Perched on a wooded ridge just east of downtown Washington, this rare property is a piece of Missouri history you can actually live in. The main residence is an authentic 1830s log home, with hand-hewn timbers carefully moved from their original site, reassembled, and fully restored as part of La Charrette Historic Village, named for the frontier settlement Lewis and Clark noted as the last outpost on their journey west. Inside, nearly 4,000 square feet of living space blends period craftsmanship with modern comfort: exposed logs, vaulted ceilings, historic millwork and stained glass, all anchored by massive stone fireplaces. The main house offers four bedrooms, two full baths and two half baths, with a walk-out lower level that extends the living space. Step out onto the wrap-around porch, and the view does the rest: sweeping, year-round vistas of the Missouri River framed by mature oaks, with flagstone patios below for evenings under the trees. Beyond the main home, the detached garage includes a private guest suite with its own bedroom and full bath, ideal for extended family, visiting friends, or a caretaker. A historic log church and a second small log cabin round out the settlement, each ready to become a guest retreat with added bath facilities. Four miles from the shops, restaurants, and riverfront of downtown Washington and about 45 minutes from St. Louis, this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, whether you’re looking for a full-time residence or a weekend escape with a view you’ll never tire of.
