The property still features the original one-room schoolhouse constructed by Peter Jefferson for the education of the Randolph and Jefferson children. To ensure its continuing preservation in perpetuity, the home and its undisturbed, expansive grounds are protected by conservation and historic easements donated to Virginia's Board of Historic Resources and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Designated a National Historic Landmark, Tuckahoe survives today as a remarkably intact example of early American architecture, land use, and history.
