Built in 1922 by John Runnacles and his wife, Jane Walford, who named it Reydon in honor of their hometown in eastern England, this iconic property stands as a testament to the strong presence of the British community in the region.
During the 1940s, the success of the venture led to an expansion that added a new wing and additional rooms for guests. Over time, Reydon also took on a unique role: for nearly 20 years, it operated as an English girls’ school, educating hundreds of students from the region.
Since its founding, Reydon has never ceased to be in operation. In 1989, after the school moved to another building, the property returned to its former use as a hotel. Roy and Sheila Pearson managed it for several years, and it was subsequently run by a couple whose surname was Potter.
