A fortified watermill with a 12th-century tower, nestled in the River Tolzac valley in France’s Lot-et-Garonne department. From the road, the edifice’s gable end can be seen emerging ever so slightly from the thick vegetation around it. At first glance, you see an intriguing mix of structures made of pointed rubble stone and brick with many windows, beneath roofs of monk-and-nun tiling. The river flows through two stone arches that support the watermill from underneath. Behind, a square tower crowned with a pyramidal roof of flat tiles overlooks the whole complex. Lawns surround the buildings and edge the steep-banked river. At the back, an iron footbridge crosses the stream and leads to a meadow that stretches north-west beyond leafy trees. Further upstream on the grounds, two brooks join to form one, flow in a loop, and turn the water wheel. On the other side, in front of a grove, a swimming pool lies beside the annexe. A few metres from there, a garden shed stands near a vegetable patch. The property covers over 1.2 hectares in total.
