A renovated, 1850’s house, typical of the Brie region, in wooded, lush parklands.
60 km from Paris in the French department of Seine-et-Marne, 30 km from Tournan-en-Brie via the N4; 25 minutes from an RER train station with links to Paris; on a bus route to Provins (18 km), a medieval town classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. All shops, a hospital and a clinic as well as state and private schools.
In an attractive, unspoilt, very quiet village.
This property, enclosed by walls and fencing, is reached via a quiet street. Its double entrance gates open on to parklands, planted with deciduous and evergreen magnolia, maple, blue cedar and silver lime trees and enhanced with flowering shrubs, rare species and fruit trees (plum, cherry, apple and hazelnut). This dwelling, spanning three levels built over a vaulted cellar, is extended by a veranda which could, but does not actually communicate with the rest of the house. Said veranda is currently used as a function room. A second veranda, on the facade facing the parklands and communicating with the house, is used as a conservatory-artist’s studio.
Terracotta-tiled terraces border the entire periphery of the house.
A 9x5 m swimming pool has been added to the parklands side.
In addition to the function room, the outbuildings include:
- a workshop with a woodshed,
- a 4-car garage,
- a very small house, spanning approx. 25 m², awaiting renovation throughout.
The houseA rectangular building, spanning three levels, topped with a recently redone roof, covered with local, flat tiles.
Its facades feature exposed, local stone.
A first veranda protrudes from the building on the parklands side. A second, bigger veranda adjoins one of the gable walls.
Ground floor
An entrance hall, with a toilet, leads all on a level to a bedroom, with a view over the garden and the swimming pool. The floor is laid with parquet flooring and the walls lined with cork. A vast, bright, double, L-shaped living room, including lounge and dining room areas, has beech parquet flooring throughout. A monumental fireplace, in good working order, faces three French windows, all opening on to the garden. An open-plan, fitted kitchen extends the dining room area and opens on the other side, separated by open half-timbering, into a small, cosier, family eating area, featuring exposed brick walls and beech parquet flooring. A conservatory in use as an artist’s studio, following on from the eating area, has exposed brick walls. A utility room (heat pump, swimming pool filtration system) and a laundry room. Another main room, intentionally kept separate from the rest of the house, completes the ground floor. This is a very bright veranda, much bigger than the first, which is used for entertaining purposes and protects the privacy of the dwelling. This space is therefore self-contained and its monumental fireplace, with its hearth, makes it possible to roast large pieces of meat. The floor is covered with terracotta tiles.
First floor
A stairway goes up to a lounge-study on a mezzanine, enhanced with numerous cupboards. It is followed by a corridor, lined with Douglas firwood panelling. A bedroom, with an exposed roofing framework, a third bedroom and a bathroom, with a shower and two wash-hand basins. Numerous windows let in copious amounts of light and provide views over the parklands and the swimming pool. A toilet. Part of the main suite, which spans two levels, a tiled shower room with a window. A room in use as a study-ladies’ sitting room, with a little spiral stairway going up to the second floor.
Second floor
The stairway goes to a second mezzanine, this is not a room but a gallery which leads to a fourth bedroom with a sloping ceiling. A large skylight illuminates this room with its many cupboards. The last and fifth bedroom is that of the …
