Villa with pool and terrace Uzès (30)

In the countryside 10 minutes from Uzès and 5 minutes from shops, this beautiful bright villa of 183 m2 was built in 2008 favoring natural materials free of pollutants: wood, hemp, cyclopean foundations with ventilation... Entirely on one level (without any internal steps), it is arranged around a large living room with cathedral ceiling, opening onto a covered terrace then onto the south-facing garden. This room extends on the one hand towards the kitchen and its pantry, and on the other hand towards a cozy TV lounge with insert fireplace. The central artery of the house, a corridor serves three bedrooms, 2 of which have access to the garden, and one with a private bathroom. A second shower room, a dressing room and 2 toilets complete the private space. Mezzanines in the living room and bedrooms provide additional storage space. With an independent entrance (but communicating from the inside), an office for liberal professionals includes a waiting room, toilets, a professional room of 21 m2, a storage room and an attic. The 1100 m2 wooded garden has a garden shed and an above-ground swimming pool.

Castle Uzès (30)

In the enchanted land of Perrault's tales, it is not unusual to come across cats in boots, sleeping princesses, little ducks who think they are very ugly or princesses who can't stand peas... but also charming manor houses and their hosts in such a magical environment, amid exceptional landscapes - a cultural and historical interlude of the most seductive kind. A true cradle of life, the spring here gushes through vales and valleys all the way to the emblematic Pont du Gard, once supplying the Roman city of Nîmes with drinking water. A unique place in a rural setting, shaded by huge plane and poplar trees, in striking contrast with the surrounding natural bushland. To complete the setting, we must tell you about the dream-like stroll that you can indulge in in the shade and coolness of the pool's coping stones or by the old wheat mill... just to the antechamber of the first Duchy of France, the remarkable medieval town of Uzès. Built in this bucolic setting in the 16th century on more than ten hectares, this residence, flanked by two overhanging turrets, now offers approx. 300m² of living space with remarkable features such as a cross vaulted living room, French ceilings, wooden parquetry and period fireplaces. Not forgetting a non-adjoining outbuilding of approx. 200 m², in need of renovation, and a dovecote overlooking a second pool, four hundred years old and ISMH listed. This property emanates the sensation, the feeling, the conviction that the French art of living is still a reality that crosses borders. It has been part of the heritage of the same family for almost one hundred and fifty years and the acquisition of such an architectural work can only be governed by emotion! ref 2388

House with pool and terrace Uzès (30)

This superb, recently built, light-filled stone farmhouse that fits in well with the architecture of the surrounding area, is comfortably set in a luxury, secure estate that is itself highly sought-after, as it is located just a stone's throw from the centre of Uzès. Built over two levels and facing south, this traditional farmhouse features a beautiful heated saltwater swimming pool (10 x 3.5m), secured by a roller cover and surrounded by two terraces (totalling 57 m²), one of which is covered. The roof structure of this second terrace area is a particularly noteworthy feature. The grounds are dotted with Mediterranean plantings, including beautiful century-old olive trees, and they have been redesigned by the current owners with the aim of optimising the surface area by, among other things, creating a vegetable garden. Inside the house, there is a vast living area including the kitchen (fitted with ZUG appliances, the very latest in innovation), the living room and the sitting room, which open directly onto the outside area with the swimming pool. A highly practical scullery and a storeroom with outside access complete the first part of the ground floor. The second part of the ground floor, with no upper floor and an access from the entrance hall, features a dressing room, a large bedroom facing the pool and a beautifully-designed bathroom, and a separate toilet. A wide staircase leads to the first floor, where there are two bedrooms with fitted wardrobes and views of the Mt. Ventoux. A bathroom and separate toilet completes this first level. Finally, there is a 27m² garage with a sizeable storage area under the ceiling, which also houses the pool equipment. There are also two parking spaces as well as a private parking space in front of the garden gate. The top-of-the-range presentation, together with the peace and quiet and the proximity of the centre of Uzès within walking distance (7 minutes), make this property an exceptional opportunity not to be missed, as there are very few properties of this type available for sale. Information on the risks to which this property is exposed is available on the Géorisques website. Agency fees are to be paid by the vendor. Farmhouse Uzès (30)

A 17th century farmhouse in the heart of the Gard Garrigues, a precious testimony to centuries of pastoral life. The various buildings, with their thick limestone walls, are part of a series of edifices that were erected starting in the 17th century. They surround a courtyard, a space which links and protects the different farm activities. Called a 'barn' in the 18th century, this agricultural building consisted of a single structure to the north and an elevation at right angles to the east. Today, only four massive stone pillars remain, distributed around the courtyard. The development of the other two wings still standing today had to wait until the 19th century, when the cultivation of mulberry trees - of which fine specimens remain in the park - developed. At that time, silkworm breeding was at its peak, until a devastating epidemic, pepper disease, ravaged most of the farms in the Gard. The architectural style of the eastern wing presents all the typical characteristics of a silkworm farm: a long, narrow and tall building, two storeys high, with small regular openings and a gable roof, with a chimney for the ventilation and heating necessary for the growth of the 'Magnans” (greedy silkworms). The second wing on the western side was built for the staff who were required to live on the premises. The windows, which are larger in size, receive generous sunlight from the west. From the windows facing the sunset, the view encompasses the surrounding garrigue shrublands as well as the flock of sheep from the neighbouring village that regularly graze nearby. To the north, the building has remained in its original state with, on the lower level, solid cross vaults which sheltered the animals under the hayloft above. The courtyard facades are entirely lime-rendered and those visible from the outside - with the exception of the east wing - show bonded rubble limestone. The gable roofs are clad with monk-and-nun tiles.

House Uzès (30)

In the French department of Gard, the listed Carthusian monastery of Valbonne and its growing estate founded in 1204. Taking up a small, 43 ha valley which constitutes its forest and vineyard, the Carthusian monastery of Valbonne is a vast property complex, the buildings of which are essentially grouped around 2 courtyards and 2 cloisters in accordance with their original purpose. Founded in 1203 but partially rebuilt and redesigned in the 17th century following the damage caused by the French Wars of Religion, modified and completed in line with its successive uses, the appearance of the monastery nevertheless still resembles its original contours. It was classified as a French historic monument in 1959 and 1974. Although its initial vocation as a place of worship and spirituality is now over, the farm estate has, however, been developed predominantly as a vineyard. At the same time, it is open to the general public for visits and is also part of a hotel and catering activity. History The occupation of what was until then a small, anonymous valley in the heart of a dense forest over one thousand years old began in the 11th century with the construction of a convent for Benedictine nuns. Our-Lady-of-Bondilhon, built in a forest and isolated, became unsafe and was abandoned at the end of the 12th century, having been occupied by the nuns for two centuries. The Bishop of Uzès of the time, Guilhem-de-Vénéjan, worrying about the Cathar heresy spreading amongst the estates belonging to the Count of Toulouse, appealed to the order of Carthusian monks and gave them permission to construct a new monastery in place of the deserted convent. The Order’s 41st house was thus founded on 10 February 1204. Having reclaimed and cleared the land, ten or so monks set up home there. This marshy valley, made fertile through the Carthusian monks’ work, then became “vallis bona” or Valbonne. Conflicts with the neighbouring priory of Saint-Pierre-de-Saint-Saturnin-du-Port in a first instance, followed by looting during the One Hundred Years War and, above all, devastation caused by the Wars of Religion did not spare the new Carthusian monastery. In 1585, it was destroyed, looted and burnt. Monks, sent from the head monastery, began rebuilding it as of 1593. The reconstruction of the Great Cloister and the Entrance Gateway was also started at this time. A new church was then built between 1770 and 1780. The French Revolution in 1789 put an end to the expansion of this community of Carthusian monks. The last father left Valbonne on 1 October 1790. Having become national property and deconsecrated as well as looted once again, Valbonne’s Carthusian monastery then fell into ruin. On 28 January 1836, Carthusian monks bought back the monastery. Restored and completed with new buildings, a community of monks following the Rule of Saint Bruno lived there until 1901. The abandoned building was once again bought at auction in 1926 by Pastor-Philadelphe-Delord who then founded a protestant association for helping victims of tropical diseases there; the ASVMT still owns the monastery.
