The house was then colloquially known as the Monk’s House. Later, a horse trader from Vught built a coach house and stables next door. In 1924, the house was named Marie José after the Schutte family who lived there at the time. In 1955, the name changed to Withof.Petrus R. Martens opened a hotel-café-restaurant there on February 28, 1955. Withof became famous for its half chickens, which were served in unlimited amounts—up to 800 per week. On November 19, 1997, the restaurant closed its doors.
