House Chaumont-en-Vexin (60)
1 hour from Paris, a picturesque village house with its Art Nouveau style wall paintings. In the centre of the village, just a stone's throw from a monumental 12th century church, stands a house of coursed rubble masonry and brick with a wrought iron gate at the side opening into a small garden. At the back, the outbuildings conceal a passageway that leads to a large, hidden garden. A small annexe completes the property. Originally, this was probably a modest farm transformed into a holiday house at the end of the 19th century. Today, the country house is metamorphosed by its Art Nouveau murals, probably painted around 1900 and 1920, following the publication of an album around 1911. These paintings are mostly surrounded by trompe l'oeil murals which are closer in style to Art Deco.
