Castle Centre Est - Uzès (30)
Situated in the heart of a charming village between Uzès and Nîmes, with easy access to the region's main attractions, stands this majestic château, a witness to history since its creation in the 13th century. The ancient moat, battlements and watchtowers evoke its past as a defensive edifice, while in the 17th century it was enlarged to welcome visits from illustrious personalities such as Louis XIII and Richelieu, in preparation for the Peace of Alais. The latest major alterations date from the 20th century, preserving this regional and French landmark through the ages, listed as a historic monument. The château, with a living area of around 1,000 m2 (10,765 sq ft), faces south and extends over 7,800 m2 (83,960 sq ft) of parkland. Several distinct areas blend harmoniously together: on the château side, alleys lined with plane trees; on the other, unspoilt, organic garrigue-like countryside with holm oaks, separated by an impeccably tended garden complete with a swimming pool and a maze. The château extends over three levels, organized around a monumental staircase illuminated by magnificent mullioned windows. A rounded tower adds character to the architecture on the south-east side. On the first floor, the entrance hall offers a glimpse of the majestic central staircase. Every room on this level has access to the garden, offering a wealth of possibilities. A first vaulted kitchen opens onto an outdoor space ideal for al fresco dining. A large bedroom adorned with vaulted ceilings, moldings and cement tiles seduces with its charm. A second bedroom is nestled in the tower. A room currently used as an artist's studio could be converted into a bedroom. A final bedroom, with bathroom, could be used as an independent apartment. The wine cellar is also on this level. The ascent to the second floor invites contemplation, with its light-filled windows offering a breathtaking view of the park. A gallery, perfectly suited to displaying works of art, leads to one of the key rooms of the house: the dining room, with its 3.30 m (10.8 ft) high vaulted ceiling, designed to support the grain which, in the old days, was stored on the upper floor. A large, bright kitchen adjoins this room. Four bedrooms are also located on this level, as well as a game/cinema room.Opposite the dining room is a spacious living room of over 50 m2 (540 sq ft), with a high coffered wooden ceiling and a fireplace adorned with a carved wooden overmantel. A library with marble fireplace, wooden floors and ceilings invites you to relax. The master bedroom features a harmonious blend of antique and modern elements, with a glass-enclosed bathroom overlooking the room. The top floor offers great potential for development, with the possibility of creating at least five bedrooms and a bathroom. To the east of the château, an independent 80 m2 (861 sq ft) building, used as a creative space, houses a bedroom with en-suite shower room, located above a garage. All the electrical, plumbing and heating systems have been redone. All in all, this property offers a rare opportunity to inscribe one's name in the history of the region and the country, while benefiting from an exceptional setting. Castle Uzès (30)
In the enchanted land of Perrault's tales, it is not unusual to come across cats in boots, sleeping princesses, little ducks who think they are very ugly or princesses who can't stand peas... but also charming manor houses and their hosts in such a magical environment, amid exceptional landscapes - a cultural and historical interlude of the most seductive kind. A true cradle of life, the spring here gushes through vales and valleys all the way to the emblematic Pont du Gard, once supplying the Roman city of Nîmes with drinking water. A unique place in a rural setting, shaded by huge plane and poplar trees, in striking contrast with the surrounding natural bushland. To complete the setting, we must tell you about the dream-like stroll that you can indulge in in the shade and coolness of the pool's coping stones or by the old wheat mill... just to the antechamber of the first Duchy of France, the remarkable medieval town of Uzès. Built in this bucolic setting in the 16th century on more than ten hectares, this residence, flanked by two overhanging turrets, now offers approx. 300m² of living space with remarkable features such as a cross vaulted living room, French ceilings, wooden parquetry and period fireplaces. Not forgetting a non-adjoining outbuilding of approx. 200 m², in need of renovation, and a dovecote overlooking a second pool, four hundred years old and ISMH listed. This property emanates the sensation, the feeling, the conviction that the French art of living is still a reality that crosses borders. It has been part of the heritage of the same family for almost one hundred and fifty years and the acquisition of such an architectural work can only be governed by emotion! ref 2388

Castle Uzès (30)
A listed Renaissance chateau surrounding a wooded courtyard in the heart of a market town to the north of Uzès. Standing in the north-western part of the village, the chateau backs onto the town hall and the medieval wall that is still in place. Dating back to 1567, the edifice overlooks a courtyard and features two wings at right angles, facing south and east. The facades and the roof have been listed as French historic monuments since 1990. In the 20th century, the two Renaissance facades, then still in a state of disrepair, were extensively restored. They are adorned with decorative carvings whose scrolls contrast with the austerity of the remaining surrounding fortifications, including the base of a medieval keep dating back to the 12th century. Between the 13th and 14th centuries, the La Fare family built a fortified house at the foot of the keep, which was transformed into a residential chateau in the 15th century. Burnt down during the Wars of Religion, which were particularly devastating in these Huguenot lands, the house was rebuilt in its current form “jusque a la mesme aulteur que cy devant estoyt” (to the same height as before). At the time, the highly elaborate facades featured six cross windows framed by carvings in the form of Doric, Ionic and Corinthian pilasters. They have now been restored to their original noble appearance thanks to two restoration campaigns undertaken in the 20th century, which remain to be completed. Once again destroyed by fire in the 18th century, the south wing remained in ruins until the 1950s, when the building envelope was completely rebuilt. When the La Fare family decided to join the Court of Versailles a few years before the Revolution, the remaining part of the building passed into the hands of the neighbour, Scipio de Nicolaï, owner of the other chateau in the village. He precipitated the ruin of his new acquisition, not without a certain degree of gloating. It was the family of the current inhabitants who saved the La Fare chateau after acquiring it in 1919. From then on, the chateau was put to all sorts of uses, in turn housing the village brass band, catechism classes and later a wigmaker, who kept powder and curling irons on the premises. As a result of these varied uses, the interior has been fashioned in a way that is quite surprising compared to the appearance of its facades, creating a cheerful structural disorder.
