Manor Nantes (44)

A sixteenth-century mansion, remodelled in the nineteenth century, waiting to be restored in grounds that cover two hectares beside the River Erdre. A track leads up to the mansion from a small local road. It goes past a line of former service outhouses that used to belong to the property. A gate fitted in a round-arch stone passage forms an impressive entrance that takes you into a vast front court with a lawn in the middle. On one side stands the mansion. On the other side stands a warden’s lodge and a long building of annexes that includes a garage and storerooms. The gently sloping grounds cover about two hectares and extend around the mansion and behind it, dotted with trees that are over a hundred years old. These grounds lead down to the River Erdre where they offer private access to the water via a stone quay. The property cannot be seen from the river.

Property Nantes (44)

A splendid eighteenth-century mansion near Nantes, nestled in a beautiful landscaped garden that covers over a hectare and includes a pond and outhouses. The edifice is an emblematic example of the town’s architectural heritage. It bears witness to the rich history – and anecdotes – of this delightful area south of the majestic River Loire. The property can be considered one of the famous bijou mansions that dot the countryside around Nantes. These homes were built for the pleasure of high society during the upper middle classes’ golden age: the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The house is set back from a secondary road. It stands behind a remote-controlled metal gate that is flanked by two tall square pillars of dressed stone. The outdoor entrance area is divided into two distinct sections. An initial closed court reserved for parking includes a broad asphalt driveway, lawns, and lines of evergreen oaks and crape myrtles. A second, gravelled court is fenced off with wrought-iron railings and gates. It leads straight up to the house’s entrance door. This main courtyard faces north. It is bordered with the edifice’s principal section, which dates back to 1789 and offers 500m² of living space. Two wings extend it at right angles. They contain living spaces and areas for relaxation that cover around 600m². On the south side, trees dot a landscaped garden. Some of these trees are over a hundred years old. A path edges the eastern side of the grounds and leads to a group of outhouses. A kennel, a tunnel greenhouse, and a walled, fenced-off pond complete this marvellous 12,600m² property surrounded by walls.

Manor Nantes (44)

A 19th-century hilltop manor house, with 6 hectares of woodlands and meadows, 25 km from Nantes. Just a few hundred metres from the village, an unpaved track winds its way up through fields and hedgerows to reach this prominent property, immersed in the heart of unspoilt nature. Overlooking the Loire Valley, the estate extends over around 6 hectares of woodland and meadows. There are two separate blocks of outbuildings: a dovecote, a henhouse, a rabbit hutch and former latrines. A driveway surrounds the manor house, which has a total floor area of roughly 250 m² and features a variety of architectural styles. The driveway also leads to the former gardener's house, built in the 'Clissonnais' style, which has been converted into an independent dwelling with a generous floor area of almost 120 m². Beautifully constructed, the complex now requires renovation work to bring it up to standard and modernise the interiors.

Manor Nantes (44)

A cosy 18th-century house with an old farm complex and over a hectare of grounds near the River Erdre and Nantes, France. A white Norman-style fence runs alongside a quiet road on both sides of an electric gate: the property’s entrance. Beyond this gate lies a grassy court separated by walls and two pillars covered with Virginia creeper. This court forms a transitional area leading from the road to the buildings. It takes you into the main courtyard, which enclosed by the outbuildings, an old farm complex and the house. Around the sides and rear of the buildings, vast grounds extend, dotted with age-old trees. These extensive grounds cover more than a hectare. A bridle path runs around the edge of them, marking the boundary with the neighbouring property. The buildings and grounds once formed a farm complex belonging to a nearby chateau that towers on the bank of the River Erdre. The chateau’s historical estate was carved up: today’s property was born of this division. The main dwelling is rectangular with a central section extended on both sides with two wings in the same style. The central section is built of rubble stone rendered with a coating of Loire sand. It has a ground floor, a first floor and a second floor in the roof space. The wings are single-storey sections. The windows in the facade are set in tuffeau-stone surrounds with segmental arch tops. They are arranged asymmetrically. Their timber frames recall old mullioned windows. The hipped slate roof has a dormer on each side. Two chimney stacks rise up from it. One of the wings houses a reception space and looks out at the lush grounds through broad picture windows. The other wing houses a space dedicated to the swimming pool. A complex of old farm buildings around the courtyard flanks the house on both sides. These structures are made of rubble schist and crowned with slate roofs. They form a comprehensive collection of buildings: a barn, garages, workshops, storerooms and open-sided shelters.

House Nantes (44)

An 18th century mansion on the edge of Nantes, set in 1 3 hectares of wooded, walled grounds. Set along a street linking the town centre to the ring road, the property is hidden in a large park of centuries-old trees, behind a high perimeter wall of coursed rubble masonry. Two brick and tuffeau masonry pillars topped by a bronze vase support a wide wrought iron gate, the only access to the property. Just beyond the entrance, a granite Breton cross keeps watch over the residence. Once through the gate, a tarmac driveway passes through a thicket and finally leads along a large lawn on one side to the house.

House Nantes (44)

A magnificent property with its own private garden, near the castle in the historic centre of Ancenis. The building is located on one of the most beautiful squares in the historic centre of Ancenis. At the foot of the covered market, just a few hundred metres from the castle and the banks of the River Loire, it overlooks a small square where a market is held several times a week. It is complemented by a vast walled garden and two garages that open onto the street to the back. There is also a pedestrian gate. The building was constructed in around 1850 as a private mansion for the use of a single occupant and their staff. It was subsequently converted into an apartment block, made up of four flats, two of which are still occupied. The whole property is in need of restoration. Rectangular in shape, it has three storeys and four rows of windows. It has a basement level covering the entire surface area, a raised ground floor, a first floor and an attic floor. It is built on a granite base, with an ashlar facade enhanced by a tufa stone bossage. The Mansard-style roof, covered in pebbled slate, features dormer windows, the central two of which are rusticated and topped with a broken pediment with interior scrolls. The first floor has a long balcony and the French windows are surmounted by mascarons or acanthus leaf brackets. The windows are all fitted with metal or wooden shutters and protected by wrought iron railings. The basement has cellars with an earthen floor. The ground floor has two self-contained flats. Each has its own entrance at either end of the building. There is just one flat on the first floor. The second floor has a flat and attic.

Manor Nantes (44)

A remarkably restored Belle Époque villa and its guest houses on the banks of the Loire, halfway between Nantes and Ancenis. The first gate opens from the street onto a hedge-lined driveway, which leads to a second gate framed by two dry-stone pillars. The grounds unfold from here, featuring on one side a vast, deep garage, a shelter and a workshop, as well as two guest houses created in the former stables. At the back, the sober rear facade of the villa completes the view of the upper part of the grounds. The sloping parkland surrounds the residence on both sides. It features a swimming pool with pool house and a large terrace in front of the elevation facing the Loire, before descending down to the perimeter wall. Below the terrace, two rows of centuries-old trees frame an elegant expanse of lawn. Finally, a gate in the perimeter wall provides access to the street leading to the station. This country residence was built for an industrialist from Nantes in 1899. It comprises a rectangular main building preceded by two semi-octagonal turrets linked by a central bay at the front, on the Loire side, which seem to form a projecting decorative structure. The two-storey villa is almost entirely built of tuffeau limestone on a granite base. The rear section has a four-pitched slate roof. Each of the turrets has a pavilion roof and the central bay, which features a protective Virgin Mary statue in a recess on the facade, is topped by a triangular pediment towering the rear roof. On either side of the central section, two single-storey wings replicate the semi-octagonal shape of the turrets, adding stability and balance to the overall appearance. The decorative window surrounds are of tuffeau limestone. The stone balustrades on the piano nobile were filled in during a previous restoration. The two octagonal roofs of the turrets are supported by a corbelling with large moulded dentils. The two adjoining guest houses, which come into view just after passing through the entrance gate, have been converted into independent gîtes. They are of rendered schist masonry with brickwork and topped by slate gable roofs. Each house has its own little garden, bordered by a vertically slatted chestnut fence.
