquet flooring. The walls in these three rooms are embellished with panelling as well as ceiling roses, cornices and moulding. Straight on, double doors open into a secondary entrance hall, housing a monumental, oak wood stairway, with baluster railings, and a lateral corridor. The floor is covered with terrazzo flooring. It leads to a kitchen, a back stairway, a hall area, with a toilet, and a study. A few steps go down in the stairwell to double doors forming a second entrance.
First floor
The landing provides access to a study, with an enamelled cast-iron, wood-burning stove and strip pattern parquet flooring, and to an adjoining bedroom, decorated with a marble fireplace and strip pattern parquet flooring. A bathroom, with a toilet, completes this section. On the other side, a corridor leads to two bedrooms, with shower rooms and toilets. Both rooms are enhanced with fireplaces.
Second floor
The second floor is reached via a continuation of the back stairway. A central corridor provides access to five bedrooms, three of which have marble fireplaces. A last room is in use as a billiard room. Floors are carpeted. All the rooms are illuminated via large roof dormers.
Reached via the back stairway, the ceilings on this level are sloping. The rooms are illuminated via pediment roof dormers and hinged skylights. A central corridor, with a toilet, gives access to four bedrooms, with wash-hand basins, a bedroom, with a shower room and toilet, and a bedroom, with a bathroom and toilet. Floors are carpeted.
Base level
This semi-underground basement can be reached from the outside via a lateral stairway. Inside, the back stairway also goes down to this vast level, spanning almost 150 m². A long, central corridor provides access to the old kitchens, a room, with a shower and a toilet, and a semi-professional cold room. Two vast wine …
