luxury architect house for sale Maryborough, Australia

More a European 19th-century mansion than a traditional Queenslander, Baddow House is an 1883 Queensland Heritage Register–listed Georgian-style private residence in rendered triple-brick construction, set on almost two acres of established riverfront grounds. With approximately 910 sqm under roof, five-metre ceilings, multiple formal and informal living rooms, five bedrooms and six fireplaces, it offers an irreplaceable combination of legacy and lifestyle as a family home, with future income potential, operating as a tourism/wedding venue and at a purchase price that is unfathomable compared with Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra. Commissioned by Maryborough pioneer Edgar Thomas Aldridge and designed without compromise by English-trained architect Willoughby Powell, Baddow House sits high above the Mary River adjacent to the original town site. It is regarded as the Fraser Coast's most significant 19th-century residence. Wide verandahs, regionally sourced cypress ash and hoop pine floors, solid red cedar ceiling-to-floor interior doors, and finely restored decorative detail frame well-proportioned drawing rooms, a country kitchen, a library, an office, and a separate garden studio, creating a country manor equally at ease as a distinguished family residence or as the foundation for curated hospitality. Neighboured by 74 acres of Crown heritage-listed parklands, Baddow House feels like it exists in a world of its own. Gated grounds with curated gardens, brick paths, vined arbours, a canal-water-lily pond, jacarandas, poincianas, and rolling lawns provide an elegant setting for weddings, retreats, and boutique accommodation (STCA), drawing on Maryborough's heritage tourism credentials and the wider Fraser Coast visitor market. Restored to its former grandeur, Baddow House is recognised as one of Queensland's most important heritage-listed residences and celebrated as an authentic heritage home with historic dynasty provenance and commercial potential. Since the turn of the 21st century, Baddow House has had only two custodians and now awaits its third.
